Talk:Bees Hate You

From A KoL Wiki

So, what happens if you try to fight The Guy Made Of Bees? A special message? Actual character death and instant return to Valhalla? --Quietust (t|c) 16:29, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

  • So far, I've chosen the "Say "Guy made of bees." option eight times this BHY run. So far, I only got the "Nothing happens" result. --0-9 11:46, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
  • <spoiler> the third form of the NS is the Guy made of bees. --Anmbia 11:57, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
  • and someone edited in that the wand is not needed - I forgot to grab the text, but I'm pretty sure this isn't true, as attempting to use the wand is in the encounter text on the third form/guy made of bees. --VanDamien 07:26, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
    • That was me. A clannie had just defeated it without a wand, just the mirror. --Flargen 07:40, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
      • Yep, just did it myself without the wand. You don't get the funny wand text, but you can fight and kill him normally. --Flargen 06:46, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
    • if you have the wand the encounter if funnier. Here's the text from silvaknights run:

"Ha! You will never defeat me!" The Sorceress cackles. There is a muffled *POP* and a slightly greasy smell as the apparition vanishes and is replaced by a nasty-looking floating sausage.

A horrible droning fills the room as the room fills with horrible drones -- bees, that is, which pour through the window in a cloud and surround the sausage-cum- sorceress.

"What is going on here?" she shrieks. "What do you think you're doing?"

"WE ARE BEES. YOUR TIME IS AT AN END."

The swarm envelops the sausage and proceeds to tear it apart. You clap your hands to your ears, but it does little to protect you from the horrifying screams.

Eventually, their work finished, the bees move away from the sad grease-spot on the floor and approach you. They shift into the roughly-humanoid form known only as the Guy Made of Bees.

"THIS PLACE IS OURS NOW."

"This this tower? Well sure, I--"

"NO. THIS KINGDOM."

You grit your teeth. "I'm not gonna let you take over the kingdom, Bees."

"YOU WILL NOT STOP US, HUMAN. WE ARE BEES. WE HATE YOU."

"Oh yeah?" you shout. "Well, what do you think of... THIS?" You pull the Wand of Nagamar from your sleeve and point it at malevolent swarm.

A bolt of light streams from the wand and transforms the Guy Made of Bees into A Bemused Fogey. -hic- silvaknight: "Ho ho ho!" the old man chuckles, then frowns. He scatters into a cloud of bees, which then reforms into its humanoid shape.

"THAT DEVICE WILL NOT SAVE YOU, HU--" Light sprays from the wand again, turning them into an Aged Beefy Sumo.

The elderly sumo wrestler growls, snatches the Wand from you, and breaks it in half before dissipating back into a swarm of bees.

"ENOUGH NONSENSE. PREPARE TO DIE."

The swarm freezes as you pull out the antique hand-mirror. "THE SPOOKYRAVEN HUMAN'S MIRROR! HOW DID YOU... NO!"

As you hurl the mirror at the ground, the bees leap through the air in a futile attempt to catch it, but the mirror shatters on the floor with a noise as loud as thunder.

The Guy Made of Bees reaches out, as if to strangle you, but the bees are already dissolving into puffs of yellow and black dust. "WE WILL RETURN, HUMAN. WE ARE BEES. WE HATE..." Then, silence.

"And here you thought you'd take the kingdom... by swarm," you say, as you put on your sunglasses. "Yeeeaaaaaahhhhhh!"

You acquire an item: Instant Karma You acquire an item: Thwaitgold bee statuette

What does "cannot use" mean for a familiar? How do you find The Black Market if you can't use a Reassembled Blackbird? --Club (#66669) (Talk) 17:29, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

  • Something will be done, because I had to use the Cobb's Knob map (3 Bs!) and got "You overcome your fear of Bs and use the item, but the Bs take it out on you. You lose 50 hit points." My max HP was 50 at the time. --Turing 19:40, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
    • Yeah I lost 28 HP which was my max so I think it's safe to say that you lose your max HP and get three turns of beaten up. Winterbay 20:03, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Why can't you make the meatcar unless you're a muscle sign? From the comments here, you can craft B items... --Jimfromtx 04:33, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Do you stop encountering bees after you free King Ralph? --JohnAnon 07:49, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

  • Seem like that. Adventured a bit after defeating NS, encountered a bee. Broke the prism, haven't seen a bee in about 40 adventures now. --Rikastley 00:46, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
    • Make that no bee in 100 adventures. For me, it seems clear that you won't encounter bees anymore after breaking the prism. Also, the honeypot effect outside the bee restrictions doesn't seem to give you chance of bee encounters. 20 out of 100 turns used, no bee yet. --Rikastley 14:37, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Well this is going to suck

Off in the distance to the southeast, you spot a strange ring of mountains, with a cave leading into them.

