Talk:Detective skull
The page says 5%, but I find that the Portly Abomination (appx 60 HP) the detective skull varies between 55 and 66 HP's. Is the number closer to within 10% or is it a fixed number, like within 6 points? --Criswell
After 60 combat rounds, I've narrowed it down to approx +/-5 HP accuracy level for the Detective Skull. These combat rounds were done in three different areas, with monster HP between 50 and 170. Monster levels of up to +20 were used. The HP reported by the Skull was exact approx 20% of the time. At 170HP, the accuracy level never exceeded +/-4 HP over the span 20 attacks. I would assume that any variances of reported HP that are higher than that would be extreme flukes of the RNG.

Sorry, I just discovered this 'talk' page (I am rather new to this). The information here partly contradicts my own observations. Maybe I have updated the page prematurely. Anyway, until now I have not seen one single case of an excess of +/-4 HP. 'Extreme flukes' of the RNG would make sense if the numbers had a normal distribution. Although I did not make any frequency tables until now, I had the feeling that the distribution was flat. Anyway, I'll keep checking the coming days and will update the page with new observations (if necessary).

Eek, I have to eat my words. The distribution is not flat. It peaks at the actual HP. But I still did not see any case where the difference with the actual HP was more than 4. Eliza Dane.
On the tower monsters, it varies at a percentage of 100000, and is often off by hundreds of HP points.... I think it's a small percentage with 4 being the minimum amount to vary from the actual--Vimes177 14:21, 7 November 2006 (CST)
- I can confirm that going 30 rounds with a dictionary against an ABC giant, the hp estimate ranged from 143 to 154. Yet with a fluffy bunny, I saw a range of 1 to 5. I'd guess that a variation of 4 is as low as it goes, but if the monster has a lot of HP, it can get higher.--Starwed 03:47, 31 May 2007 (CDT)
Dont battles only last 30 rounds, not 50?--Antoids
