Pickelhaube
This is one of those helmets with a spike on top. The etymology of the word "pickelhaube" is fascinating. It comes from the gold miner slang term "Pickle Haver." During pioneer days, tradition dictated that you couldn't buy pickles -- you just had to stand in the street and hope a shopkeeper threw one to you. Pickle-loving guys got sick of having to pay constant attention, so they started wearing these hats so they could passively acquire pickles on the spike as they went about their business.
Jump forward 700 years, and now they're worn as a cultural identifier by guys who are really into motorcycles. Ironically, they don't want a pickle.
