- A fierce, stinging, relentless rain began to fall upon the crew, and they shielded their eyes and looked to the heavens. "Get down below, ye gobsmacked idiots!" the captain shouted, for the rain was not rain at all! It was the hungry drool of a dozen dozen serpent's heads, all springing forth from a single serpent's body: the Hydra.

Bright sun, fresh gale NNE. After a week spent becalmed, slowly succumbing to the madness of sun and water and thirst, a fresh wind sprang up and we hoisted the sales with glee in our hearts. Yeoman Hammill, full of joy, climbed to the top of the Crow's Nest and laughed until we thought he might have taken leave of his senses.

The calm surface of the lukewarm sea was disturbed until it became a roiling whirlpool that threatened to suck the entire ship down to Mike Nesmith's locker.
