Talk:Big-Time Generator

From A KoL Wiki

When I got this adventure, the board layout was such that one selection had a 100% chance of success (i.e. no "random" pegs at all) and the others were probably 0%, which is distinctly different from Porko. --Quietust (t|c) 19:05, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

  • Not quite distinctly. There are porko boards that have completely deterministic outcomes from certain slots, even with random pegs along the way (they eventually feed into non-random pegs that direct the chip to the same position regardless). It's not infrequent that I get boards I can guarantee 3 isotopes per chip. And I'm pretty sure I've a mafia debug log of a generator board that had a number of random pegs on the way to the final destination. It may be coded so that there is at least one slot with a 100% chance of success. I do figure that there's code to make sure there's at least a non-zero chance of success from some slots. I've seen porko boards where the maximum expected yield was .16, so the level of randomness there would fairly easily yield an uncompletable quest sometimes. --Flargen 19:15, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
  • After failing 3 times I received the E.M.U. harness and E.M.U. helmet. My guess is it gives you one item from each map.--Lazy fire 09:37, 28 June 2011 (CEST)
    • Nope. I got 2 parts from the same side (cannot remember which ones now though) so it sounds slightly more random than that. Winterbay 13:48, 28 June 2011 (CEST)
  • Guessing the name is a reference to "Big Time Operator" by the Dead Milkmen. Nothing in the text backs it up, tho... Still a good song. --Dram 10:50, 25 December 2011 (CET)
