Piping Cold

Piping Cold
Piping Cold

Amidst the frozen wastes of Exposure Esplanade, you encounter what appears to be some sort of water supply switching station. A labyrinth of pipes emerges from the floor and splits into myriad tributaries leading in every direction.

One particularly large, particularly frost-covered pipe catches your eye as it splits into three separate outflow pipes at about eye level. The first pipe is labeled "Burnbarrel Boiler Backfeed," and you note both the alliteration and a big valve wheel. The middle pipe says "PLD Shower Feed" and also sports a handsome oversized wheel. The third pipe, somewhat less helpfully, is labeled "Third Pipe." It doesn't have a valve wheel, but it does have a pretty hefty monkey wrench leaning up against it.

Turn the first valve

You turn the valve wheel, and there is a hiss as water starts flowing through the outflow pipe, presumably in the direction of Burnbarrel Blvd.

Turn the second valve

You turn the second valve wheel, and there is a hiss as water starts flowing through the outflow pipe. A few moments later, you hear distant shrieking followed by distant disappointed grumbling. Wonder what that was all about.

Go all CLUE on the third Pipe

If Burnbarrel Blvd. is at gif 8 or below:

You grab the wrench and break open the pipe. The wrench is knocked out of your hand by the ensuing torent of water, which was apparently under so much pressure that it reaches all the way to the ceiling.

Some of the water drips back down to the ground, but most of it freezes into a bunch of icicles before gravity has a chance to have its way with it.

If Burnbarrel Blvd. is at gif 9 or higher (does not cost an adventure):

You break open the pipe with the wrench, but nothing comes out. Stupid boring empty pipes. You wander off, looking for something more interesting to destroy.

Occurs at Exposure Esplanade.

Notes

  • Turning the first valve decreases the damage done by the special moves of hot hobos in Burnbarrel Blvd.
  • Turning the second valve makes it easier to get into the Club in The Purple Light District
  • When you successfully smash the third pipe to make more icicles (i.e. Burnbarrel Boulevard has not been too far advanced), it decreases the frequency of cold hobos crying out in pain and making an icicle from the ceiling fall on you. It also increases the damage done by the special moves of hot hobos in Burnbarrel Blvd.
