I haven't played many games besides street fighter, tekken and soul calibur, but I think it's safe to say every game of this type has a school girl/innocent character. Xiaoyu in tekken is pretty much the Chun-li type. But since the name is most similar to Chun-liin that it has two parts in the first name, it is a reference to Chun Li first, and a reference to the now archetype of the cute little school girl that Chun Li is a part of.