You focus the telescope on the entrance of the cave, and see a mass of bees surrounding it.

You raise the telescope a little higher, and see a window at the base of a tall brick tower. Through the window, you see a formidable stinger.

Further up, you see a second window. Through this one, you see a formidable stinger.

Even further up, you see a third window. Through it you see a formidable stinger.

Looking still higher, you see another window. Through the fourth window you see a formidable stinger.

Even further up, you see a fifth window. Through that one you see a formidable stinger.

Near the top of the tower, you see a sixth and final window. Through it you see a formidable stinger.

Crafting

It seems you CAN craft with ingredients that have the letter B in them. I made a sausage pizza (that uses a knoB sausage). --Turing 20:36, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Knob Goblin Perfume...

... isn't strictly required to do the King quest. Harem gives the scent if going as a Harem Girl, and there's the Elite Guard outfit + Knob Cake path. --Raijinili 21:51, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Yup, and you can't use it. --Anmbia 10:43, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Category

Rather than the uninformative and one-more-thing-to-maintain table, why not have the

Anyway, have the "b" things be a category, which will be kept up to date by people adding the categories to the pages. --Raijinili 22:05, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

beaten up when using quest B items

For the knob encryption key/map I definitely got 7 turns of beaten up, not 3. --catchops 22:53, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Encounter info

Since there's a lack of buzzerker page, here's an encounter (at level 5, 28 moxie (mainstat), 76 buffed moxie):

buzzerker.gif

You're fighting a buzzerker
The buzzerker (or 'beeserker', if you think that's funnier) is a bee that will stop at nothing to destroy his enemies, even if it means his own death. Since just about all bees die when they sting something, this is basically status quo, but this particular bee really, really means it.
(pickpocketed handful of honey)
He manages to sting you without catching the barb of his stinger, so he lives to sting again. Yay?
Ugh! Ow! Argh! Ugh! Argh!
He stings you in the leg. Er, while frothing at the mouth, or something. Wattaya want from me?
Ouch! Ow! Ouch! Ouch! Ugh! Ugh!

unfortunately, died to 25-27 damage attacks :< --Rikastley 00:06, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Also, new one:

(missed the intro text) You're fighting a beebee queue

Each beebee waits patiently for its turn to sting you. How polite! And painful! Ooh! Eek! Argh! Ouch! Ow! Ouch!

It has 53 or less HP, they might be scaling, since it's attack did about the same damage as the Buzzerker. --Rikastley 00:16, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

The Buzzerker and Beebee King both shrugged off Entangling Noodles the same round I cast it, then hit me. I suspect they're just immune to multiround stuns, but I can't test that right now. This might be true of all special bee encounters. --Hetzer 07:19, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

What effect does freeing the king have on the bee encounters? As much honey as the outfit requires, I hope the answer is "none". The main page is very clear about the restrictions being dropped after breaking the prism, but I just want to make sure I'm not assuming anything I shouldn't. --Noskilz 23:12, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

All the 'high level' bees (queen, king, thoven) I encountered are resistant to deleveling. My Offensive Joke skill (-20 ML, 20-40 sleaze dmg) only did - 5 ML. Also, as noted on their discussion pages, they all seem to be 50% resistant to all damage. --Rikastley 19:59, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Adventure overrides

Not sure where to put this - new Notes section?

If you get a bee monster, it will prevent your Llama from showing up at the end of Form of...Bird. I had mine set up for roc feather, then spent remaining Form turns in the barrel full of barrels. Visited Belilaf's and got a bee - which left me thinking I'd miscounted slashes and missed the llama somehow. The llama turned up on the next turn, which was a regular monster.

