I certainly haven't done the level of spading that you have, but I was getting equal damage with hot and cold spells when I was under the influence of Frozen Shoulders.
- I've added Serious Hot resist as an effect. This was determined by still having the effect on after beating the NS. I then viewed my character sheet and saw Modest hot protection listed. As for the damage increasing part of the effect, I was not able to confirm anything happening when casting low level spells. I didn't try Saucegeyser though. --Prestige 06:20, 22 July 2007 (CDT)
- OK, I did some casual testing, casting geyser with and without this effect. After 9 casts each, my geyser without the effect averaged 139.7 dmg, while with the effect it averaged 148.8. And yeah, with the effect I was regularly getting more damage than I should have, given my current +spell damage effects. I'm thinking it's a percentage-based bonus (let's say 5%), and that would explain why it was not particularly noticeable with low-level spells. --Prestige 06:48, 22 July 2007 (CDT)
See Talk:Burning Ears. It's probably not percentage-based, or it would do more damage with all spells.--CG1:t,c,e 18:37, 25 September 2007 (CDT)
To acquire this effect, you have to increase spell damage to go over the damage cap. however, no matter how much you increase spell damage, the damage you give will still be the same due to said cap. That's why you didn't see anything with other spells: your bonus spell damage used to get this effect reached the damage cap, so you wouldn't be able to see any noticeable changes. --CG1:t,c,e 11:28, 22 July 2007 (CDT)
- It would make more sense to me if it were a percentage-based increase, as percentage-based increases are applied after the cap, and would therefore benefit all spells, not just higher-level ones. Well, more in-depth spading will reveal the answer. --Prestige 17:11, 22 July 2007 (CDT)
I sat down and did some testing. Using Wave of Sauce's 25 cap to test, here are the cases of interest:
- frozen shoulders + Intrinsic Spiciness (10) + knob goblin spatula (4) + cold wave = no burst, therefore 14+fs<=25
- frozen shoulders + spiciness (10) + jack flapper (5) + cold wave = burst; along with above, this implies 15+fs=26; fs=11
- frozen shoulders + spiciness (10) + jack flapper + hot wave = no burst
- frozen shoulders + spiciness (10) + woven baling wire bracelets (15) + hot wave = no burst
So this implies that Frozen Shoulders gives +11 (not even funny) damage, but only to cold spells. I'll assume Burning Ears has a mechanic-analogue. --Bagatelle 20:06, 13 April 2008 (CDT)
