You're fighting a lucky cat statueYou saw these things all over Chinatown -- grinning white cats with gold coins on their collars, one paw raised to welcome money or customers or good fortune or all three. It took me ages to figure out that the gesture I knew as a farewell was meant as a beckoning here.
This particular cat was much larger than usual, and judging by the pointed fangs and hellish orange glow in its eyes, what it was beckoning me for wasn't going to be anything I'd consider "lucky".