I expect there's other little quirks like this where the bees jump in early in the code and prevent stuff from happening.--??? This was added by Feliks 2011-05-18T07:40:36

Familiars

I'm not going to take the time to edit this, myself, but honestly... this page is way too bloated with all the familiar tables. It seriously needs to be cut down. --Erich 17:50, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

  • I fully agree. The whole section just looks like it's been ripped out of Familiars by type, I propose a link to that page and then highlighting the usable ones there. I'd go for a yellow background for "Bee" friendly ones, but if consensus is something else, that would work too. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 18:22, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
    • remember this is time limited. in a year the fact that items or familiars aren't bee-friendly will mostly just bemuse and confuse, so i would suggest we don't insert any bee info into existing pages. as far as this page goes, a list of "can use" familiars would be useful, and the "can't use" not so much. --Evilkolbot 19:39, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
      • !Bee runs will still be available, just not for challenge points. If there's a useful table, it would list unusable familiars by type AND their substitutes. --Raijinili 20:03, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Housing

So this currently says you can't use any housing except the cottage and ginormous pumpkin, couldn't you also use the sandcastle (though not be able to make on from bricks, but you could pull the completed sandcastle) and also the house of twigs and spit?

Affected Monster Level?

I'm not sure on this, but on both accounts I have running the bees hate you path, it seems that monsters with a b in their name get a bonus to monster level. If anyone else has noticed it, or cares to spade it out, that'd be nice. --Viziertim 11:36, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

  • I can confirm this. I olfacted zombie waltzers, and they were hitting me every round even though my moxie was above 120 (the 'safe' moxie for that monster). I wasn't paying enough attention to know exactly how much it went up by, but my guess is somewhere around 15 ML. --Anmbia 12:17, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
    • I can also confirm this. Got my ass handed to me by a BlackBerry Bush (3 Bs), when I was about 30 or 40 points over the safe adventuring limit. The rest of the black forest monsters didn't hit me. --Turing 14:30, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

I got got the crap kicked out of me by an elite beer bongadier as I couldn't hit him... with 245 moxie. 0 ML running. All 10 attacks missed. If his base defence of 185 is accurate, that's one hell of an increase. --Lizardking 12:24, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

  • Managed to hit one once with 249 moxie. --Lizardking 12:37, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Tomb bats (175 attack) at +10 ML managed to hit through 220 moxie. Maybe +20 ML per B? Regardless, gained 54 substats (31 moxie), with +10 ML, +3 stats, under moxie sign. --Rikastley 15:04, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

  • I think a percentage-based increase to ML seems more likely. I was having trouble fighting baseball bats but not +60 ML worth of trouble. --Two101 17:50, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
    • Good point. Maybe 10% per B? --Rikastley 22:04, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
      • It'd be more than 10% per B if 245 moxie are completely unable to hit Bongadiers, with their base of 180 ML. 190 for elites. They'd be only 216 and 228 respectively. 20% seems more likely. Mojotech 18:14, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Drinking white lightning and thus only encountering the darkness does not increase ml for what b's the monster would have had--Darkmagicpi 04:53, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Beer Bongadier (180 attack) hit me while I had 216 moxie. Also, during another encounter: it could still hit me at -20 ML, and I couldn't hit it then (with 218 moxie against 176 defense-20 +B bonus) --Rikastley 22:11, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

Panty Raider Frat Boy (200 attack) hit me at 223 moxie. Now just adding data for spading :) And another encounter: Monty Basingstoke-Pratt, IV (ascot-hero, unknown attack/defense) hit me at 223 moxie. Substats gained afterwards: 27, 11, 26 with +10% moxie substats, +3 substats. --Rikastley 22:34, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

  • I am with the percentage based thought process, the Beer Bongadier had about 40 extra HP when I fought them today (was able to watch the HP go negative since I was plinking with candyblasts) and the Bandits had about 20 extra HP, which coincides with +10% ML per occurrence of the letter b. The percentage based boost also coincides with the hit you receive from b's in your equipment and makes sense why the later monsters have much higher boosts than the earlier monsters. Now when do we get +X% ML gear? --Uzziah 01:53, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Just to confirm that it does affect your Shadow as well. Against a Shadow Walrus Bludgeoner, I used some leftover casts to heal up to 438HP without killing it. Sadly the only thing I had left after that was a poultice, so I can't confirm the upper range. At least a 10% increase. --Lizardking 11:05, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Location, not level

