  • Note: After 1037 encounters with grave robers, not a single grave robbing shovel was recorded by my program. Either this represents an error in the program or they no longer drop these. Can someone confirm, please?--Yiab 09:04, 30 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)
  • I've gotten a bunch of grave robbing shovels, not sure how many encounters, but not nearly enough for data purposes, just that I've gotten a few, from a bunch of encounters. Pthalo 13:20, 16 July 2006 (CDT)

Is it possible that, with coming of the Wizard of Ego quest, the shovel has become a one-time 100 drop? I've tried getting the shovel in three runs now, and I got it first time in all three. --Acdr 05:03, 3 February 2007 (CST)

I tried it with my multis. It's not a one-time 100 drop. I'm sure of it. The reason you got the shovel is most likely because of a higher item drop rate, and you got lucky and got it the first time each time. Trying it only three times is not enough... try doing it a couple more times next time...--Coolguy00001 15:04, 3 February 2007 (CST)

  • Actually, my point would be that it's only a sure drop if you don't have a shovel yet... It would indeed be the first time I see such a mechanism in the game, but I just hit the quest again and again, I got a shovel on the first time I encountered a grave rober. Too bad my four-day runs aren't really proper enough for actual spading, but with only a measly 20% item boost, one may never know...--Acdr 15:53, 6 February 2007 (CST)
    • I've seen this twice in Hardcore as well, where I don't have any item drop boosting skills. In each instance, after I got A Grave Mistake, I almost immediately encountered a grave rober (not sure about the first time, but the 2nd time it was the very next adventure) and got a shovel upon defeating it. It's very likely he's been given a conditional guaranteed drop, so as to prevent RNG screwage from making the quest take several days. --Quietust (t|c) 16:01, 6 February 2007 (CST)
    • Well, if we're reporting anecdotal evidence here, I have a counterexample from my current run. Took me 3 robers after seeing the Grave Mistake before I got a shovel. --Hellion 16:09, 6 February 2007 (CST)
      • Jick just stated on today's radio show that the Fernswarthy guild quest does increase the chance of the grave rober dropping a shovel. Apparently not to 100%, but certainly higher than normal. --Quietust (t|c) 14:23, 8 February 2007 (CST)
      • Interestingly, they said the droprate was raised "when you have the quest." Makes you wonder whether anything else does/will drop that way. --Prestige 14:35, 8 February 2007 (CST)
  • From http://forums.kingdomofloathing.com/viewtopic.php?t=76450&start=420 - "Riff said it was ok for me to say this: The shovel has a base drop rate of 50%. If you are running 100% drop rate modifiers, it's an auto-drop. " --Shagie 18:19, 15 February 2007 (CST)
    • It's only that high during the quest, as far as I can see. When you encounter them after completing it, the drop rate still seems to the same old ~8% or so - just like they said on the radio show. --Andemon 04:21, 19 February 2007 (CST)

I tried using the He-Boulder's major yellow ray on the grave rober (with the quest active), but didn't get the shovel. (I did get all other drops.) Is the shovel treated as a a conditional drop during the quest? --Drakono82 22:16, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Confirmed this, Drakon. Will update the page accordingly. --maharito 16:37, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Initiative

Initiative is at least 38--Larryboy 10:34, 3 August 2008 (CDT)

Seems to have significantly higher initiative than the other monsters in this area. Got the jump on me both times when I had Lust (and not Sloth) - none of the other Cemetary monsters did.
