Talk:Avant Guard

From A KoL Wiki

While the announcement message called it Avant Garde, Afterlife Al calls it Avant Guard. May need to rename. --Jef (talk) 01:45, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

  • Looks like this got fixed, thanks! --Jef (talk) 05:43, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Worth noting that you can't adventure without the bodyguard; you can still swap him out. This means you still have access to mimic eggs. --BaronessRatsworth (talk) 04:01, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

  • How to give the mimic experience though. Three charges from the Apriling band piccolo gives 120 xp, so that's one egg per day. --Jef (talk) 05:43, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
  • The Shorter-Order Cook ignores Standard restrictions; that's a single boost of 81xp. And you can recall habitats or purple candle the monster you get from the egg. --BaronessRatsworth (talk) 10:33, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
    • not anymore it doesn't. --Evilkolbot (talk) 17:15, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Factoids

  • Can you get factoids from the bodyguard monsters? --Evilkolbot (talk) 17:15, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Bodyguards at 1 HP

While most of the bodyguards I've encountered have been scaling to my level, it's not infrequent that one will pop up with 1 HP. Anyone else experience that? --BaronessRatsworth (talk) 00:06, 18 August 2024 (UTC)

  • It happens if the defended monster is a scaling one itself and you are above level 5, IIRC. Semenar (talk) 14:48, 18 August 2024 (UTC)

CLEESH

Seems to be completely blocked.

"A nearby bodyguard holds up a "NO CLEESHING" sign. You comply."

Also gotta say, this is the first time I've found myself using Hobopolis spells before breaking ronin. There really should be a section under Strategy for how to handle the wall of bones' bodyguard, as this is going to be a major hurdle for a lot of players. Groveling gravel works great but that's an IotM. --BaronessRatsworth (talk) 14:33, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

  • Clubbers get access to Batter Up, other classes can summon a scaling monster as the bodyguard for the WoB, which caps their stats. The latter's briefly mentioned in Divergences, but may be worth echoing under Strategy? --Name Guy Man (talk) 14:45, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
    • You're correct (and it should be under Strategy instead/as well) but ... that doesn't seem to be something that a new player would ever think of, and this could easily be someone's second run ever. Summoning a scale monster that doesn't scale to replace a non-scaling monster that does scale also seems extremely counterintuitive to the point that I'd assume it was a bug and report it. There has to be a simpler way that non-Clubbers can beat the Wall's bodyguard or the path is broken. --BaronessRatsworth (talk) 20:45, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
      • True, it's pretty counterintuitive, but monster scaling applying after path mechanics (i.e, overriding them completely) is at least consistent with how it has worked in the past with OCRS modifiers and in FotD. Not sure there are better HC F2P options, none of the path-legal monsters drop items that instakill, and nothing on the tower killing page applies here. --Name Guy Man (talk) 22:47, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
      • For what it's worth, when I got to the wall of bones and went 30 rounds against the bodyguard without killing it, I just tried again. The second bodyguard was easy peasy. Unfortunately I didn't note what it was - maybe I just got lucky and drew a scaling (non-scaling) monster the second time. Or maybe there's a mercy mechanism. --Jef (talk) 03:24, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