I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but the bee you encounter seems to be based on the location you visit, not character level like most other wandering monsters. At level 11 I was regularly getting king/queen bees in the Black Forest and suchlike, then had to go back to the Distant Woods (whoops) and encountered a mumblebee instead, which I had not seen for about 4 or 5 levels at least. --Lizardking 12:21, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

  • Had a few turns to burn to break ronin. Went back to the distant woods and got a moneybee, despite being level 13. Again, had not seen a bee like that since near the beginning of the run. --Lizardking 12:46, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Flyers?

I'm not in the war yet, but I guess you can use jam/rock band flyers? --Rikastley 23:16, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Naughty Sorceress Familiars

I just received some dirt on the NS familiars in Bees Hate You... apparently, she only has 3 familiars due to 2 of the counter-familiars being unusable. This will need to be spaded, I'm sure... but hey, this is a start! Also, Mme_Defarge told me in chat that she needed a Mosquito and an Angry Goat this time around. Hope that helps. --Wrldwzrd89 11:18, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

  • I had to use the Potato and the Goat. --Turing 21:37, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
  • Mosquito and Angry Goat here. --Rikastley 00:44, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Sea-Bee

Well, don't know where/if to put that... but the sea is nothing special except for bees flying even in the sea. Yes - underwater. Same bees as otherwhere, though. (mumblebee in the Briny deeps) --DerMagus 11:41, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

item drops

Maybe it's just my tough luck, but i have a feeling that items with b-s in them have lower drop rates. It's taking ages to get bus passes in pandemonium --Hrag 13:39, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

I had the same thing happen to me on my run we may need to look into this... --Stumpsmcgee 05:48, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

CLEESH

Tested against a beebee king, so maybe it's only the high level bees, but I got the "burps quietly" message. Anyone tried the low-level bees? --Johnny Treehugger 18:13, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Meat Car

The Heavy Kegtank in the War drops a Meat Engine, meaning it's possible for anyone to make a meatcar. --TelcontarNuva 06:03, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

  • How do you propose you get to the island in order to engage in the war before you've unlocked the beach? You can get one, but it's pointless to make one by the time you're at kegtanks. --Flargen 06:42, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
    • does faxbot have those yet? --Hrag 11:20, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
    • I'm going to be honest, Flargen. I did not think of that at all. :P --TelcontarNuva 08:55, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

Olfaction

It seems olfaction was changed, I now get the message "The smell of this opponent is too complex for even your superhuman nose to process." --Pontifex 09:41, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Wizard of Ego

Is this possible to do, as it requires the grave robbing shovel? If not, does that mean the temporal rift is unavailable also? --QVamp 13:41, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

  • Since it only requires you to find the shovel but not 'use' it, you can do that quest. --Rikastley 14:25, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
  • The temporal rift shows up fine. However, for the Wizard of Ego quest, you can get the dusty old book but if it has a B in it (e.g. "Manual of LaBor"), you can't use it until you break the prism. --Rubian77 13:56, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Strategy Page?

Should we make a new page for Bees Hate You strategies? Or just expand the one here?--JohnAnon 21:49, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Separate would be preferable. Current section of this page only lists stuff that are explicit, unambigious "qualities" of the BHY run, such as not being able to use delectable catalysts. I feel like the section should be renamed though. --Hrag 22:36, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
  • Creates a strategy page. I made it as a subpage because the Summer 2011 thing implies this won't be out for long.--JohnAnon 02:16, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Hit Messages for Wearing B Clothing

We should add hit messages for when you wear clothing with b's in the name, such as Bloody clown pants. For example, I got a hit message saying something along the lines of: the b's hirt you where the sun doesn't shine. --Hughdo 12:32, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Alas, it looks like all the messages are one and the same. I agree, a mention should be made, though. --Wrldwzrd89 16:42, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Beestunned

I just stunned a bee swarm, and it was myself who added the note about it being immune to stunning. It was NOT a critical Entangling Noodles. It was stunned for one turn before escaping.

