Talk:Hot Dog! I Mean... Door!
Opening the door seems to increase the number of fire hobos in the area. I opened the door twice and one of the barrels which had been extinguished re-lit. MelonCollie 14:02, 18 June 2008 (CDT)
I've tried to open the door at least 3 times and have just been burned by it, hench taking damage but with no meat going into my clan coffer--Wylin 19:25, 18 June 2008 (CDT)
I've tried to open the door thrice, the second time with "Very Extremely High" hot resistance (69.91%) and the third time with "Really Very Amazingly High" hot resistance (80.31%), (as a moxie class so no bonus 5%) and still got burned without any clan meat. Has anyone who got clan meat done something different? More hot resistance? Hotform? Wearing gloves of some sort? --RavenBlack 07:14, 19 June 2008 (CDT)
I was successful opening the door as a pastamancer. I would question whether it can only be opened by Mystical characters. Moxie characters do not seem able to open this door.--zanchvegas 11:25, 19 June 2008 (EST)
Nope. I'm a Disco bandit, and I was just able to open it. --Redmage13 14:18, 19 June 2008 (CDT)
Seeing as how this adventure may add hobos back to the zone, it seems likely to me that you must be on a certain image number, or else have cleared a certain number of hobos out of the zone, before the door will let you open it. I was burned the first time I encountered the door fairly early in the clearing of the area, I think I skipped it once or twice, and then after I had gotten to image 3 or so I was able to open the door the remaining five times I saw it. - It is also possible that it depends on the "area temperature" - that is, how much steam you have diverted away. --Quietust (t|c) 15:01, 19 June 2008 (CDT)
- I think this might be the case. My clanmate was able to open the door after we had diverted steam 8 or 9 times (we weren't on at the same time, so I don't know if he did his one steam diversion before or after the door). He is a high-level AT, I'm a level 14 sauceror. We're currently on the 4th image (well, image ending in 4; since they start at 0, that's actually the 5th image). Oh, and I was wearing special sauce gloves when it wouldn't open for me. --Flargen 15:34, 19 June 2008 (CDT)
I managed to open the door around image number 6. If anyone can confirm that... --StealthPenguin 09:22, 20 June 2008 (CDT)
I think I failed the door on image 5, so the steam option sounds plausible. (No guarantee that it was on image 5, don't use this as a reliable data-point.) --RavenBlack 12:08, 20 June 2008 (CDT)
I didn't notice what image number I was on when I tried to open it. But I tried as a pastamancer and failed, so I don't think it is class related. By the way: "whichchoice=207", for those keeping track of choice numbers. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 13:16, 20 June 2008 (CDT)
I was able to open the door 4 consecutive times on image 0 after a single steam diversion. --Flargen 01:05, 30 June 2008 (CDT)
I was able to successfully open the door as a level 34 Turtle Tamer with the Burnbarrel image on 1 after gently placing 16 tires and opening 2 steam valves. All of my elemental resistances are Very Extremely High. --Kitsunegami 03:28, 5 July 2008 (CDT)
- I've since opened the door 4 more times and always got the expected amount of meat. --Kitsunegami 03:47, 5 July 2008 (CDT)
As of image 8 I've diverted no steam, encountered the door 15 times, and have been burned by it every time. The only other of my clannies in Burnbarrel currently has played only 13 adventures and has not diverted any steam or encountered the door at all (as far as I know). --Dust 01:45, 8 July 2008 (CDT)
I just tried something: diverting the water from the Esplanade to Burnbarrel. I had tried to open the door about several times before this and been repeatedly burned. First attempt after diverting the water, I was able to open the door.--Foggy 10:16, 9 July 2008 (CDT)
Foggy's answer seems right - there had been six burnings in our Burnbarrel Boulevard, and then I diverted water from Exposure Esplanade and promptly got three lots of door meat. --RavenBlack 11:44, 11 July 2008 (CDT)
I note that the article says that you need to divert steam and water, but I don't think this is true. My clan has two people running around in Hobopolis atm and we have only opened up the town square and the Blvrd, i.e. no water-diverting. After having sucessfully diverted steam away for about 3 times (can't remember if it was 2 or 3) I have managed to open up the door three times. Winterbay 10:48, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's not 'and'; I was just able to open the door after a single diversion of water from EE, and no steam diverting. Changed to 'or'; I left it at "divert steam sufficient number of times" until the specific number of steams is nailed down. (I'd expect "one", but I won't be able to test it until the next run.) --Terion 01:34, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
- Verified that I could open the door after a single diversion of water from EE, and no steam diverting. Will change page appropriately. --Rpxx 17:15, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Reference?
I know how much Jick and Co. like They Might Be Giants... I was just wondering if the title of this adventure was possible reference to a song of theirs called "Hot Dog!", which is used in recent children's show 'Mickey Mouse Clubhouse', and is itself a reference to the first words spoken by Mickey Mouse ("Hog Dogs!"). Just a thought. --Gleezus 21:18, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- nice thought, but unfortunately there's no mention of mice or anything else from the song in the text. boo! --Evilkolbot 22:54, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
