Talk:Eleven

From A KoL Wiki

This page doesn't seem all that useful... it's so ridiculous, it's not even funny. It might be useful if it explained why 11 is so ridiculous, it's not even funny.. but it doesn't. --JRSiebz 20:28, 28 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time) Hatchet Warriors clan polls close on January 11, they said the junk about it being ridiculous not even funny

So add an explanation. --Atlantima 08:11, 29 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Anyone see the 1.21 jigawatt familiar equipment isn't that 11 squared?? --

Yes, 121 is indeed 11 squared. It is quite serendipitous. :-) - --Doppelheathen 15:03, 18 November 2005 (Central Standard Time)

Okay, the whole KFC reference at the bottom doesn't seem to fit in here. It seems more like a reference to secret blend of herbs and spices. The number 11 is only used in the real-life recipe, and not in the description for the item. --Doppelheathen 04:15, 19 November 2005 (Central Standard Time)

11 Ascensions

New stuff is available at each new number of ascensions. Nothing seems special about 11 to me. I think it should be removed from the list.

Snopes link?

The name of the Snopes link is confusing. The only Snopes reference on the page relates to KFC, not Coke. The KFC info is buried in the middle of that page, but the casual reader will assume the link is wrong. --RyokoYahagi 16:54, 18 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)

References

The following references were removed from the main article. For any of these to be incorporated into the article, the specific item must be referenced within KoL (Or must reference KoL). Merely involving the number eleven does not make it a reference.

  • KFC's security measures include its secret blend of 11 herbs and spices being mixed at two different locations and combined at a third location. (according to Snopes.com)
  • The book "Giraffes? Giraffes!" It is said by the authors in the front cover that if you read it more than 11 times you will turn into, a pictured, "Duck boy."
    • Coincidentally, Messier object M11, a magnitude 7.0 open cluster in the constellation Scutum, is also known as the Wild Duck Cluster.
  • Eleven is the smallest positive integer requiring three syllables in English.
    • However, in the Basque language, hamaika ("eleven") has the double meaning of "infinite", probably from amaigabe, "endless", as in Hamaika aldiz etortzeko esan dizut! ("I told you infinite/eleven times to come!").
  • According to the offspring (of indeterminate legitamacy) of superstrings and supergravity, M-theory, we inhabit a universe of 11 spacetime dimensions -- how super is that?

Bitchin' Meatcar

It is a reference to Bitchin' camaro which is the 11th song on the list of songs by the dead milkmen

Basque Language Reference

I believe that the Basque language reference is the most important one. I mean, wouldn't it be rediculous if you sent somebody an infinite number of tomatoes? I think the 'Basque langauge' reference is the one that has to do with all of this stuff.

little sump'm sump'm

You mix up a refreshing cocktail. You acquire 11 little sump'm sump'ms (That's ridiculous. It's not even funny.)

when creating 11 of them.

needs confirmation.

  • 1, sign your post (4 tildas: ~) 2, This happens when you make eleven of anything, cocktail, food, clockwork sphere, gravy fairy. Everytime you make eleven of something you get that message. It's ridiculous, it's not even funny...

MrTimofTimIII 15:30, 23 March 2006 (CST)

Um...

Does anyone actually know why eleven is ridiculous and not even funny?

The link from the main page is "Find out what the big deal is about the number 11" This page doesn't tell us what the big deal is, it just lists all of the times it's appeared. Someone Else

Crackpot Mystic

With the creation of the pixel shield doesn't he actually make 12 items?--Kiltan 16:40, 11 June 2006 (CDT)

  • Actually, that is the eleventh (assuming you count the white pixel.) There are 3 potions, 3 pieces of the outfit, shield, bait, pie, key, and the white pixel.--Terion 13:19, 20 July 2006 (CDT)

Random Note, possibly TOO HOT FOR TV BLAND FOR WIKI

  • A bit coincidental, but ironically enough, the two items to appear in the gift shop after a player's 11th ascension are the stuffed stab bat and the Kevlar balloon. The Kevlar balloon is an appropriate descriptor of many Wiki contributors' mindsets - that of a spade player - whereas the stab bat has a trophy associated with its represented familiar. Probably not solid enough of a claim to put into the main page, but still... suspiciousssss...--Katarani 07:43, 4 August 2006 (CDT)

New one!

I think I found one that's not listed here. In the clan admin thing, in the description for the degrees it says "For example, if you are a degree 10 rank, and have the permission to boot someone from your clan, you can boot anyone with a degree of 9 or lower, but not anyone with a rank of 11 or more. (It's ridiculous.)" --Santasassassin 11:35, 11 April 2007 (CDT)

Bans

From what I've heard in the chat, the forever ban is not actually forever, it is in reality 4015 days long.

