Talk:Dusty bottle of wine

From A KoL Wiki

Is there anybody trying to figure the symbols for the wine out yet? I just had one with Port, Muscala, & Merlot in that order. -Keesy 2007-06-26-16:19 EST

Glyphs effects correspondence changed

Drinking wine with Glyph nº4 which previosly was fantastic is now turning to crime. It also gave me 7 adventure with Ode. Adicionally glyph nº2 gave was sediments for me. Needs spading to tell if it still is consistent across all players.

Also some wines now show their quality as good(potency still ???).--Tombsice (talk) 00:07, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

  • You realize they reset on ascension right? — Cool12309 (talk) 01:26, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Which wine has which glyph yes. Not which glyph has which effect.--Tombsice (talk) 09:18, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

nº1 is fantastic

nº3 is not the best but not the worst

nº5 shows in the description Effect: Full of Vinegar

nº6 shows in the description Effect: Kiss of the Black Fairy--Tombsice (talk) 18:10, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

No longer dropping?

I've just completed the Bounty Hunter's disintegrating cork quest in the new Wine Cellar. Over the course of 70 adventures with +100% item drop (as well as Brother Smother's Blessing for 20 turns), I did not get a single dusty bottle drop. (I would normally see multiples of each while doing this bounty.) MolotovH (talk) 21:02, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

  • They had stopped dropping with the revamp, but they are now dropping again -- at a lower rate. --Terion (talk) 02:46, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

List of Effects

So far, we've listed four effects on the main page. I've found another: Vinegar Sadly, I didn't get a screenshot, save the flavor text, or anything useful like that. I'll work on that tomorrow. What I DO know, is that it gives ten rounds of "Full of Vinegar", which adds something on the order of 14 to my damage (I wonder if that is level-dependent? Time will tell...) --Nyl 186 09:08, 27 June 2007 (CDT)

It appears to me that drinking the vinegar wine with Ode to Booze will still give one adventure, and no drunkenness. --Pieces 18:36, 1 July 2007 (CDT)

  • I tested this, gives no adventures. Bug was fixed. Psamathos 00:37, 23 August 2007 (CDT)

Glyphs

Okay, I just had two multis drink the wines. It seems that the results you get from drinking a bottle is based off the glyph shown.

You drink the wine. You've had better, but you've had worse.
You guzzle the entire bottle of wine before you realize that it has turned into vinegar. Bleeah.
You drink the bottle of wine, then belch up a cloud of foul-smelling green smoke. Looks like this wine was infused with wormwood. Spoooooooky.
This wine is fantastic! You gulp down the entire bottle, and feel great!
You drink the wine. It tastes pretty good, but when you get to the bottom, it's full of sediment, which turns out to be powdered glass. Ow.
You drink the wine, but it seems to have gone bad. Not in the "turned to vinegar" sense, but the "turned to crime" sense. It perpetrates some violence against you on the inside.

Can anyone confirm/deny this? I'd test more multis, but none of them have the glasses yet. --Ricket 17:29, 1 July 2007 (CDT)

I can definitely deny this. I just drank a theta, and it gave me the massive damage and 2 drunkenness, so it's obviously not the same for everyone. --Pieces 23:15, 1 July 2007 (CDT)

Theta gave me the damage and drunkenness. --TellKenzine 13:00, 2 July 2007 (CDT)

My results showed theta giving massive damage and drunkenness. I didn't edit the article, though it appears to have the same results as mine, excluding reversing theta and whatever the hell glyph2 is supposed to be. --Ricket 16:03, 2 July 2007 (CDT)

Fixed the range of Drunkeness for glyph4 - it was too large before (probably someone under the Blender put that range in).--Jekostas 11:57, 3 August 2007 (CDT)

August 31 Update

Well, as of that date, they've been nerfed. And supposedly "everything else got much better in comparison" Sounds like there's more spading to do! --Jimfromtx 19:53, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

"Everything else got much better in comparison" means exactly that. Dusty Wine got worse, so other stuff looks better but hasn't really improved. --Euphemism 19:59, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Glyph 4 + new Blender

I don't known where to post it, so let it be here. Here're some info about consuming glyph 4 wine with Ode(+2) and new blender (+5 adv for first booze item consumed; ascended after moonsign change).

