Talk:Fake hand

From A KoL Wiki

okay, wait, what does this actually do? anyone tried it? it gives you an extra off hand slot but whatever you put in it suffers a -1? --Pastamancer5 23:48, 31 March 2006 (CST)

Like all the items of Summon Hilarious Objects, it's basically worthless. It gives you an extra off-hand slot, but takes up the off-hand slot itself; plus it gives you -1 melee damage. --Gothhenge 00:12, 1 April 2006 (CST)

Can you use the off-hand slot to hold another fake hand, leading to an endless loop? stannius 01:45, 1 April 2006 (CST)

  • Theoretically yes, but I don't have any fake hands to try this. --Gothhenge 11:13, 1 April 2006 (CST)

It's not zappable, and I assume other items aren't too --Bigcalm 04:00, 1 April 2006 (CST)

Hypothetically, the fact that this enchantment exists at all is interesting- Imagine if this enchantment was on, say, an accessory? Or an offhand item that did somethign useful?--Rikmach 11:32, 1 April 2006 (CST)

Based on how it appears to be coded, if it was on an accessory it would have to be "+1 accessory slot". Basically, it's not actually an off-hand item, it equips in the special "fakehand" slot. I'm guessing that instead of storing the equipment in the usual way (storing an item ID for each slot) it just has a counter for how many fake hands you have equipped. Actually coding a +1 offhand on an accessory would take an insane amount of coding - it's basically what they'd need to do to make the Special Sauce Glove a 1-handed-staff enchantment... and they've been putting that off for ages because it's too complicated. It's certainly too much work for an April Fool's day joke. Phlip 17:56, 1 April 2006 (CST)

Is it possible that the fake hand, if it doesn't hold anything, could act as a third hand for items such as the Ridiculously overelaborate ninja weapon? I'm not exactly sure how to go about testing it, but it seems like it might be true. --Skid 19:44, 1 April 2006 (CST)

If thinking about the extra off-hand slots is too complicated, think of it as equipment that simply has -1 melee damage and doesn't take up an equipment slot. So yes, you can wear it and a 2-handed or 3-handed weapon, but you can't wear it, a 2- or 3- handed weapon, and an off-hand. There's no difference between 2-handed and 3-handed weapons in the mechanics. Phlip 20:26, 1 April 2006 (CST)

This item can also be used in the Star Starfish MP trick. What does that mean? I am curious! --Spamantha 00:22, 15 May 2006 (CDT)

It Means that Starfishers reduce their own damage with this so they can better starfish for MP --El taco 21:22, 27 September 2007 (CDT)

Naughty Sorceress

I'm wondering, if the fake hand reduces your melee for each hand you have equipped, and if the Naughty Sorceress is leveled to your stats, if you reduced your melee to 0 with enough fake hands, will the NS be dealing 0 damage to you? I haven't been able to try this, maybe someone could help.

  • I think she scales with muscle, mysticaliy, and moxie. When I fight her, I usually try to maximize melee bonuses because I know she doesn't level with that. As far as I can tell, she never scaled with melee damage modifiers.--Dehstil 14:16, 29 May 2006 (CDT)

References

The first reference seems to be wrong. Its link "frequently in popular culture" is invalid as the section "References in popular culture" doesn't exist on the article to which it links.

The Wikipedia aricle for the music video specified in the second link DOES contain an "In popular culture" section and uses the correct spelling of "Cochese" and, more telling, is the default article if you search WP for "Cochese".

I had never heard the name "Cochese" until a few minutes ago so I don't know for certain, but it seems to me that the first reference is wrong and needs to be removed. --Kitsunegami 07:26, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

  • Step with me into the wayback machine and take a look at how that Wikipedia article looked like when that reference was added.--Toffile 15:52, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
