Extinctionist trophy

Extinctionist:

I have the image location, but i don't know how to add it correctly. The location is you_were_devoutly_aligned.gif, and you can view it in ricuse7's profile.--Gondall 11:33, 13 July 2007 (CDT)Gondall

I already added the image. No need. That's how I got it on the wiki, click on the pic of it here to see the link. EliteJeff 11:34, 13 July 2007 (CDT)
  • This is a nethack related trophy. Extinctionist is a nethack style. The image shows a player with an alter and a dragon. The trophy name is also from nethack. The forum thread says can be earned by farmingThe Dungeons of Doom. --Crowther 12:47, 13 July 2007 (CDT)
    • I very strongly suspect this trophy is earned by killing 120 of each monster in the Dungeons of Doom, the very definition of extinction in NetHack. --Quietust (t|c) 13:10, 13 July 2007 (CDT)
      • Just noticed another rather amusing detail in the image - not only is that the player, a dragon, and aan altar (at which to sacrifice the dragon) but it's also surrounded by a boulder fort, a very popular technique used by extinctionists to force their prey to approach the player by stepping onto the altar (for easy corpse sacrificing). --Quietust (t|c) 13:24, 13 July 2007 (CDT)

Is there any chance spookyraven's altar has anything to do with this? Somehow provide a way to cast genocide on a particular monster until all the monsters have been slaughtered? --CluckyB 22:18, 13 July 2007 (CDT)

  • That's not how scrolls of genocide work in NetHack - when you read a scroll and specify a monster name, all instances of that monster are immediately erased from existance and will never appear again (for the remainder of the game). Besides, using scrolls of genocide is sort of cheating - a proper extinctionist kills everything without resorting to mass genocide (except maybe for genociding a few of the extremely dangerous monsters, such as mind flayers). --Quietust (t|c) 22:36, 13 July 2007 (CDT)

If it's just flat-out killing each monster in the KoL version of DoD 120 time, that would mean 600 combats. (not Counting the Master of Thieves) plus non-combats. I'm curious as to whether the queue skips a monster once you have fought it 120 times; as this is how it works in Nethack.--Andy00 06:53, 14 July 2007 (CDT)

  • Does anybody know if this is single ascension or not? --O 3 141592 07:48, 14 July 2007 (CDT)
    • I'm not too sure, but I suspect that it is. If a player kills all the monsters, he only has the mimic and the non-combat adventures left, which will mean that he WILL NOT be able to ascend hardcore again if he needs to use DoD potions at the 3 gates. This will mean that he wasted all the time before (13 levels) and I bet that the DevTeam will not want this to happen.

The guesses appear to be correct. I auto-adventured for three days there, about 700 turns in total. It was there for me today. --Robotfrog 10:42, 15 July 2007 (CDT)

  • Yep. There are 5 monsters, multiplied by 120 is a minimum 600 adventures. I'd say it's safe to change the article now. --sl1me 21:46, 15 July 2007 (CDT)

So if you clear out all the monsters in the DoD, does that mean you can not get "6 worthless pieces of yellow glass from kobolds in The Dungeons of Doom" from the Bounty-Hunter Hunter? Or do the kobolds magically reappear for 6 adventures? --duckyguy 13:08 17 July 2007 (PST)

is there a way to count the number of DoD monsters defeated so far? --Stevetek 00:31, 10 August 2007 (CDT)

  • Yes. It's keeping track for yourself. --TechSmurf 01:00, 10 August 2007 (CDT)

All in a single run? --Davydd 00:03, 17 August 2007 (CDT)

  • Yes. --J12601 00:09, 17 August 2007 (CDT)

Possibly 121 of each monster?

The day this trophy was 'discovered', I put a multi on the DoD and started burning turns there. Here was my encounter data

Ineligible for the trophy with the following Blob - 140, K - 120, Mind - 134, Q - 122, B - 122

Ran 10 more turns, and was eligible with: Blob - 143, K - 122, Mind - 135, Q - 124, B - 124

Now of course since I ran the entire thing in mafia, some fluke may have happened and I may have lost to a kobold in there or gotten misreported data, but I'd think that it's actually 121 of each monster. 11x11 seems a very apropos twist on the 120 from nethack. --J12601 23:28, 16 July 2007 (CDT)

Ahh.. so it sounds like killing 120 of the monsters DOES NOT stop them from coming? That is a good thing. People panicing about 'OMG how will I get bang potions' can relax. --Terry 16:28, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

  • Yep. I just got mine, and my killer bee count was down by about 10 or so than the others, so I had to fight about 40 extra fights because I kept running into acid blobs and mind flayers. --OMGWTFLOL 08:22, 19 July 2007 (CDT)

Single run

  • i find it extremely unlikely that the count for this trophy would span ascensions. pretty nearly every ascender would get the trophy in the course of normal play if that were the case. i've been known to be wrong before, but please provide evidence before making this assertion again. --Evilkolbot 07:50, 27 October 2007 (CDT)
    • i was under the impression, that the question was answered. And if not, then... hell, i don't know, maybe you should delete the "wrong" note too? --Gen 07:55, 27 October 2007 (CDT)
      • answered by whom and where? if you have evidence, post it. --Evilkolbot 08:04, 27 October 2007 (CDT)
    • god, my english isn't that hard to understand, is it? That note in the article -> Can be earned by killing monsters in the Dungeons of Doom over multiple ascensions.

I have no idea, who wrote it or why, but i thought, it answered the question on top. If that isn't the case, then the note should be removed, i think. --Gen 15:47, 27 October 2007 (CDT)

  • not a convincing note. no proof given, and one and only one edit for the originator. sorry if i seemed rude. --Evilkolbot 16:49, 27 October 2007 (CDT)

(Free) Runaways increment counter?

After using Mayfly Bait to skip just about every encounter of Killer Bees this ascension, I've qualified for the trophy. Would prefer it for somebody else to check it out before we change the trophy pages. --BlanketThief 05:09, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
