Boost Sombrero Weight or Monster Level?

When using a Hovering Sombrero, does it ever make sense to boost Monster Level rather than Familiar Weight? The Sombrero's stat gains are given by Floor (Sqrt (monster level) * sombrero weight * 3 / 100). The pitchfork and maracas give the same return when (0.03 * sqrt(ML+5) * W) == (0.03 * sqrt(ML) * (W+5)); solving yields a break-even monster level of ML = (W^2 / (2W + 5)). For Sombrero weight of 10, the maracas are best at level 4 and above; at 20 lbs it's level 9 and above; and at 30 lbs it's level 14 and above.

The above calculation does not take into account the inherent stat bonus that 5 monster levels adds. When you take this into account, the equation becomes: (0.03 * sqrt(ML+5) * W) +1 == (0.03 * sqrt(ML) * (W+5)) The break-even point becomes 46ML at 1 lb and 79ML at 40 lb (it is close to a linear curve at this stage)--Blibbler 01:56, 23 August 2006 (CDT)

Curiously, the lead necklace is only better for the Sombrero for Monster Levels exceeding 130 at low weights and 160 at moderate to high weights--Blibbler 02:22, 23 August 2006 (CDT)
