Talk:Advertise for the Mysterious Island Arena
Alight, I've gotten the flyers, and hit all the following monsters, and killed them: everything in the oasis, arid desert, top pyramid chamber, middle pyramid chamber, hidden city, palindome, junkyard, the hole in the sky, and every worm in the organic orchard, including the queen.
All in frat boy gear, and nothing has changed. I've got no idea what the combined monster level is for all those (used no ML inceasers), but I would normally think it'd be enough. I'm a DB and used 2 eye pokes on the queen to make sure she wouldn't hit me much. Any thoughts? --Phoenixflames125 06:15, 31 July 2007 (CDT)
- Guy Made Of Bees, maybe? :P --MrAndersonMan 06:42, 31 July 2007 (CDT)
- Yeah, that's your best bet. I was originally planning on hitting the Astronomer with the flyers as I went for a star key, but I would need 56 Astronomers with the Mind-Control Device at 11. Bee Guy is probably the way to go, unless you have the means to boost ML by a great deal.--Dorf (t|c) 10:08, 31 July 2007 (CDT)
- Bees probably take around the same time as HiTS, but you don't get hit as much, and you can start prepping much earlier. I used it this run to level up quite a bit, and I had the GMOB ready right at the start of the quest.
- If it takes 10,000 ML, the HitS will take a minimum of 67 turns (10,000/150 = 66 2/3)with no ML at all. GMoB, the result of landing the same noncombat out of five noncombats in an area with 75% combat rate, should take ~100 turns. HitS is clearly the winner. --Maddsurgeon 17:32, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
Using a flyer multiple times on the same monster.
In my edit on 22:31, 8 August 2007 (CDT), I was trying to convey that a player can only put a flyer on a monster one time to count towards his goal, even if it's over multiple battles. For example, a player can put a flyer on a One Eyed Willie one time to count towards the 10,000 ML, but if he does it more than once (whether in the same battle or in a new battle), subsequent flyers on a One Eyed Willie will not count towards that goal. He would have to move on to a completely different type of monster, such as a Burrowing Bishop or a Portly Abominatin. Basically, any monster other than another One Eyed Willie.
The edit to my edit done on 00:47, 9 August 2007 (CDT) seems to be saying that (to follow my example) flyers place on a One Eyed Willie can count towards the goal multiple times, so long as it's a new encounter each time a flyer is placed. This is not my experience. My experience indicates that once a particular monster has a flyer placed on it, you cannot place another flyer on that same type of monster and have it count towards your goal.
I see the editor's point about "types of monsters" needing clarification, though.
I'm just putting this out there in case somebody wants to clear this up. --Shower Lad 16:50, 9 August 2007 (CDT)
Check out the talk page for Mysterious Island Arena. Somebody finished the quest in 54 combats in the Middle Chamber. Note that there are only 3 distinct monsters in the Middle Chamber.
Relatedly, it's sort of odd that we have two independent pages Mysterious Island Arena and Advertise for the Mysterious Island Arena, plus the Arena quest description in Mysterious Island Quest. Seems like this could use a cleanup. --PlatypusNinja 18:16, 9 August 2007 (CDT)
Oh, jeez. How embarrassing. I just now realized that only the first and last flyer distribution messages were working. That's why I thought I wasn't getting any credit.--Shower Lad 14:15, 10 August 2007 (CDT)
Yep, the frat side is bugged, and they either refuse to believe it or don't care, as I've reported it and I know many others have. the hippy version has a many-step gradiation, the frats have only 0% and 100% messages.
It was fixed last Monday on the Jick show. Also, two of the messages in the info page are the same (2nd and 4th) that true, or a typo? --Ashallond 22:41, 14 August 2007 (CDT)
Posters Question
If I got the posters as a Frat Boy, but then decided I wanted to complete the subquest as a Hippie, can I get the other set of posters once I've defeated enough Orcs? Thanks. Zidel333 14:42, 27 April 2008 (CDT)
Guy made of bees
Be careful with Ambidextrous Funkslinging.
It seems as if combat uses the items in order. So if your antique hand mirror is first, you get the pollen but no advertising. --Dessalvara 04:43, 25 May 2008 (CDT)
- it's really painful when it happens to you for the first time (and even more painful the second), but that's already noted on the guy made of bees page. --Evilkolbot 05:23, 25 May 2008 (CDT)
Regardless of order even. I just added it to the wiki, but I've been hit a few times by attacks even with Plot Holes listed first, and Flyers second. HaphazardJoy 04:43, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
The Annoy-o-Tron 5000, Detuned radio, or The Super-Secret Canadian Mind-Control Device
Confirmed that the Annoy-o-Tron 5000 counts toward this quest, as 200 Knob Goblins with the 5k set to 10 and no other ML modifiers was enough to get the second message, and less than 900 total were required to complete the quest --Cmlobue 05:17, 26 June 2008 (CDT)
Page acts weirdly under SafariBlock
Is there a reason why the quest page is blocked by SafariBlock? I have OS X 10.4.11, Safari 3.1.1, and SafariBlock 2.1. Anyone else have this problem? --Iratecat 19:37, 21 June 2008 (CDT)
- It's got the "Advertise" keyword in it. --Phelyan 06:13, 26 June 2008 (CDT)
Distribution Messages/Progress
Does anyone know at what point each message comes up? Would be helpful for gauging progress. --Space turtle 20:51, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
BIG
So, BIG shows us that flyers don't look at Monster Level so much as Monster Attack. Should this be clarified, or at least mentioned in the main page? --Lxndr (talk) 02:49, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
cyrus
- "a single flyer?" are you sure? wow, if it's six turns and not eight, that changes everything. --Evilkolbot (talk) 13:15, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- What are you asking? Yes, Cyrus-the-Virus is as good as Guy Made of Bees for arena advertising. But you need several memories of some delicious amino acids, I think it is three, and some non-comms. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 02:04, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
