Talk:Cheap studded belt

From A KoL Wiki

Someone in the KoL forums has mentioned here that there might be more to this then it seems. Does it protect from more damage than the 1 damage reduction the item states? Does it fall apart due to damage absorbed or after absorbing a certain number of times? Or just randomly? --Melon 11:25, 1 April 2008 (CDT)

Level 6 Accordion Thief in HC, this protected me from i think 7 hits of a Mimic Barrel. Perhaps it removes a set amount of total damage inflicted, or maybe an amount dependent on Monster Level? Could also be 2 to N attacks given by some probability distribution. The last seems the most likely, but will require a good bit of spading. If you're interested in testing that, find some monsters that will hit you nearly all the time (using the Furry Suit would be excellent for this), and get a whole bunch of these items, and see what happens.--MindlessGames 18:27, 3 April 2008 (CDT)

Perhaps it only works on low-level monsters. I've worn it for several adventures in two MacGuffin Areas (the Hidden City and the Haunted Wine Cellar), and it hasn't blocked any damage for me yet. --Olaf the Hungry 01:35, 4 April 2008 (CDT)

I've tried the belt in the Frat House (Verge of War) with no seeming damage reduction effect over the 1 damage reduction. It has also not fallen apart yet, despite multiple hits per combat (I'm terrible at playing an SC). --DuckAndCower 11:40, 5 April 2008 (CDT)

I used it to fight the bandits in the battlefield side quest and it took all the damage for 2 turns, and I was a Disco Bandit if that matters. --Vamp6x6x6x 02:57, 6 April 2008 (CDT)

Has anyone tested it versus a Hulking Construct? --Pieces 11:49, 6 April 2008 (CDT)

I can't find the original post, but someone on the forums said that it could only block attacks that would deal up to X damage, and wouldn't block anything that hit you harder. --Deusnoctum 22:00, 6 April 2008 (CDT)

  • This seems likely. I fought Spookyraven four times yesterday, twice without any elemental protection, twice with palm frond cloak and titanium assault umbrella, wearing the belt each time. Without any elemental protection, I was receiving around 50 damage per round and the belt blocked nothing. With elemental protection, I was only receiving 11 damage per round and the belt blocked all damage for the first three rounds before breaking both times. --Fyriole 10:20, 7 April 2008 (CDT)
    • I just had this item equiped when fighting Lord Spookyraven. I didnt get any message about damage being reduced when Spookyraven hit me for 140 cold damage. I thought maybe it doesnt prevent elemental damage at all, but given that is does prevent elemental damage, the theory that it cant prevent any damage that is >30 seems to be more likely --Darkness 04:46, 11 April 2008 (CDT)

The rumor that the belt will not break if you only get hit once per battle is incorrect. Mine disintegrated the first round of combat after I equipped it. --Moe luvs u 02:42, 7 April 2008 (CDT)

Hmm... my addition seems to have disappeared. Against Lord Spookyraven, it acts like a personal massager and didn't block any attack. I don't have time to make the links again, so lets hope it was a bug and is fixed. -- Stickyhands 06:55, 7 April 2008 (CDT)

No, your change has been reverted [1], check the given picture. -- Windharp 08:30, 7 April 2008 (CDT)

  • Hmm... thanks, I missed the reversion (and I looked), since the belt acted like a massager when I fought Lord S. He got me Beat Up in one shot, but I still had 10 HP left from the relaxing massage. Oh well, maybe the bug was fixed when I mentioned it. Stickyhands 13:03, 8 April 2008 (CDT)

Is blocking triggered to protect from groin injuries?

I imagine that the trigger for fully blocking an attack is just unpredictable RNG luck. Regardless, I thought of an interesting mechanism for that. Because it's a belt, I wonder if the damage absorption kicks in when the RNG chooses groin as the body part for the attack to hit. Has anyone suffered an in-game groin hit with the belt equipped? That would disprove my theory and win you my sympathy. --Dkohler 11:45, 7 April 2008 (CDT)

Blockage

Damage Rounds Lasted Notes
1 15 w/o shield
1 15 w/barskin buckler
19-20 2
59-60 n/a Belt did not activate

In one fight, I started out taking ~60 damage. I threw delevelers at it until the damage went down to 29-30. On (presumably) an attack for 29, the belt activated. The next round, I took 30 damage without the belt activating. The round after that, the belt activated again and broke. It appears to block up to 30 damage before falling apart, so long as the damage is less than 30. Also, the 1 DR does not seem to be factored into its blocking-- with just the belt against fuzzy bunnies doing 2 damage (before the belt), it should've lasted 30 rounds. It only lasted 15. When I put on a shield, it lasted 30 rounds. --TechSmurf 06:34, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
