Talk:Hedge maze puzzle
Is it true that having effects that increase the likelihood of non-combat adventures makes it less likely that the hedge maze puzzle will be stolen when used? Normally it gets stolen a few times, but I just did it with +10% non-combat and it got stolen only once the entire time. If this is the case and not just a random bit of luck, it should be added here or on the ascension strategy page or somewhere. Sholtar 21:44, 1 October 2006 (CDT)
Sort of an odd note, but is it worth mentioning you can have more than one in your inventory at once? --Magas 10:22, 30 January 2007 (CST)
- I'm quite sure you can have as many as you want.
Speaking of chances, has anybody spaded the exact chances of having it stolen, or how many it takes on average to complete the maze? I'm sure somebody out there has been killing them for ages to get the lvl30 trophy, and has a ton of them to test out. --Spaz102
Someone should really replace the [graphic] to the actual combinations that you can get with the hedge maze. --Xsmootx 00:55, 26 August 2007 (CDT)
Possible bug!
- please ignore.. and delete.. i made a mistake and this is not true*
I'm at the maze stage now and have 3 maps in my inventory. I have configured my map to get to the key.. but when i try to enter the maze for the key i just get another golem fight!
The map is an odd one to be fair as my entrance square is an L shaped one and the key is the immediate left square.. so my map looks lke this:
^ ¬ | ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ K ¬ ¬ ^
so why cant i get the key?--Nasher 09:45, 4 January 2008 (CST)
Visually Impaired Puzzle
The puzzle has a lot of text in it to help a visually impaired player.
- NOTICE TO THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED: This puzzle has changed with NS-13. The layout is now random each run, and the entrances and exits can be in different spaces.
- Puzzle description: This puzzle is a 3 by 3 grid. The pieces are arranged left to right, top to bottom.
- The exit of the hedge maze is accessible when the <position> Tile can exit north.
- The entrance to this hedge maze is accessible when the <position> Tile can exit south.
- If you are visually impaired and can think of a way to make this puzzle more accessible, please submit a bug report (using the Report Bug link) with your suggestions. We'd love to hear from you.
Additionally each tile has verbose alt-text.
- <position> Tile: 90 degree bend, exits <direction> and <direction>. This tile is the entrance tile.
- <position> Tile: 90 degree bend, exits <direction> and <direction>. This tile is the exit tile.
- <position> Tile: 90 degree bend, exits <direction> and <direction>.
- <position> Tile: Dead end, exit to the <direction>. There is a key here.
- <position> Tile: Dead end, exit to the <direction>.
- <position> Tile: Straight <direction>/<direction> passage.
Positions are hyphenated Upper/Middle/Lower-Left/Middle/Right pairs, and directions are north/south/east/west. We will want this in the article, right? --Club (#66669) (Talk) 00:46, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
Randomized per ascension
I have seen a lot of people saying that the hedge maze puzzle is randomized per ascension. This isn't really true. There are like 6 puzzles total, and you just get one of those 6 setups at random. --RoyalTonberry 00:54, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
- The game has lots of randomness that is random but only selected from a small set of choices. Unless you can predict what the maze will be before you first look at it, I'm going with "random". Same as The Barrel full of Barrels, only a few choices, but you don't know which it is until you check. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 05:32, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
- We would usually note how the random sets are selected, though.
- More importantly, I can't find a maze or even an example maze (in initial configuration) on this page or the spoiler page. Seems like a gap in the wiki. I wuz just lookin' fer how many clicks are necessary to pass. --Raijinili 09:43, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
say what now?
- You must spend at least one adventure in the maze before attempting to use the puzzle.
I don't understand what this means. did something change? how do you get a puzzle without visiting the maze? "spend a turn" implies that free runaways don't work. is that now the case? is it now three turns minimum? --Evilkolbot (talk) 07:12, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
- I don't know what they were intending, but no possible interpretation is correct -- a maze puzzle will function normally even without the sorceress quest unlocked.--Cannonfire40 (talk) 14:31, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
- What happened? I rain maned topiary golems before I hit level 13 and got puzzle boxes, I had 3/5 pieces correct for the key before I ran out of puzzles and adventured in the maze(I finished the entrance cavern before fiddling). I hit a topiary golem (as expected) and got a new puzzle box when I went to manipulate it the entire puzzle had reset itself. So either I hit a weird bug or something. I will say the puzzle was filled with white squares before I started turning them.--Chunky_boo (talk) 07:46, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
