Talk:Acronyms
- I see "ZOMG" a fair bit, but I don't know if the Z means there's an extra word in the acronym, or if it's just there. --fnord
It's really just a sarcastic version of OMG. --Veistran 11:22, 11 Nov 2005 (MST)
- Is it necessary to include non-KoL-specific acronyms, such as lol?
-Klemon
I think that we definitely should not include them. KoL tends to shun internet abbreviation such as "lol." See: The Altar of Literacy. I'm going to remove them now.
- Is WOMBAT really a commonly used acronym within the KoL community?? First I've ever heard of it. Admittedly, I don't interact much with the community... -- Old Ned 21:56, 3 June 2006 (CDT)
- Would it be useful to have redirect pages for each of these acronyms to their respective pages? For example have a page called AT redirect to the Accordion Thief page. I would think this would be useful for people coming to this page either looking for the meaning of an acronym, or for laziness when searching long things such as GPOAS. --Fryguy9 16:04, 8 June 2006 (CDT)
- SNIG (same name in game) is often used in the forums...
Discworldian 09:01, 25 June 2006 (CDT)
Should all of these be redirects?--Dehstil (t|c) 14:30, 3 July 2006 (CDT)
"Acronyms to Avoid?"
Is that section really necessary? This page seems like a reference for people wondering what the meanings of various acronyms, and the thing at the bottom telling them not to use certain ones seems kind of out-of-place. Maybe if that and this were merged into a "KoL Chat Traditions / Conventions" page, it would make sense there, but as part of this one, it just doesn't fit.--Hogulus 19:21, 25 September 2006 (CDT)
what about LAAAME? (i forget how many a's)
Unused Acronyms
There are many acronyms on this page that I have never seen used and would never use myself, some of them are: BWCM, DG, DHG, eRoS, ESBM, GBBB, ISEBB, KotBF, KSCM, LPU, MMT MMM, PDGG, RACM, SrM, TPBMC, TPTMBG, WOMBAT. There are many others that I have never used myself but I could see using at some point. That is just a list of the ones that I really think are never used. Do we maybe want to clean up this page a bit by removing some of the more pointless ones? Take for instance DHG: Dirty hobo gloves, how many times are you going to be talking about dirty hobo gloves at length? If nobody objects in the next few days, I'll remove the ones I've listed here. If you do in fact use any of these ever, go ahead and say so and they will be spared. Likewise, if there are any that I left off this list that you think are too infrequently used, say so as well. --CheezyBob 01:12, 23 October 2007 (CDT)
- I'd like to make a case for most of those. I've seen most of the somewhat reasonably priced item-related acronyms (LPUs, the chow meins, etc.) mentioned in /trade before. I've seen eRoS and KotBF in strategy/general mechanic discussions. And TPTMBG is really quite popular on the forums. --Ricket 05:35, 23 October 2007 (CDT)
What about adding a bit of organization to the page? Such as breaking it up into Familiars, Items and other stuff. --CheezyBob 12:50, 23 October 2007 (CDT)
Sections
I think adding sections maybe detracts from the dictionary-esque manner of this page. But I don't often look things up on this page. --Azeltir 03:36, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- If someone's looking up a specific acronym, they're probably going to text-search it in the browser anyway. If someone is browsing the page to check out acronyms for fun and profit, categories make it clearer. I think it's nice. - Msanychta 03:42, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- Frankly, I'm not convinced having two separate pages (one alpha, one by type) is such a hot idea. It's only going to double the amount of work. See the nightmare that is the weapon tables, or the innumerable pages where recipes are summarised. We have sortable tables if we really want types--just stick a type column on. --BagatelleT/C 03:03, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Eeh, the page isn't updated that often, judging by its history. An extra 2 minutes' work a couple times every other month isn't a big deal. - Msanychta 10:59, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
