Talk:Desert Bus pass

From A KoL Wiki

buggered

  • so, i completed the quest and untinkered my meatcar. now i can't see the bus pass (this store doesn't sell that item, cheater) nor the beach link. i can get there by "go beach" though so all is not lost. but still. --Evilkolbot 23:04, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
    • Go to the main map, should fix your flags. --Flargen 23:09, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Reference?

  • I think this is a pretty obvious reference to Desert Bus, but on the other hand it could just be the obvious name for a bus that goes to the desert, and I really hate "omg this is a reference"itis. Does the reference jump out at anyone else? --billybobfred 00:00, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
    • As it stands, no.--Toffile 00:30, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
      • It jumps out at me. I think it must be deliberate, given the capitalisation.--JiK4eva 07:07, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
        • On the latest radio show Jick & Co. talked about this and basically said it definitely was a reference. Unless I can't detect their sarcasm. But I'm pretty sure there wasn't sarcasm to detect. --Flargen 01:00, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
    • Unless there's some something specific about it that requires knowledge of the reference to appreciate, I don't think it's worth adding. --Itsatrap 17:04, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Purpose?

I get that it lets someone go to the beach without having a meatcar, but it seems a rather costly way to go about it. Is this a speed ascender thing, some kind of gag item, or what? For whatever reason, I can't get one (I untinkered my meatcar to build a meat maid days ago in the hardcore run I just finished), but I'm not sure I'm missing out unless there's more to it than just being able to visit the beach. I did try visiting the main map and also logging out and back in.--Noskilz 01:07, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

  • It's part of a larger set of expected changes. Probably. Right now its main use is in Bad Moon, where it can be used to let you bypass spending any time in the Knoll. Eventually it seems they intend to remove the need to complete the meatcar quest to unlock Whitey's Grove (needed to make wet stew). Currently, in softcore a dictionary pull and a wet stew pull lets you just buy the pass and ignore unlocking the guild, saving 2 turns (unless you're moxie, maybe, for still access, but you save 1 turn). --Flargen 01:50, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
    • It's also intended to take away at least a little bit of the advantage Muscle Signs have over other moonsigns. --Hellion 02:23, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
      • Which it doesn't currently do due to the Whitey's problem, and even with that fixed it really only does it in Softcore, not Hardcore (excluding possibly Bad Moon). 5k is a metric assload of meat in Hardcore, and even fixing whitey's should still make Muscle signs the only viable choice in Hardcore. And if they make moon sign an actual CHOICE in softcore but not hardcore, I will be a sad, sad panda. If Moxie signs still require you to get beach access for their MCD, then it is especially useless to them. I'm hoping there's more to come in this direction, because right now it has at best a couple of marginal and extreme case uses, and little practical value. --Flargen 02:41, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
