Talk:Ancient Yuletide Troll

From A KoL Wiki

It appears that the Troll is most like the Spooky Pirate Skeleton in terms of strengths - or at least, it is NOT like the Hare, and using RetroFrog's variant of Xylpher's familiar tool while pretending that my Troll is a Skeleton seems to give more or less the expected results. (It was my second guess, so I obviously haven't tried all the other possible familiars that suck at hide and seek.) --Id the Mildly Confused 03:52, 1 December 2006 (CST)

Out of curiosity, has anyone looked into whether the hp/mp gain from the yuletide troll is better than using a volleychaun and doc-galaktik/guild store? I would like to know if it would be more efficient to think "screw the yules; I have money".--Mxylptlk 14:38, 7 January 2007 (CST)

info dump!

Gronald is pretty lousy at hide and seek, since he can't stop singing long enough to stay hidden.

What About "Volleyball + 40% of a Ghuol Whelp. Also occasionally drops items that let you cast minor buffs on other people" Shouldn't that be included? -Vesiv

It's already mentioned on the other page --Piroteknix 21:01, 1 December 2006 (CST)

Combat data

I tested 100 combats with a Troll (ranging in weight from 17-23 lbs.)
It restored either HP or MP after 50 of 100 combats.
At 17 pounds: Restored 13,6,13,11,6
At 21 pounds: Restored 13,10,13,14,13,15
At 22 pounds: Restored 13,13,10,12,12
At 23 pounds: Restored 16,15,10,16,17,16,10,17,17,10,14,13,13
Also got 7 carol pages in 100 combats (with ancient book equipped at all times).
Sorry I gave up tracking points restored after a while. Anyway, have at it, math guys. --Prestige 06:24, 2 December 2006 (CST)

Jick recently gave the formula for the Ancient Yuletide Trollhere. The emoticons are accidental - they are represented in text by "8)".--GoldS 03:39, 3 December 2006 (CST)
Well, the emoticons aren't there now anyway.--GoldS 03:41, 3 December 2006 (CST)

  • I'm posting the item drop data on the page under the assumption that item drop boosters do affect the drop rate. I will continue gathering data to figure out whether or not this is true.--Yiab 14:18, 9 January 2007 (CST)
  • This new data seems to indicate that item drop boosters do not affect the drop rate.--Yiab 13:54, 14 January 2007 (CST)

Okay, I took my troll into a hardcore ascension with me, and the drop rates I'm getting now make absolutely no sense in the context of those I recorded earlier.
Day 1: 8 sheets in 90 combats
Day 2: 6 sheets in 91 combats
Day 3: 11 sheets in 56 combats (!)
On day 1, near the beginning, the troll was 25 LBS, but I quickly began using empathy and leash to bring it up to 35 LBS where it's stayed since. I have not been using any familiar equipment at all. I have mad looting skillz and powers of observatiogn permed, and nothing else that affects item drops. I'm beginning to think that the drop rates for sheet music depend on level somehow, or are adversely affected by increased familiar weight. I would have concluded that they depend on the moons, but over the 12 days I recorded drop rates before ascending this time, they were surprisingly consistent.
A side note which may have affected day 3's drop rates: I began using the sheet music partway through day 3. The carols may have the added effect of increasing sheet music drop rates, though the day 1 and 2 drop rates are still much higher than expected.--Yiab 09:53, 19 January 2007 (CST)

  • I made a mistake here: day 3 I got 6 rather than the 11 I thought I got. The number of sheets appears to be within the same range each day, almost regardless of the number of combats. This is very unusual, but I have almost no motivation to continue this exploration indefinitely, so after a small amount more data gathering I will soon stop.--Yiab 10:52, 30 January 2007 (CST)
    • Just in case anyone feels like picking this up again, I suspect that the troll is using a similar mechanism to the Mayflower bouquet (the first 5 drops seem pretty easy to come by, but getting more than 5 is rather rare) or the Astral Badger (the chance of a drop starts out high and then lowers every time you get a drop, with a hard cap at 5). If Yiab, by some stretch of backup, still has the actual info on WHEN the troll dropped its carols, that might be interesting to examine. --Hellion 12:29, 6 February 2008 (CST)

This was not quite accurate

  • i know skully's major was english and not maths, but, by my calculation, he was right. 80% of something half the time is 40%. i just don't see otherwise. --Evilkolbot 06:25, 23 January 2007 (CST)
  • What about 80% of (something-5) half the time?--Yiab 10:52, 30 January 2007 (CST)

Is it possible, that the chance of HP/MP gain depends on monster level? I have no statistics, but it does it almost always when I kill CLEESHed critters, and it seems much more rare when I kill star constellations.--Nord 10:10, 22 May 2007 (CDT)
