Talk:Amazing Ideas

From A KoL Wiki

Do we have them all now? If there were any more I'm sure they would have come up by now. but how can we say for certain?--Tombot 09:55, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

There are 10 empty item IDs between the boxing-glove-in-a-box and the giant diamond ring. The skeleton key, fire flower, cob of corn, and armgun are now meat-pastable. There are at least 2 new effects coming from the hookah called On Pins and Needles and Eso Sí Que Es, and the former apparently will be available from a new dish from South of the Border, which may be made from a Marzipan Skull and Scrumptious Reagent (this recipe, by the way, can currently be attempted, but you get the message you get when you don't know a specific recipe). All this leads me to believe there are still undiscovered amazing ideas. They may be releasing them one per day, or there may be other requirements to get the missing ones. --Turing 13:13, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

I think there is probably just a very low chance of getting a recipe from the hot shower. --Starwed 14:01, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
  • We don't have any estimate of the chance of getting a recipe yet, do we? --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:28, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
  • Fire flower and cob of corn, you say? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xero storm (talkcontribs) on 22:31 10 April 2011
    • You might think that would be a combination, but it isn't. The fire flower combines with the armgun, though (woo, flamethrower). --Flargen 07:19, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm thinking there might be a link between how much MP is restored and whether or not you get a recipe. My first day using the hot shower, I had over 100MP before showering and only got an MP refill. The last 2 days, I was down to under 50MP (out of 400+), showered and got a recipe. Today -- 100+ remaining, showered with no recipe. Anyone else see this trend? --Spleenmaster 14:58, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

  • I just had my first Amazing Idea while having 378 (out of 1602) MP. I can't remember the days before, but the numbers most likely where similar. --Yatsufusa 15:54, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
    • Then perhaps it's based on percentage of MP restored. Just a thought. --Spleenmaster 14:01, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

I've also had two incidences of 1 MP being restored, and no recipe.--Foggy 16:17, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

  • One of my characters got a recipe (the mysterious box) while being already full on MP, another one got a recipe (the giant diamond ring) after having done "/cast * astral" (so was almost empty on MP). If there is any dependence on MP (total or percentage) being restored, then only the kind of recipe, but probably not the chance to get one. --Ruby Eyes 08:39, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
    • I've taken five hot showers, with my MP already being full on each one, and I've gotten recipes on two out of those five. I really don't think it has to do with MP. --Buttons 15:38, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

No "Amazing Ideas" here yet, been taking "Hot" showers every day since the 2nd w/ MP at varying levels. Wearing "Cold Comfort" outfit didn't seem to make any difference. Wondering if WHEN the shower is taken has any effect, as I'm usually taking mine at the start of each day. --Skittius 09:41, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

  • I take my shower in the beginning of each day, too. But I had one Amazing Idea so far. Maybe we should submit to the possibility that it's just a simple roll on a D20 or something...
Also, tracking if a player has already adventured today would eat up resources. If there are factors to this equation, current MP are much more likely. --Yatsufusa 13:41, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
    • I've been showering (hot) at the end of each day, and have no ideas yet. Usually I've been getting most or all of the 1000 MP. (Two accounts, one in aftercore, and one that was in aftercore for the first week of trying.) --Club (#66669) (Talk) 21:02, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

i just got a new one, the item is a s'more gun, pasting a fireflower and an armgun but am incapable of adding it, and the picture, etc. Don't wanna botch the wiki, so will add it here: http://images.kingdomofloathing.com/itemimages/smoresgun.gif

You're never going to meet anyone who has s'more guns than this guy right here, okay?

This is a combination machine gun and flamethrower, modified for the express purpose of roasting marshmallows, somehow adding graham crackers and chocolate, and delivering them at high speed to an unsuspecting target. Don't settle for s'less!

Type: usable (self or others) Selling Price: 40 Meat.

it allows you to shoot s'mores at others - should you have marshmallows in your inventory.

Is it currently known if the parts for an Amazing Idea must be in inventory in order to get the resulting recipe? That would explain why one of my characters has been pretty unsuccessful in getting any addional recipes. Also, can they be gotten during a run (before NS or prism break)?--PC_Goldman 16:46, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

  • I've gotten them in run with no materials.--Erich 17:26, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
    • Well, that shoots that theory, I suppose. Looking at the list, I think I've only gotten Russian ice and mystery present. Both of them use items I normally have easily. I'll have to check my discoveries when I get home to verify. --PC_Goldman 18:02, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

The chaos popcorn can be made so long as one has the ingredients. The shower is NOT required for it. Shouldn't it be removed, or at least the pasta recipie that uses an amazing idea should be added for consistancy.--Watermoon 00:49, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

  • These pages are formatted and constructed according to the in-game discovery categories. Chaos popcorn is officially listed under Amazing Ideas for meat pasting, so it belongs here. The pasta is not in the amazing ideas section. Though the page text could be fiddled with to mention that chaos popcorn is an exception. --Flargen 00:57, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
    • I agree with Watermoon that it should be removed. It's far easier to say "There are 11 Amazing Ideas that can be learned from the Hot Shower", and list only those, than to list only one of the two derivatives and try to explain why. It will also be less confusing to people that browse to this page from the April Shower or Learned Recipe pages. If you want to mention the derivatives, mention them in the page text. "Though Chaos Popcorn and spaghetti con calaveras are derivatives of Amazing Ideas, you don't need to know the base recipes to craft those items". Simple, streamlined, and no worries of confusion.--Erich 06:30, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
      • That's not how discovery pages are constructed. They list what the game lists. The game says chaos popcorn is an amazing idea. End of story. Reword the page, but chaos popcorn stays. --Flargen 06:50, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
        • This isn't a discovery page. This is a list of amazing ideas that are learned through the shower. The way the discovery page is constructed has NOTHING to do with what you learn from the shower; if you want to see how it's constructed, go to the discovery pages thenselves. The April Showers page links to this page via the phrase "You have discovered a new recipe: random Amazing Idea", not "this is what the Amazing Ideas section of each discovery page looks like, regardless of what you actually learn from the shower". It's the same as saying "here are the recipes you can learn from the Spookyraven library noncom, but because that's not how discovery pages are constructed. They list what the game lists, here are some other recipes that we'll throw in here too, just for the sake of it". It makes zero sense.--Erich 07:29, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
  • This must have been fixed. I bought popcorn and tried to cook chaos butterfly and popcorn(purchased popcorn) and it failed.--Plater (t|c) 02:27, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
    • Probably because it's a Meat-Pasting recipe. ;) --Yatsufusa 03:36, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

-- Got the following message today (6/28) but I didn't think I had all the Amazing Ideas yet; I was missing Chaos Popcorn in my Discoveries:

"After a brief period of panic while your skin adjusts to the bubblin' hot water, you relax and let your mind waft away with the steam. Hey, you know what? Dude! It's so obvious!

Oh. No, wait. That's a terrible idea. Never mind.

Looks like this shower has given you all of the ideas you're gonna get. Time to start showering somewhere else."

I was able to paste a Chaos Popcorn anyway though, even without getting the recipe; meat pasting told me I'd made a new discovery. Weird.

--Glukthar 01:36, 29 June 2011 (CEST)

  • Not weird, expected. Chaos popcorn has never been a Shower-given Amazing Idea. --RoyalTonberry 02:03, 29 June 2011 (CEST)
