Soft damage cap
- This topic is finished and kept around for archive purposes. --Raijinili 10
- 46, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
i know it's finished, but
500 + (X-500)0.7, rounded down, where X > 5000 is the damage before the soft cap
- two problems with this. 500 in the equation looks wrong. what happens to the damage between 500 and 5000? also, "x > 5000" means "x is greater than" not "x greater than". if the formula is correct, this should be changed to what's in the formula, or "x - 5000". how wrong am i? --Evilkolbot 13:50, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
- that's a typos. --Raijinili 04:48, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
Data
Love Songs/Divine items (expected -> actual):
- 502 -> 502
- 827 -> 827
- 4704 -> 4704
- 128411 -> 8664*
- 109225 -> 8254*
- 115984 -> 8402*
- 116005 -> 8402*
Thanks to smorgas, VinnyB, WeatherBoy
* from VinnyB, who might have some statvariance effects up.
- 10.4m Salamander Kata'd Flying Fire Fist (51.75-52.5m expected damage) -> 257366
- Not known to be rounded up from 10.35m or not, or whether it's 10.49999m, which is why "expected" has a range.
- Salamanderenity (25583415) (127917117-127917119) -> 477974
Huge thanks to Guggerbunk.

Slime Stack damage in a single battle:
1070306 1030383 (15 from Slimeling, 15MP gain) 948915 (12 from Slimeling, 12MP gain) 684065 (13 slimeling) 989310 1068666 683457 988428

Theories
I think it's a 50% damage resistance, vulnerable to Cold, which ends up as taking 100% cold damage. darthdud guesses at a 5000 cap for normal damage.
--Raijinili 08:41, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
Some quick calculations shows the first 5000 damage is uncapped and the rest is reduced to x0.7. This fits the figures given above. —Yendor 08:59, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
- Yep, that's what darthdud and I got, too. --Raijinili 10:43, 13 June 2012 (CEST)

I believe but cannot yet confirm (testing in progress) that you get three rewards once you crack 100. -Captain Video 22:25, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
- Okay, I've gotten 3 medals for 101 damage, so now I just need to know what I get for 100 and we'll have this in the bag. -Captain Video 22:35, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
Day 1 (June 13)
It's possible that commendations are calculated via damage before cap, so having the damage sequence is better. But you do what you can.

--Raijinili 08:14, 13 June 2012 (CEST) --FortyCakes 12:46, 13 June 2012 (CEST) (added 3-commendation)
There does seem to be a minimum damage for getting one commendation. I used fancy bath salts to see if it could be deleveled. my buffs did a total of 3 damage when it attacked me during that turn. I then ran away and did not receive a commendation. MatrixM 09:13, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
- As I've just tested and will now add to the main page, it only counts Cold damage. --Raijinili 09:50, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
Nightvol on the forum proposed that the damage required per commendation depends on your level. [1] --Raijinili 10:49, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
- Yeah, I was totally wrong about that though. More data points (and the fact that I had been fed some bad data) knocked that theory out.--Nightvol 19:37, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
These numbers above 1 all seem way off to me. I deal from around 57-80 cold damage each time and always get 2 commendations. --Logsta 06:07, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
- Table is from yesterday--values are different today with the updated combat mechanics. --Itsatrap 06:32, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
- In fact, I'm going to zero them out now, so as not to confuse the issue. --Itsatrap 06:34, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
5k Damage gives 4 commendations, 10k gives 5, and 63k gives 5. --Kurtispj 07:32, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
- I never got more than one commendation: (June 13th) [3092] Fightin' Fire Encounter: brushfire Round 2: brushfire takes 349 damage. Round 3: brushfire takes 296 damage. Round 4: brushfire takes 247 damage. Round 5: brushfire takes 336 damage. Round 7: brushfire takes 334 damage. Round 8: brushfire takes 340 damage. You acquire an item: FDKOL commendation (So only one for 1,902 cold damage as a 14th level Sauceror).
--Dcorrin 15:30, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
Damage taken
Appears to hit the player for 20%-30% of maximum HP per round of combat. Player neither takes nor deals damage on the "final" round of combat. --Itsatrap 08:37, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
Deleveling
Intimidating Bellow does nothing apart (from stun with the upgrade, that is). MatrixM 09:09, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
I tried the upgraded version just now, and got 12 delev with +40 ML. If you tried it without bonus ML, that explains it!--Jambosque 00:55, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
Turtles
For the fun of it, tried out turtle pheromones. None in the brushfires. Qaianna 09:14, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
Shards of double-ice
Ahahah... Probably should've guessed this, but you shouldn't use a shard of double-ice on these guys. Does fairly good damage, but then... --KingBobson 09:44, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
- You can still use them, just be sure it's the last round of combat. --Yatsufusa 21:58, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
Main Stat Requirements
I'm sure there isn't a minimum main stat requirement, as I had all of my modified stats at 1, and could still fight it. (Also, I couldn't smell it with Transcendent Olfaction) --Fyll 10:05, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
Nerfed
The way to beat these brushfires ~ get coldform, then use skills or weapons that deal a percentage of their maxHP damage such as AT's The Trickster's Trikitixa Extreme High Note, or an Elven Whittling Knife in combination with an Operation Patriot Shield throw shield stun or double-fisting a Haiku Katana and using summer siesta ... failing that, Snowclone (hobopolis 120MP cold spell) deals a fairly decent amount of cold damage. - AvangionQ 17:07, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
Time out
It would appear at first glance that you're only allowed to fight [fire resist / 3] rounds. Fighting with fire resist 5 kicked me out after one round, but nudging it up to fire resist 6 let me go two rounds.--Harlock the Bard 17:46, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
I can confirm this. Having 9 resist kicked me out after 3 rounds and at 12 resistance it was 4 rounds.--Nude Hotdog 22:04, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
Nearby locations
I tried this for a bit, but as I could not get over about 1600 damage and only got one commendation, I decided to go back to my regularly scheduled adventure, but while adventuring at the Cobb's Knob Treasury I got the following different messages. I don't know where they should go:
-In the distance, you hear a loud whoosh, followed by the screams of several Knob Goblins.
-You look at the ground near your feet and see a massive scorch mark -- judging from the heat still rising from it, it's pretty fresh.
-You hear a loud thump in the distance, and a few moments later a wave of heat hits you like a ton of bricks. Hot bricks, like bricks from inside an oven or something.
-You catch a whiff of something burning. Which is normal for the Knob, I guess. But you also catch a whiff of something even more burning than usual.
(This is documented in the Cobb's Knob main entry discussion already)