--NightBird 18:56, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

What are you wearing when drinking these? Could be a tuxedo shirt kind of thing going on. --Flargen 22:18, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
Plexi helmet,SBIP,General Sage's jacket,square sponge pants,solitaire,plexi pocketwatch,glow-in-the-dark wristwatch. I don't think that it's affected by equipment, but maybe it's affected by current moon phase? I'll continue collecting data until 13-14 dec while I'm in aftercore --NightBird 07:31, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
Where did the numbers for the range originally come from? The only spading I see on this page is above, and has a sample size of 7. I've never really played close attention when chugging the stuff. --Starwed 15:03, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
Personally I'd never seen any values outside this range for other moon-signs/unascended characters, but I can collect data for unascended character too (ode+2):
  • 07dec2010: 7, 9, 8, 7, 8, 8, 7, 7, 7 -> 5,7,6,5,6,6,5,5,5
  • 08dec2010: 7, 7, 8, 7, 9, 8, 8, 9, 8 -> 5,5,6,5,7,6,6,7,6
  • 09dec2010: 7, 9, 8, 8, 9, 9, 8, 8, 7 -> 5,7,6,6,7,7,6,6,5
  • 12dec2010: 9, 9, 7, 8, 7, 8, 9, 8, 9 -> 7,7,5,6,5,6,7,6,7
  • 15dec2010: 8, 9, 8, 8, 9, 8, 7, 8, 9 -> 6,7,6,6,7,6,5,6,7

Serendipitous!

I just found all three wines for the glyph pedestal in one section of the cellar. I had sort of assumed that wasn't possible before. (I hope this isn't just common knowledge.) --Ackyri 17:09, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Recent Changes

So, first things first: <grump>the previous cleanup request was solely regarding dusty bottles as a quest item. I changed it to say "formerly" and as far as a quest item goes, that's the only change was needed. Given other apparent changes, it would have been more helpful to indicate what the other additional changes were instead of rolling back a one-word edit.</grump>

Second, after looking through the bottles with several different multis, it appears:

  • The bottles now have fixed qualities and sizes, as well as effects
    • Pinot Noir: Decent booze, size 2 and gives Kiss of the Black Fairy for 10 turns
    • Port: Decent booze, size 1 and gives Full of Vinegar for 10 turns
    • Merlot: Decent booze, size 2, gives the average message
    • Zinfandel: Good booze, size 2, gives the fantastic wine message
    • Marsala: Good booze, size 2, lose about 30% of your HP (for me it was 501 of 1486)
    • Muscat: Decent booze, size 2, lose most of your HP (1285 of 1486)
  • The glyphs do appear to be randomly associated with the bottles and no longer associated with the effects of the wine.

If others can confirm the above, we can update the individual pages for dusty bottles and change this page accordingly.-Foggy (talk) 22:53, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

In Adv/Musc/Myst/Mox format, on two different characters, with +10% musc each -
  • Pinot Noir - 3/4/15/5, 4/8/20/10, Kiss of the Black Fairy for 10, 2 drunk.
  • Port - 2/0/0/0, 2/0/0/0, Full of Vinegar for 10, 1 drunk.
  • Merlot - 4/8/5/6, 4/5/5/5, had better & worse, 2 drunk.
  • Zinfandel - 7/11/12/11, 6/12/15/11, feel great!, 2 drunk.
  • Marsala - 8/9/6/8, 7/8/5/6, powdered glass (-235 HP / 748, then -161 HP / 492), 2 drunk.
  • Muscat - 4/0/0/0, 3/0/0/0, turned to crime (-667 HP / 748, then -430 HP / 492), 2 drunk.
So.... I concur. --Johnny Treehugger (talk) 02:47, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
Didn't drink any, but I checked their descriptions:
  • Pinot Noir: decent, Kiss of the Black Fairy
  • Port: decent, Full of Vinegar
  • Merlot: decent
  • Zinfandel: good
  • Marsala: good
  • Muscat: decent
Confirmed: glyphs are still different for different players, but effects are now tied to items (and displayed in their descriptions) instead of being tied to glyphs. --Vorzer (talk) 07:34, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
