This table the wonderous creation of NewZorkBat! Congratulate him! --R3nh03k 15:13, 17 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)

  • ^ "Congratulate her", please ;)
Thanks for the congrats. I've been thinking it'd probably be handy if the table also showed the relative intensity or quality of the familiars' abilities, if that's possible. Maybe only like "--", "-", "o", "+", "++"; I think it makes sense at least for damage type familiars. I don't have enough experience with different familiars though to fill in that kind of information. But I'd be happy if someone did. If it can be done. --NewZorkBat 09:35, 21 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)

Yeah, nice work. However, there seems to be too much white. --Rai 05:05, 17 March 2006 (CST)

hey, the sweet nutcracker doesn't delevel, does it? just attacks like a pickle, and buffs

...If hte hobo Mimics a starfish when given booze, shouldn't it also damage foes?--Rikmach 15:54, 2 May 2006 (CDT)

Just for fun...

Instead of the X when the familiar has the skill, why not a smiley face like this:? Eh, maybe not. Looks stupid.--Someone Else 07:01, 23 May 2006 (CDT)

It's a good idea to use graphic icons for common symbols, such as a HP heart for HP restorers, etc. Trying it out.

Confusion

I think there's some confusion between the difference of "Makes monsters drop meat" and "Gives you meat during battle". We should seperate those two, right?--Someone Else 05:56, 28 May 2006 (CDT)

That would be a good idea... if only I was able to not screw up things in wikis.--Kewangji 09:12, 8 February 2007 (CST)

A Few Changes

So I went through and modified the familiar table in the following ways (I hope this was okay!):

  • The Whirling Maple Leaf's HP restoration wasn't mentioned, so I added it.
  • I updated the Personal Raincloud to look a little bit more like the Killer Bee (since it only gives to one substat at a time, like the Bee - only the Bee only ever chooses muscle)
  • I gave the Toothsome Rock the same "special ability" message as the Pet Rock.
  • I noted that the Scary Death Orb only does spooky damage to your opponent, not to yourself (at least, as of my last experience with it)
  • I added the damage type for the Grue and Feather Boa Constrictor, as they was missing (and all the other familiars that do elemental damage had theirs mentioned; barring the Penguin, which is too complex to mention in a little box)
  • I normalized the Howling Balloon Monkey's messages - only one mentioned "after 10 weight"
  • I changed the Spirit Hobo's description to look more like the Star Starfish it is imitating.
  • Finally, I updated the NPZR, Cocoabo, Feather Boa Constrictor, Fuzzy Dice, and Hannukimbo Dreidl to explain that their "increase meat drops" ability is more a "steals meat" ability.

When the abilities trigger should probably be put in there. Damages enemy and increased items drops might be obvious but things like HP/MP restore aren't obvious when they trigger from the thingie. Brion thenotgiant

Relevance?

So...is this page worth keeping around? It's got a few more familiars to be thrown into it, and it's already a huge ugly mass as is. If we're going to keep it, should we split it up into a couple of pages? Or can anyone think of a more productive formatting? Compare to Familiars by type. --Flargen 10:58, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

  • I think it'd be sort of useful as a "quick reference," compared to the more detailed presentation in Fams by Type. Maybe make it sortable like the Mad Hatrack page? --BagatelleT/C 22:37, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
    • seconded (four years, eh?). the repetition of the headers should be got rid of, too. --Evilkolbot 13:40, 15 May 2012 (CEST)

Update?

- Can someone add the purse rat? - AvangionQ / May 8th, 2009. - Can someone add the three new turtle familiars, as well as the Baby Sandworm? - AvangionQ / June 11th, 2009.

Requested Clarification

Someone updated the content request to state:

"Volley and Sombrero familiars should be noted for different stat gain formulas under special abilities"

Here's my proposal:

Volley-types: "...fixed formula"

Sombrero-types: "...by ML"

thoughts?

--Lxndr 17:57, 22 August 2012 (CEST)

  • The easiest solution might be to simply put in the formula like here, since there are some almost volleyball/sombrero-familiars out there. --Yatsufusa 23:17, 22 August 2012 (CEST)

What Did You Do Ray, What Did You Do?!

Okay, so based on some of the past discussion, I decided to make the page much more similar to other tables and give it sorting ability. I also felt for an overview of abilities, it was much too detailed. I kept the abilities just either X or E (and debated using C to indicate able to do something only under certain conditions). I know there will always be a desire to have more information here, but I think for the long run, it needs to be kept simple.

I did also add item drops to the Gelatinous Cubeling. I could see having two more columns (Drops Items and Works Underwater). --Foggy (talk) 22:11, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

  • Some comments:
  1. Drops items should be a column, but it doesn't have to list specifics.
  2. Breathes underwater maybe. Maybe color code instead for that?
  3. I'd argue that the "Hurts You" column should be extended to "Hinders You" and throw in O.A.F. and Black Cat.
  4. Shouldn't Disembodied Hand and Comma Chameleon have a bunch of "E" markers?

Done, done, done, and done. Thanks for the feedback.--Foggy (talk) 16:02, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