Clancy and Familiars
I tried setting Clancy to each of his three instruments, and he does nothing. While I didn't expect him to find extra items, he doesn't heal or boost stat gain either. Have anyone noticed a similar situation with familiars that don't attack? --Dinomage 19:14, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
- as discussed above, the fight ends more like a stomp than a normal combat. that is, only the "drop an item" code fires and nothing else. --19:30, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
- Missed that, sorry. --Dinomage 20:52, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
Special Messages
When I ran out of adventures, I got the following message: "You haven't got time to fight fire," and when I overdrank my limit, I got "You're too drunk to do something so ill-advised and dangerous." --Dinomage 20:55, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
- Without hot resistance, I get the message: "You can't even get close to that thing dressed the way you are. Get yourself some fireproofing!" This message also applies if you have insufficient hot resistance--Dinomage 21:25, 13 June 2012 (CEST)
Spading
Snowclone seems to do more damage than divines / love songs, but surviving long enough to cast more than three Snowclone spell blasts seems to require in-combat healing, which doesn't appear worth doing ~ when Snowclone hits the 5000+ damage cap, still only getting 5 FDKOL commendations either way. Setting hot resistance to between 9 and 11 ranks allows you to have just enough time to cast Snowclone three times before combat ends, gaining 5 FDKOL commendations each time around, then requiring healing in between combats. MP intensive, but effective enough. PS, most familiars are useless ~ hipster and mimic help a little ... and still no stat gains at end of combat. - AvangionQ 11:07, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
post 14th June
You are awarded between 0 and 10 FDKOL commendations per fight
- would anybody be able to check this? the soft damage cap would mean that this is unlikely. given the new HP max, isn't the new maximum 6? --Evilkolbot 13:54, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
- As I understand it, this thing doesn't die at 0 HP, so the only limit is you. Presumably, if you could manage to nuke it for ten billion cold damage over the course of the fight, you'd still get 10 commendations. 6 is probably a practical maximum though. --Johnny Treehugger 16:54, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
- Oh, wait, forgot about the round limit and the soft damage cap. So you probably couldn't do ten billion damage. Never mind. --Johnny Treehugger 16:58, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
Yeah guggerbunk did a million damage and got 7, screenshots in forum GD topic --Eclipse4227 17:29, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
Initial Fire hit points
Courtesy of my toy space helmet:
- 10509
- 10078
- 10610
- 9337
- 9676
- 9974*
- 9825
- 9513
- 10617
In one case (*), I believe the amount of HP the fire had went up after I used an item on it - 9974 ==> 10038 after frigid ninja stars. Has anyone else had this happen, or am I imagining things? -Captain Video 16:52, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
- Toy space helmet has a percentage variance which changes from round to round, so if it displays HP - 5% one round and new, lower HP + 5% next round, it'll look like it its HP went up. Although it's possible that the fire just resets to 10000 HP every round of combat. --Johnny Treehugger 16:54, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
I dont think that it resets every round, although it is possible. In my last fight I dealt 13,600 damage on round 1, then 4704 on each of the next 3 rounds. This is a total of 27,712 with over your 10,000 hp prediction on round 1. Can anyone else verify the initial hp values? --Mrfred 22:01, 14 June 2012 (CEST)
Miss/Critical/Fumble messages
Should we get rid of the "not known"s for the miss/crit/fumbles? I think that if no-one reported them occurring in the ~5 days they were there for, there probably aren't any. Besides, they make the page look unfinished. --KingBobson 09:17, 29 June 2012 (CEST)
