Talk:Hobopolis Town Square

From A KoL Wiki

I was not killing hobos with 407 damage, but killing with 414 - consistently. About 200 hobos today, this held true.--KhayPrower 02:11, 26 June 2008 (CDT)

  • I am hitting just about 400 each hit, and if i hit below 400, i dont kill the hobo. Perhaps the hp of hobos is 400? Also, we should add a wiki page on hobo strategies, like what items/effects/skills to use. --Lego6245 20:12, 9 July 2008 (CDT)
    • That's really not necessary. "Hit them for 500+ damage of one type for a body part; else, don't" is the only strategy needed. Oh, and killing them before they hit you is recommended. --Flargen 20:16, 9 July 2008 (CDT)

The 'body parts' seem to drop only if you defeat the hobos with significant excess damage. For instance, I was doing ~650-700 damage per kill (two hits) against the hobos and was getting body parts every kill. When I reduced my damage so that I was just barely beating the hobos, I stopped receiving body parts.

Additionally, it appears that hobos which drop body parts will not drop nickels. MelonCollie 03:23, 17 June 2008 (CDT)

I don't know how to add a new wiki page, so I'll put the bottlecap here.

lucky bottlecap

I know what you're thinking -- not so lucky for the bottle, was it? No, wait, that's what I'm thinking. Because I'm not funny. At all.

Hobo Names

Based on a discussion with a dev team member, I am almost positive that the hobo names in Hobopolis are randomly generated. Because of that, making a new page for each hobo we encounter may be a bit superfluous. We may find it a better use of our time and effort to determine the formula for naming hobos. --Southwest 13:09, 17 June 2008 (CDT)

Hobo names seem to match the pattern [title] firstname ["nickname"] [lastname][, the occupation]. Values I have seen in Central Hobopolis are listed below: --Quietust (t|c) 15:01, 17 June 2008 (CDT)

  • We're going to need one of these lists for each area. --TechSmurf 15:02, 17 June 2008 (CDT)
    • Just the titles, nicknames, and occupations, most likely - the first and last names seem to be common between them. --Quietust (t|c) 15:03, 17 June 2008 (CDT)
      • Made a new page for all of this-- it could use some love, but I figured it would be better on its own page than in a semi-related talk page. See Hobo Names. -Southwest 15:21, 17 June 2008 (CDT)

All hobo names are now on the Hobo Names page. Please post your findings there. --Southwest 15:34, 17 June 2008 (CDT)

I'm not quite sure how to update wikis, but, i know for a fact that John hodgman, made a list of 700 hobo names from a book he wrote. He then recorded them on

http://areasofmyexpertise.com/hoboes.html

it's a awesome listen and is more then likely the inspiration for this area, if there is ever a reference section.--Slinkymcman 19:27, 23 June 2008 (CDT)

Whoah, I divine cracker'd a normal hobo to see what would happen if I removed them from the combat queue. Next adventure, I encountered the exact same hobo name. Spooky. --Missingno 23:27, 4 July 2008 (CDT)

Hobo Parts

From my experiences, 500 seemed to be the damage line between getting a skin and not getting a skin at least as far as physical damage. I just happened to be using a ranged weapon where my damage was just at the 480ish mark, and got a 500 hit that gave me a skin. Muscle attacks doing 700+ damage always gave the skin. Don't know if its the same but I assume doing 500 damage with a given element will get you the other parts. I can also confirm that I never saw a nickel drop when I was skinnin hobos.--Darkwolf 18:24, 17 June 2008 (CDT)

In addition, mixed damage attacks may not provide you with the elemental body piece you desire. Doing 570 total damage with weapon of the pastalords was netting me nickels, rather than body parts. --Valliant 01:31, 18 June 2008 (CDT)

The damage required to get a part depends on your active +ML modifiers. When running +90ML I had to do around 590 damage. When running +160ML, even 620 damage wasn't enough, but 670+ damage always got parts. --Zeviz 00:26, 10 July 2008 (CDT)

I'm confused. What I mean is that my level 19 Pastamancer deals around 300 damage with Cannon and manages to obtain Hobo Parts (I can manipulate my element with Flavor of Magic). Interestingly enough if I change equips (putting on Wand of Oscus) I will do around 500 damage with Shrunkens, but will not obtain any Hobo Parts. The only +ML that I have is the Annoy-O-Tron set at 10.--LostDreams 23:00, 10 July 2008 (CDT)

You can get the body parts for non-skin using the Weapon of the Pastalord with flavour of magic which results in physical and elemental damage provided you've already done some elemental damage of the same sort. I started off with cannon & finished off with pastalord and still got the guts when spirit of garlic was on. I presume this is because the total elemental was >500. Even though there was some physical damage in there too. Ariaflame 06:19, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Combat %

  • with cantata on i got no non-combats in over 500 adventures here. as soon as i dropped it and got some deodorant and a RoC i got three in ten adventures. 5% non-combats? --Evilkolbot 12:04, 21 June 2008 (CDT)
This seems to work with what they just said on the radio show.--Toffile 01:27, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Scarehobos

I was trying to make a scarehobo page, but at the same time some one made a scarehobo redirect:

(cur) (last) 13:25, 2008 July 7 Fxer (Talk | contribs) (Redirecting to Hobopolis Town Square#Notes)

My scarehobo page

I put it to the rest of the wiki, which would you rather have, a redirect here or a separate page? --Club (#66669) (Talk) 15:41, 7 July 2008 (CDT)

As a pastamancer I was getting hobo parts while only doing around 200 damage. If I did enough damage to kill the hobo in 2 hits I would not get a body piece, but if I didn't do enough and killed on the third hit I would get a hobo piece. --Dunsel 14:59, 8 July 2008 (CDT)

  • i'm 2-hit killing hobos, doing less than 300 damage, and still getting hobo parts. only noticed with the skins, but i can try for others too . Monsieur 20:30, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
