Soul Food
In the great struggle for Art that is the life of the Pretentious Artist, nourishing food can only be eaten once it has been thoroughly mixed and maimed with hard, unfeeling kitchen utensils. You see, it's a metaphor for how the artist must suffer to produce serious works of artistic significance. The phrase "you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs" is a proverb of almost unbearably beautiful wisdom for a true Artist.
Keep in mind, however, that breaking a few eggs is pointless if you don't have a spatula or something to flip the eggs with.
