Talk:Jabañero Saucesphere (effect)

From A KoL Wiki

I added an item to this talk page a while back, but it was deleted. I'd said that I was taking damage sometimes from this effect. It happened many times that day, but I haven't seen it occur since. It wasn't a bug, since it had specific combat text associated with it. Has anybody else seen this happen? --Dmagus 12:50, 9 July 2006 (CDT)

  • i looked at this skill a while back and dismissed it because it only seemed to give you back a small amount of the damage you took, roughly a quarter. which was rubbish and not worth the use of mp. it seems to have changed. --Evilkolbot 13:29, 9 July 2006 (CDT)
    • This skill has never "given back damage that you took". It has always been a "damage-shield" style, where IF the monster hits you (for however much), it also receives damage. The damage that the monster takes (1-5 HP) is given to you as MP. --Hellion 16:04, 9 July 2006 (CDT)
  • ok, so that was badly worded. what i meant was: monster hits you for twenty damage, you get back four. this seemed a bad exchange so i stopped looking. --Evilkolbot 02:39, 10 July 2006 (CDT)

Physical damage?

Do physically resistant monsters ever give more than one MP when they attack/hit through a sphere? I.e., is sphere damage considered "physical" when applying to a resistant monster? --Jonrock 01:12, 19 March 2007 (CDT)

Seems to have been nerfed. I've been taking damage from various enemies and the sphere has been ineffective 90-95% of the time.--Efot 06:19, 25 June 2007 (CDT)

NS-13 Changes

It seems that the MP return is more than a flat 1 MP per sauce spell cast. Instead, it seems to be a percentage of the original casting cost ... so casting Stream may only return 1 MP, but casting Wave of Sauce may return 6-7 MP. More analysis is needed, but it seems that the effect information on the main page is not accurate. --Gemelli 17:43, 27 June 2007 (CDT)

  • There also appears to be a chance for a "critical" of sorts. I didn't think to save the message, but it said something about "resonating" and gave me 35 MP. I'll watch for it again. --rholliday 18:04, 30 June 2007 (CDT)
  • got 26 MP returned for a wave of sauce (23MP): 'The frigid sauce speaks to the cold in the depths of your soul. "Hello, cold!" are its exact words.' Sword of statick and kickback cookbook are the obvious MP items, and I have both Jalapeno and Jabanero Saucesphere. However, most of the time I get 5-6MO for this spell with the same equipment. --Amlethus 00:53, 8 July 2007 (CDT)
  • seems to happen in conjunction with Burning Soul / Soul Freeze, returning more than casting cost

I've heard that there is an "MP-neutral" strategy around the saucespheres now, where you (as a Sauceror only, perhaps) can make back all the casting cost of a spell. What are the equipment and other effects you need to do this? --Jonrock 16:24, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

Almost Mana Neutral

(Not sure if this should go here) I never got it mana-neutral, but close (2 x Wave of Sauce + 50 HP for ca. 8MP) Basic idea:

  • use the Capsaicin Codex, so you always cast hot spells
  • have Jabañero Saucesphere (and for best effect Jalapeño Saucesphere) active
  • buff myst, and equip bonus Spell Damage items, so that you exceed the cap for Wave of Sauce (it's at around 75 damage).
  • in the first combat round, cast Wave of Sauce, and you'll get Burning Soul
  • in the second round, cast Wave of Sauce or Saucegeyser. additionally to the 1/3rd returned by the saucesphere for each spell, you get roughly the cost of the second spell returned.

Just make sure the monster lasts a second round (might need to use monster level adjusters), and you go in with enough HP/MP. HP returned is much more than current wiki entry says (or am I missing some other effect?) The second spell just needs to be a Sauceror damage spell, keep in mind that cost almost doesn't matter, but the higher level spell gives more HP! --Amlethus 18:52, 10 July 2007 (CDT)
