You decide that now is a good time for another nap. What exactly are you doing that makes you so sleepy, anyways?
You are awakened in the middle of the nap to see three figures standing over you. Well -- two are standing, one seems to be kind of hovering. All three are dressed in black robes, but you see that one's an average-looking white guy, one's some kind of golden spider duck, and the hovering one appears to be a squat crimson pig.
"Hey," the golden spider duck says. "Don't you think you've spent about enough time in the present? It's time for you to go back to the future!"
"Back to the future?" the squat crimson pig says. "s/he hasn't even been there yet! How can you go back?"
"Beck to the future?" the average-looking guy responds. "I don't know if that's where it's at."
"Anyway," the average-looking guy continues, "you've been in Crimbo right-about-now for quite a while. Why don't you try Crimbo in the not-too-distant future? If you want to rescue Uncle Crimbo, you'd better get on the ball."
"Some balls are held for charity," the golden spider duck chimes in.
"Do not taunt happy fun ball," the pig agrees.
So what you wanna do?
Move on to the Future |
The three figures fade into the dark. One says, "when you awake, you'll be able to visit THE FUTURE!" "INDUSTRY!" shouts another. "Science and technology!" "She blinded me with..."
Stay in Crimbo-right-about-now |
The three figures fade into the night, continually riffing on each other's comments, getting stranger and more esoteric as they disappear. The last thing you here is "we'll be back," in a bad Austrian accent.
Occurred in The Spooky Fright Factory or while resting at your campsite, but only after plate of franks and beans has been used.
Notes
- This adventure was available from December 7, 2006 to December 24, 2006.
- Selecting "Move on to the Future" replaces Crimbotown Right-About-Now's location in the Big Mountains with Crimbotown Not-Too-Distant-Future.
- Selecting "Stay in Crimbo-right-about-now" does not cost an adventure.
- If you select "Stay in Crimbo-right-about-now" this adventure will happen again after a while.
References
- This nightmare is one big reference to Mystery Science Theater 3000. The average-looking white guy is Mike Nelson (or original captive-in-space Joel Robinson), the squat crimson pig is Tom Servo, and the golden spider-duck is Crow T. Robot (in the "Horror of Party Beach" episode, Tom and Crow were refered to as a "squat crimson pig" and a "golden spider-duck", respectively). The adventure name comes from the MST3k Theme Song: "In the not-too-distant-future, next Sunday A.D..." The show involves free-association riffing on bad movies, hence all of the free-association remarks made throughout this nightmare.
- "Industry, science, and technology!" is a direct quote of one of Tom Servo's riffs from Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie.
- The line about not taunting Happy Fun Ball is a reference to a Saturday Night Live skit, where an advertisement for "Happy Fun Ball" was followed by a long and absurd disclaimer that included the warning "Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball."
- The phrase "Some balls are held for charity" is a quote from AC/DC's double-entendre-filled song "Big Balls" ("Some balls are held for charity, and some for fancy dress, but when they're held for pleasure, they're the balls that I like best..."). The same gag appears in the description of the Fancy dress ball.
- "Beck to the Future? I don't know if that's where it's at" refers to the song Where It's At by Beck.
- The "She blinded me with..." line from the "Move on to the Future" option is a reference to the Thomas Dolby song "She Blinded Me With Science".
- The line "we'll be back" from the "Stay in Crimbo-right-about-now" option is a reference to Arnold Schwarzenegger's line "I'll be back" from the movie The Terminator and many other subsequent movies.
- This is a reference to the film Back to the Future.
