Talk:Beaten Up
I was adventuring in the mine in disguise and a cave in only did 3 turns of beaten up. Can someone else confirm this? It seems like it changed.
I'm not sure about the sorceress or the goblin king.
I've heard that...

Pointy mushroom soup;Mushroom wines
The soup and some of the wines cause damage, and kill you, thereby causing beaten up. How many adventures of beaten up from each?--Kiltan 21:28, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
Any time you are assigned the beaten up status from being reduced to 0hp it gives 4 turns of beaten up, this however happens before your turncount is modified leading to everything that gives beaten up while using a turn to be 3 turns and everything that doesn't 4.--Veistran 21:38, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
Number of Adventures logic
It seems that, save for a few specialized exceptions, most adventures give 3 turns of Beaten Up, whereas most non-combat effects (including adventures that 'resolve' before HP is reduced, such as Drunken Stupor/Sneaky Pete's Drunken Stupor adventures, Hidden Temple adventures, and the Naughty Sorceress familiars) give 4. The only exceptions are drinking the Strange Leaflet Giant's potent potable - which gives 3 despite not being an adventure-expending action - and the Naughty Sorceress's second and third forms - which don't count as individual adventures, being accessible only through expending an adventure with the first form. Essentially, I over-complicated what Veistran said.
This is likely a static 4 adventures worth of Beaten Up, modified to 3 or 4 due to how adventures are processed - when a character obtains a noncombat adventure, the adventure is removed from the player's available stock, and then the page is displayed. In combat, however, the combat resolves, be it through victory, bitter defeat, running away, or the 30-round limit kicking in, and THEN the adventure is expended. Again, the explanation to the Naughty Sorceress inconsistency being that the adventure used while fighting the NS is resolved after the first round of the fight, making the second and third forms not count as "adventures". The giant, on the other hand, seems to be intentional, being 3 adventures of Beaten Up because "that's how most people think of the status".--Katarani 23:06, 22 July 2006 (CDT)
- I just got Beaten Up by the awful poetry journal--such pain in the name of experimentation!--and it was for only 3 turns. That's a non-adventure...do you think it's like the Giant?-Adalia 18:51, 8 December 2006 (CST)
- In any case, it seems like it would be better to state on the page that HP loss outside of combat gives 4 turns, rather than the large list that's currently present. (Are there any exceptions to this rule?) --Starwed 12:18, 25 March 2007 (CDT)
Effect Length
- As I remember, when you acquire "Beaten Up (3)" it doesn't not add to any leftover beaten up you already have, unlike other effects. Does this apply to all the sources listed on the page? Also, (more of a note to self) I searched for "You lose. You slink away, dejected and defeated.", but didn't find any place to put that message.--Dehstil (t|c) 19:30, 10 August 2006 (CDT)
Unnecessary Sources
I think we can safely remove most of the sources that give 4 turns and sum them up under "losing all HP outside of combat". I'll leave the sources that directly give it, such as foie gras and explosion-flavored chewing gum. --TechSmurf 15:16, 25 September 2007 (CDT)
Can't we just say that beaten up *always* gives 4 turns? In combat, as with other things obtained during combat, you simply lose the first turn right away. --CluckyB 23:55, 13 January 2008 (CST)
Unbeaten Up
Just now, I adventured with a few HP and one turn of beaten up, lost all my HP, and did not gain 3 more turns of beaten up. It seems that after more turns are added, there is a broad, 'no more beaten up' clause that is applied if you've earned it. Anyone with a similar experience, please respond.-Steve the Mighty 03:12, 15 October 2007 (CDT)
Soft Green Echo Eyedrop Antidotes cure Beaten Up as well. --Antoids 20:39, 22 December 2007 (CST)
The March Hare prevents being beaten up, perhaps that and a note about the SGEEA could be added. --Telis R 06:22, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
turns granted
It would be worth mentioning on the page, though I'm not sure quite how to do it, that--theoretically, most times where Beaten up is awarded, you get 4 turns of it--it just gets awarded before combat ends--like the plethora of other in-combat effects such as Embarrassed or On Fire--so one turn is consumed when combat ends. This general standard of four turns provides for the 2 turns in the underwater areas without Fishy and the four turns from usable items, consumables, Mr. Store reshapables, etc. that remove HP. --Blzbob 20:39, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Medicinal Herb's medicinal herbs does not cure beaten up
As mentioned in the talk page for Medicinal Herb's medicinal herbs, using this does not cure beaten up. I've corrected this on the content page. --Tagon 11:27, 24 June 2009
