Talk:Jack-in-the-Box

From A KoL Wiki

Without a brass crank handle it appears to just sit there in the arena in all events.--Toffile 04:34, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

  • Wait...if it just sits there in all events, how are you supposed to get a crank handle by winning 10? Wouldn't sitting there make you never win? --Jimfromtx 17:56, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Unlike a pet rock, it doesn't just sit there. The jack-in-the-box is merely poor at every event. The way to win is to have a heavy one compete against a light house familiar in an event they both suck at. Not unlike getting a Comma Chameleon to win. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 18:49, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Just to note: the familiar action message on the third crank includes a huge clown's head (clown.gif) to the left...very much like combat item text.--Foggy 05:52, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, this does act as a volley without the crank. Was getting 5 stat, and then it acted and I got 10 stat. No other changes. Blastphemist 07:02, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

The text on the third crank mentions "dancing to some sinister calliope music you can't actually hear..."; I assume the "dancing" means fairy effect? --FoodSeeker 07:39, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

It works just fine for me without the brass crank handle while in combat.--bizjeff 13:51, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

This may be obvious to people with this already, but it's not here. The Jack-in-the-Box only activates at the end of battle, and the volleyball effect only kicks in when every third kill when it pops out. I don't know if there is also a fairy effect when dancing, but it seems likely. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 21:13, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Spading

This looks something like a 2x-2.5x volleyball, and maybe? a similiar fairy bonus, every third combat with this thing equipped. However, the 2-2.5x Volley is just a guess, and does not fit for higher weights. We have not yet tested any potential fairy aspect of it. --MindlessGames 21:47, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Well from my own attempts at spading, I adventured with it in the alley because of the low stat gains it'll be easy to tell, upon acting I went from 1 stat to 11+. This was when it was at 25-26 lbs which seems to fit for 2x volley, and I did this with and without the crank so it seems to do nothing more for it besides a +5 weight bonus. As for the thoughts about it being part fairy, that's true. Adventuring in the beanbat chamber with SCUBA gear on, I was still sometimes getting enchanted beans when it acted. It was 26 lbs which is about 60%, as far as I can tell its flat the same rate of a fairy type, because at about 37 lbs a bean sometimes didn't drop, which means it can't be 1.5x, and I think maybe not 1.25x. But whatever, just my pitch in this spading. --Andrew3 06:06, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Ran turns at various weights from 25 to 56, and 1 to 84 ML. Once I took into account that I was accidentally under Wallaby, all the stat gains were consistent with a 2x volleyball, dependent solely on the weight on the 3rd turn (weight on first 2 turns is irrelevant). Going to ascend as not damn wallaby to confirm, but I'm reasonably confident it's just a straight 2x for volley.--Salien 10:12, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Does the counter increment on combats that do not use a turn, like BRICKO combats?--CosmoCornelius 16:46, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Weight

So how does the weight affect the effect given by the familiar, is increasing it's weight over 20 pounds reasonable?User:Icon315/sig

  • What do you mean? The effectiveness at various weights is discussed above. Roughly 2x volleyball. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 03:21, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
