Ex Terra Bonus

According to Google Translate, "Ex Terra Bonus" is Latin for "From the Good Earth". Which is sort of interesting, but not really ha-ha funny, so I wonder if there's something more to that. --Johnny Treehugger 20:58, 12 August 2011 (CEST)

  • it's thirty-odd years since i did any latin, but a little googling confirms my suspicions. adjectives in latin must agree in case, number and gender with their nouns and nouns must follow the case of their preposition. so, "ex terra" is "from the earth" because "ex" takes the ablative so terra, first declension, is correct. "bonus" is masculine, singular, and nominative, though, so can't refer to terra. it also should precede its noun. so, being nominative, that makes it a candidate for the subject of the sentence. which would make this "good (thing) from the earth." simple!
  • skully's quite proud of the fact he knows nothing about languages. riff, on the other hand, is usually quite careful. either way, this needs explaining. ROMANES EUNT DOMUS! --Evilkolbot 21:25, 12 August 2011 (CEST)
  • It reads like "Extra Bonus" to me. Maybe I'm just being weird, though. --Laparapa 03:20, 17 November 2011 (CET)
