Talk:Angry cavebugbear

From A KoL Wiki

I'm going to hope that either I got the right page name or that when the proper page is made this will be merged into it with powerful wiki magic.

He races toward you, but you find a lighter and spark it. "Fire bad. . . but fire pretty. . ." the cavebugbear says. "Fire ANGRY!" you shout, thrusting the lighter at him. He backs off for a round.

...is reference to the Beer Bad episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And a miss message of some sort. There are other miss messages, but I'm not a good spade.

Pacification grenades are super-effective against very^n angry cavebugbears. I've mentioned that in Talk:Pacification_grenade--AtGNAT 13:35, 18 May 2012 (CEST)

The name gets progressively very angrier. I'm at a very-very-very-angry cavebugbear now.--Toffile 16:45, 20 May 2012 (CEST)

Siphoning a zoodriver says he's a beast.--Noskilz 03:33, 23 May 2012 (CEST)

I messed up the item use template; I'm not sure how to add the Pacification Grenade icon to this page. That should be all the combat messages, but I couldn't get my moxie high enough in hardcore to be sure which one is the crit. --Drab Emordnilap 17:56, 23 May 2012 (CEST)

I've been using the Meteoid ice beam (+20 Cold damage) in my off-hand and the angry cavebugbears have been consistently taking only +5 cold damage, while the trendy bugbear chefs have been taking +10 cold damage. --PatcheyePete 17:30, 24 May 2012 (CEST)

anecdotal is a kind of evidence, right?

  • olfactable, sweet! i got to fourteen verys (14v) before the area stopped giving bugbears. 4v kicked my arse but i got 4v again pretty much immediately. given jick's love of round numbers the fact that the dumbest explanation suggests the number of bugbears needed is 100 is rather significant, no? of course, i could have miscounted and it's 120, but this is a start. --Evilkolbot 12:34, 2 June 2012 (CEST)
  • Went up to 12 today, then reset, fought two more and got darwin's revenge. Total sum would be 81, so maybe 80 is the magic number ? --Aenye Deithven 2 June 2012
  • Straight to 14 verys for me too before completing the zone (Funk Bluegrass Fusion and moxie boosts helped). If the above 12 verys + 2 after reset is accurate, then it sounds like it's just a flat 14 bugbears, verys notwithstanding. --Naturefreak2101 18:54, 11 June 2012 (CEST)
  • Straight to 13, pacified the 14th, zone was completed afterwards. Seems like a straight count to me, too. --Aib 23:35, 13 June 2012 (CEST)

Cap to "very"s

  • Shouldn't the "cap" be determined by how many "very"s you can get if you complete the room and you never use a grenade? Or is there a way through some equipment or skill combo to delay the completion of the room while still killing them?--Leaper 01:45, 17 June 2012 (CEST)

ML

I fought 15 of them, and tracked stat gains at each anger level (starting at zero and going up to 14). Regression of implied ML (based on stat gain) vs. anger level gives ML = 220.7 + 19.9 x (anger level) with r-squared of 0.997. Crayon shavings did equivalent amounts of deleveling to both attack and defense, so they appear to be the same. Hit points appear to be about 100 more than ML.--MogamboRanger 17:30, 18 June 2012 (CEST)

How many cavebugbugbears to kill?

I think the short answer is 50 Angries. Here's how I define an Angry:

  • An "Angry Cavebugbear" is 1 Angry
  • A "Very Angry Cavebugbear" is 2 Angries
  • A "Very, Very Angry Cavebugbear" is 3 Angries
  • A "Very, Very, Very Angry Cavebugbear" is 4 Angries
  • A "Very, Very, Very, Very Angry Cavebugbear" is 5 Angries

According to my logs, I fought 28 cavebugbears: 1 Angry, 1 Very Angry, 8 Very^2 Angry, 8 Very^3 Angry, 1 Very^4 Angry and 1 Very^5 Angry. This calculates to 50 total Angries. While such a nice round number could be a coincidence, I doubt it. Can someone else count the # angries they get during their next run and confirm/refute my theory? --Steam 23:21, 21 July 2012 (CEST)

I see now this wouldn't work. Fighting 15 cavebugbears in a row without pacifying would result in 120 Angries, much higher than 50.--Steam 23:47, 21 July 2012 (CEST)

My theory is that it's based on ML. Since that starts at 220 and increases by 20 for each, I assigned "angry" the number 11 (dividing by 20 to keep the math easier for myself) and each one after that increased by one.

A run that starts at 0 verys and never uses a grenade so gets to 14 verys would work out to 11+12+13+...+25=270.

Steam's run would work out to 268.

I just killed up to 11 verys, used 4 grenades to get the 12th back to 0, and continued killing. I'm pretty sure I got to 3 verys the second time, which works out to 244.

I might be missing something - maybe the base bugbears don't count for anything for some reason - but I think this has got to be pretty close. Besides, maybe I wasn't paying enough attention at the end and I killed one more bugbear. Or maybe the grenaded ones count for more than what they end at. It doesn't work out exactly, I don't think, but it's very close to total ML of 5000.

--Parmeisan 21:43, 23 July 2012 (CEST)

I just noticed Steam couldn't have listed all his/her bugbears because it doesn't add up to the 28. Impossible to know which ones he pacified as well - but I'm thinking from above comments that any pacified bugbears count as the ML they began at, and then everything seems to jive from there with the small amount of data we have. --Parmeisan 21:52, 23 July 2012 (CEST)

More data points. By number of verys, where 6p0 means it started the fight at 6 verys and was pacified down to 0. 0,1,2,3,4,5,6p0,1,2,3,4,5p0,1,2,3,4p0,1,2,3p0

I now definitely believe the total ML killed must be 5000 and that pacified bugbears count as what they started at. This run gives 5220 (4940 prior to the last kill). (If pacified counted as what they ended at, it would have given 4860, with 4640 prior to the last kill.)

--Parmeisan 21:17, 1 August 2012 (CEST)

My recent run agrees with the 5000 ML conjecture: I ran through the galley with +119 ML, no losses. The last cavebugbear I fought had 11 'very's. Cavebugbears 0-10 gave me (220+240+...+420) base ML + 119*11 bonus ML = 3520 + 1309 = 4829 total ML, then cavebugbear 11 put me over 5000 ML. --Bsmith (talk) 14:38, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
