Talk:Flange (item)
So, I spent a hell of a lot of adventures at the Thugnerdome trying to get a flange to drop with no success. I then invested in the Powers of Observatiogn skill and got a flange on my 3rd adventure at the 'Dome. This leads to the following conjecture:
Conjecture: Powers of Observatiogn is required to receive flange drops.
Does anybody have evidence to confirm or refute this conjecture?

- Not required, but every little boost to the drop rate is helpful. --Zaku 19:37, 10 Nov 2005 (MST)
- Actually that's a logical fallacy:
- You said:
- (If no Observatiogn then no key) AND (If have Observatiogn then get key) THEREFORE (Get key if and only if Observatiogn)
- (!O -> !K) & (O -> K) ∴ (O <-> K)
- Which is not true (Truth Table (or proof/work) it out if you want)
- !O -> K (If no Observatiogn then key) is never proved false... but it's never proven true either. ;-)
- Boy howdy that was fun. :-P
I feel that you have mistranslated my English into symbolic logic. In particular, I never made the (O -> K) statement, and I would argue that it's clearly false- my first two adventures after acquiring Powers of Observatiogn, where I did not receive flanges, demonstrate that O is not sufficient for F. In fact, I didn't mention keys at all here. I'll assume you meant F.
So to sum up, my conjecture was Powers of Observatiogn is necessary but insufficient requirement to get a flange. (F -> O)
Thanks for paying close attention, though. -jqp 23:47, 10 Nov 2005 (EST)
- Eh, I didn't really care that much, I was bored and didn't feel like doing anyhting nearly constructive, heh ;-) --JRSiebz (☎|§) 22:22, 10 Nov 2005 (MST)
I can't believe you bothered to translate that into symbolic logic, that is both impressive and depressing at the same time. --Veistran 01:24, 11 Nov 2005 (MST)
Indeed. Well, I managed to get the flange without Obvervatiogn--took me forever, mind you, even with a 23-pound gravy fairy, the Packrat sign, and Baron von Ratsworth's monocle, but it certainly is possible. It just must have a lower drop rate than the other items, which is stupid. --Zarr 15:53, 18 November 2005 (Central Standard Time)
I have also gotten a Flange without Obvervatiogn, but that's because I'm a really lucky person. After getting Obvervatiogn, my Flange drop rate increased significantly. I also have a heavy Stinky Gravey Fairy, a Jekllin Hide Belt, and a Mr. Accessory Jr, and it stills takes a while to get one. -Chish
Well, I spent two months in hardcore with a 20 lbs. Baby Gravy Fairy, no flange. Later, decided to go to the treasury. Yay! 5000 meat. Got Powers of Observatiogn skill from Gnorman, and dropped on the first go. I hear that people have been getting it without the skill, but here's my conclusion: I have very bad luck. or Powers of Observatiogn specially ups the flange's drops. And maybe even the key. Haven't got one yet, though.
- Given people seem to very rarely find it with Observatiogn, I'm willing to bet that it does specifically enhance flanges moreso than other items, though it is possible to get it without Observatiogn. Both are part of the Gnomads' camp. This is simply a hypothesis, though, since no real evidence backs things up. --Missingno 14:51, 27 November 2006 (CST)
