Not a Micro Fish
You finally reach the end of the darkened side tunnel (though "end" isn't really a good word for it -- it opens up into a vast underwater chamber with dozens of other tunnels snaking out from it in all directions -- looks like whoever dug this mine uncovered some labyrinthine system of underwater caves) and look around.
To your horror, you see Grandpa, pinned beneath a rock, with the massive fish (remember the massive fish from earlier?) circling above him. Abruptly, the giant fish darts toward Grandpa -- obviously swimming in for the kill. He's too far away for you to do anything about it -- all you can do is look on, chewing your fingernails and gasping at all the appropriate moments.
Watch in horror |
- For Turtle Tamers
You watch in horror as the fish gets closer and closer to Grandpa. Just when it seems inevitable that he'll be torn limb from limb, Grandpa begins to chant -- a strange, low-pitched sound that reverberates through the chamber.
The fish pauses, confused by the resonant chanting. Echoes of the sound begin to pour back into the chamber from its myriad branching exits, and after a few seconds they are joined by a new sound -- the sound of something very large, swimming very fast.
In the blink of an eye, a massive sea turtle, bigger than anything you've ever seen (well, anything its size or smaller, at least) bursts out of one of the tunnels, bites the head off of the fish, and disappears as quickly as it appeared.
Grandpa wriggles free of the rocks and stands over the corpse of his fallen enemy, pulls out a knife, and guts the enormous fish. He roots around inside it and pulls out a newspaper, soaked in blood and fish goo.
"There we go," he says, wiping the slime off of his knife. "I can go home now."
"A newspaper?" you say, flabbergasted. "That's what you risked your life for?"
Grandpa shrugs. "I paid for that newspaper."
"Before you go home," you say, sheepishly, "could you... I mean... That was a pretty cool trick you did, there. Can I..."
He grins at you. "Sure, kid. I can teach you a thing or two." You spend the next couple of hours training, and then he heads back to the castle.
- For Seal Clubbers
You watch in horror as the fish gets closer and closer to Grandpa. Just when it seems inevitable that he'll be torn limb from limb, Grandpa grabs his cane, bends the end of it into a sharp hook, and hurls it at the fish with more force than you would've though his decrepit old frame could manage.
The fish looks surprised, but not for very long -- after a second or two, it just looks dead. Its body slowly drifts to the floor of the chamber.