Looks like spading needs to be done about this. --Raijinili 23:09, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Familiar Hatchlings

It seems that familiar hatchlings with B's in their name (such as the Adorable Seal Larva, in my case) can be put in your terrarium. Naturefreak2101 23:44, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Feast of Boris

I didn't see this mentioned already, so I'm mentioning it. Today is the feast of boris, and i've been keeping careful track of my fullness. I'm at 14 fullness right now, and I got the message "you're too full to eat that" while trying to eat a lemon meringue pie (3 fullness). so it looks like we dont get an extra fullness from the feast of boris. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pthalo (talkcontribs) on 23:23, 2011 June 20

  • I saw it somewhere else. So many places to note these things. Anyway, since I was in a position to test: you get the extra fullness when you leave the BHY restrictions, i.e. break the Prism. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 18:53, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
    • On the main page, instead of saying "Today is the Feast of Boris! Eat, eat, eat!" with images of turkeys, it says "Today is the Feast of B... Awww, crap." with images of bees. The main page should be edited to make mention that you don't have access to this holiday. I speculate that other "B" holidays are blocked as well, but I can't confirm that.--Zorkman 03:32, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
      • That's not entirely true. You have access to the annoying part of the holiday but not the good part. It's also been listed there since just after rollover last night. (Not the BHY in full, but we'll add that when we start getting more of the special holiday messages).--Toffile 07:49, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
        • For a short while yesterday, one of my accounts was being tracked by three sets of wandering monsters: Bees, Boris, and Nemesis assassins. But then I broke the prism. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 21:21, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Trapz0r

Has anyone gotten anything other than the "find 3 asbestos ore" from the trapzor? 4 out of 4 times, I've gotten asbestos so far, and I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences. the asbestos has a b, so it makes it more difficult to use the weapon you get from him. --Pthalo 17:55, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

The Trapz0r asked me for chrome ore. Of course, being a moxie class, I got a crossbow out of the deal. --Itsatrap 18:29, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
Fifth times the charm, I just got asked for linoleum. also a moxie class, so I'll be sticking to my rock and roll legend anyway.

Tower bees/Gates

Useless fact of little importance: After finishing BHY, both the gate and tower monsters revert to their normal form, should you observe them through the telescope. I guess the bees override the tower monsters during BHY rather than outright replacing them. --Lizardking 14:24, 3 July 2011 (CEST)

Bricks

Bricks use curse.php, which I suppose is why you can use them in BHY. --Johnny Treehugger 23:08, 12 July 2011 (CEST)

Battlefield interaction (level 12 quest)

When facing a BHY enemy during the war on the battlefield, and using a PADL Phone or Communications Windchimes, the battle is treated as if you're not on the Battlefield. This was changed recently -- I used the items last week successfully.--Hastifer 16:26, 22 July 2011 (CEST)

  • I'm pretty sure I tried it during my first BHY run without success. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:40, 22 July 2011 (CEST)

End Date

On the Special challenge path page, I see an end date is predicted, but it is not on this page. If it's ending, do we know information about it ending that would belong on this page? I can't seem to find the source of this info anywhere on the forums to get more information. I would assume common questions would belong here, in an "ending" section, such as if it ends while you're in the middle of a run, what happens? --Fryguy9 17:21, 3 August 2011 (CEST)

Information on the end of BHY is in this thread. Jick seems to have confirmed that BHY will end August 15th on a radio show (July 14?) at some point in the past few weeks. According to this thread and CDM, you'll only get challenge path karma for BHY ascensions completed by August 14th. Any BHY runs completed on August 15th or after will not get bonus karma because the new challenge path will have started.--Quackosaur 17:43, 3 August 2011 (CEST)
Radio show 20110804 around about 18min mark - Jick talks about leaving the karma bonus for BHY runs completed on or after the Aug 15. --Hrag 13:03, 7 August 2011 (CEST)

Eldritch Intellect

Beware the Eldritch Tentacles on this path if you have Eldritch Intellect permed! The b's you can see in their names (e.g., Blrgglbrghbrghblrghbbbbbbb) make 'em stronger. Ouch. --Baltar (talk) 22:09, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
