Talk:Get Me Off This Crazy Thing!
Initiative speculation
Needs more testing, but from what I noticed, while I was wearing a jet pack, no monster won initiative. --Roman-the-evil 00:35, 7 December 2006 (CST)
Correction: encountered a monster who did win intiative. Most likely this effect just gives a high initiative boost.--Roman-the-evil 00:48, 7 December 2006 (CST)
Not only have I been getting iniative over robot elves (and Rudolph), but they seem to hit me a lot less often. Maybe.--Cyferpunk 01:13, 7 December 2006 (CST)
I've noticed I get the jump very often against crimbo monsters without the jet pack, and the only +init skill I have is Overdeveloped Sense of Preservation. --Orangeperson 14:31, 8 December 2006 (CST)
One thing I noticed is that even after unequipping the jet pack, and logging off, the effect is still intact. Potential bug perhaps? --Corak
- I have the exact same bug going on. I've heard of others. (Psst, don't forget to sign your posts) --Antipode 13:57, 8 December 2006 (CST)
I dont think it is intiative that it boosts. It didnt change anything for me, monsters get jump on me as often as before. Maybe a mocie boost? I am thinking of the description that say that you are cool enough to have a jet pack. I think that when word cool is in a dexcription it often (I say often) affect moxie. (Oh and I want little help. What am I supposed to write in my sign. Only my name? whell atleast I can say my nick both here and in KoL is Feha)
A moxie boost should be easy enough to test. hello feha, you need to press the button that looks ilke a signature (2nd to the end, before the line, after the crossed out w) and itll give a bunch of characters. thats your sig. --Deranged Cat 19:14, 8 December 2006 (CST)
Hmm. The initiative boost might not be that high. A Quiet Healer just got the jump on me with this, overdeveloped, and a dagon necklace, and only +20 ML. Seems kinda weird. --Zarr 12:49, 10 December 2006 (CST)
- According to the HCOxygenation guide, Q Healer has 80 init. But they're getting the jump on me with a total of +65% initiative gear, in addition to the jetpack. So I think "high initiative boost" is probably a misnomer. If the formulas and init data are correct, it can't give more than a +14% boost. If it's that low, and has the caveat of one equip only, it's almost definately doing something else.--Starwed 20:50, 19 December 2006 (CST)
Has anyone done any actual testing of the initiative boost? I'm pretty sure the Crimbo monsters lose the jump often.
Also, "You may only equip one of these at a time" may help. --Orangeperson 16:32, 11 December 2006 (CST)
- It's already there - see toy jet pack. --Quietust (t|c) 16:57, 11 December 2006 (CST)
I meant that it might help to figure out what the effect is.--Orangeperson 18:20, 17 December 2006 (CST)
I equipped it while doing the hole in the sky, having no other initiative skill/items on...the only thing I can get a jump on is the astronomer, everything else gets first hit on me. Atriarch 12:55, 24 December 2006 (CST)
I think the effect may have fluctuating initiative boosts and decreases, because I sometimes get jumped by monsters that have lower initiative than I do when the jet pack is equipped.--Codename:Dirtbag 18:28, 11 January 2007 (CST)
Spading confirms the jet pack does not boost initiative. —Dentarthurdent(T,C) 21:32, 1 March 2007 (CST)
Other speculation
Not sure whether this can be attributed to the jet pack, but I fought the sorceress while I had it equipped, and I only failed to finish my action (ie. hit her, use an item) twice in the whole battle (thirty rounds, give or take). Can somebody else check this out? --His Noodleyness 02:09 December 13, 2006 (CST)
I think I'm getting hit for more damage with the jetpack on. I was adventuring at the peak as a sauceror, and getting hit for almost all my hp by the monsters. Once my myst was high enough, I put the jetpack on thinking that the initiative boost would be a godsend. Although I might have been winning init more often, when the monsters hit me it would be for more than my max HP. Took the jetpack off, and they're doing about 10hp less than my max. Since I'm in HCO, I didn't stick around to get more than a couple of datapoints, but it seemed suspicious. --Starwed 04:21, 12 December 2006 (CST)
- nm, I think I figured out what was going on. The sudden shift in attack damage was almost definitely just a coincidence; although I had enough cold resistance to take the elemental attacks, physical attacks still kill me. And it just happened the only physical attacks at first where while using the jetpack. --Starwed 04:30, 12 December 2006 (CST)
Is there any possibility it doesn't actually do anything?--Joel 20:45, 17 July 2007 (CDT)
Has everyone given up on spading this one out? --FFiXMaster 11:44, 28 February 2008 (CST)
other ideas
I got an idea. Let's ask Jick on the next radio show. Maybe he'll throw us a bone. --Lemon-claw 16:29, 28 February 2008 (CST)
He confirmed that this effect does nothing on the 02/28/08 radio show and was just meant as a joke--The duke of doi tung 06:18, 29 February 2008 (CST)
Reference
I don't believe the Jetsons reference is correct. It's correct factually, but I doubt it's the source of the joke. --DataVortex 19:06, 8 December 2006 (CST)
- Google for "Get me off this crazy thing!" with quotes. Seventeen pages of the same line, all referencing Jetsons. It's pretty much an american pop culture icon. --Gedrean 19:58, 8 December 2006 (CST)
The quote is from "So I Married an Axe Murderer." It's from his poetry performance, "Jane, get me off of this crazy thing....called life." --Teegers (talk) 22:34, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