That's equivalent to exactly 11 years. Anyone think this should be added?--Ruoivas 13:34, 19 July 2007 (CDT)

Not "exactly" 11 years. It's only exact if you ignore leap days and assume a year is exactly 365 days, instead of approx. 365.25 days. - Furrykef 23:50, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

11 challenges for the NS quest

What exactly are these 11 challenges? I can come up with a list, but it doesn't have 11 entries:

  • The 3 Gates
  • Giant Mirror
  • The Key Puzzle (at least 7 distinct steps)
  • The Hedge Maze (minimum 3 adventures)
  • The 6 Tower Monsters
  • The Door Puzzle
  • Deflect Energy Beam (fairly minor)
  • Defeat Your Own Shadow
  • The Sorceress's Giant Familiars

What would the other two be? And shouldn't be actually be indicating these on the page so people know exactly what they are? --Quietust (t|c) 12:47, 5 October 2007 (CDT)

  • I think when whoever did that count they counted the familiars as two challenges and the key puzzle as two since you have to get the keys to the doors and then you have to use different items with the statues. I may be wrong on this but I thought I saw that somewhere on the wiki. --Chunky_boo 12:56, 5 October 2007 (CDT)
  • after i made the revert, i wondered exactly how you could count it to make 11.
  1. gates
  2. mirror
  3. mariachis
  4. maze
  5. tower1
  6. tower2
  7. tower3
  8. tower4
  9. tower5
  10. tower6
  11. lair
  • or
  1. gates
  2. mirror
  3. keys
  4. odor
  5. mariachis
  6. maze
  7. tower
  8. door code
  9. beam
  10. shadow
  11. familiars
  • these are a bit strained, though. ho hum. LordHorst was still wrong, howsoever. --Evilkolbot 13:43, 5 October 2007 (CDT)

Set an Open Course for the Number Eleven

Set an Open Course for the Virgin Booty, in the map, displays several instances of 11.

  • 242x100 map. 242, as mentioned with the M-242, is 11*11*2.
  • The Kingdom occupies an 11x11 region starting at (11,11)
  • There are 11 Rainbow pearl/sand coordinates

Black Picnic Baskets

I used 13 Black Picnic Baskets today, and acquired 11 of two different items (Black Pudding and Black Forest Ham) and nowhere was the regular ridiculous statement. I seem to remember getting a bunch of Dungeon of Doom potions and getting the 11 message, though I have not confirmed this. Can anyone check me on this and see if this is unique to the Black Picnic Basket?--Thebigbrainiac 11:34, 30 May 2008 (CDT)

Update: Today I checked, and receiving 11 of a bang potion from multi-using large boxes does not spawn a "Ridiculous..." message.--Thebigbrainiac 12:44, 4 June 2008 (CDT)

  • Maybe the Black Picnic Basket and Boxen randomly generate a list of items to give with no number checking?--Erishiku 22:26, 4 June 2008 (CDT)

I have gotten to the end of this one. I was using Mafia, and the way mafia handles multiple items like this could eliminate the 11 message. That is all. --Thebigbrainiac 01:22, 1 July 2008 (CDT)

Actually, I'm fairly sure I remember using some baskets awhile ago and having no 11 message when I got 11 of an item, and I never use mafia or any scripts. I think Erishiku is on to the right idea. It at best checks for a special message each time in generates a basket's contents, but not after it generates them all. Which is to say, you never actually got 11 of the item AT ONCE, just in sequence. And there's nothing special about getting 11 in sequence. --Flargen 02:36, 1 July 2008 (CDT)
I guess either I was misremembering, or this has since been fixed. Just got 11 hams from 17 baskets and got the extra message. --Flargen 20:10, 13 July 2008 (CDT)

blank inventory space

I don't know if it's true for anyone else at the moment, but the eleventh spot in my ranged weapons says "This space left obnoxiously blank." right now. -Dracaneana 15:47, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

  • That's a result of the recent AJAXification of the inventory pages. One of the glitches they said are still present and probably won't be dealt with until after Crimbo. --Flargen 15:48, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Holy freakin' crap

"That's ridiculous. It's not even funny," has 11 syllables. --Raijinili 21:12, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Ridiculous. Not even funny

  • Russia has only 9 time zones now. That's ridiculous. It's not even funny. --CG1:t,c,e 06:32, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
  • Irrelevant. The song is about the USSR, not Russia. The USSR ceased to exist in 1991. --Bale 06:35, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

CRIMBCO?

The [CRIMBCO Gift Shop] has 11 non-covert items in it. --Boometh 05:17, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
