"Jingle" actions are when the familiar's action was preceded by the "bells jingle merrily" message that round. Theory: The jingle message indicates that the familiar is acting due to the buff, and the buff increases action rate by about 33%. The buff has no effect on familiars that try to act every round, such as the saber-toothed lime. --Prestige 14:55, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

  • Any results for familiars that may drop an item at the end of combat, or for the Mr. Store familiar equipment?--Toffile 15:00, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
    • There's no message for end-of-combat familiar activation, nor a message for Mr. Store equipment. I'll be running some numbers on this tomorrow.--Parse 21:43, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

The burning question in my mind is 'how much does this improve the potato?'--Jambosque 11:26, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

The monkey will still display the jingle message after it has acted once, but will not pickpocket again. --Monkey66 19:40, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Potato started at 20 pounds base, had equipment, leash and empathy running constantly. No moon sign. I had Jingle Jangle Jingle but no messages were displayed. It seems that the potato is not boosted by the effect. --Monkey66 21:06, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Spading

A less hair-pulling way to spade this thing would be to count the total actions that the familiar takes without Jingle Jangle Jingle, and then count the total actions with the effect. Do 50 fights at 30 rounds each for 1500 rounds, and see what happens. The spading i've got with starfish and cocoabo types suggest that this skill increases all familiar actions by 25%, for those familiar which it affects. In other words, a starfish normally acts 1/3 of the time, increasing by 25% means 1/3*5/4 = 5/12 = 41.6% actions. I'll probably get around to looking at all kinds of familiars so we can put a list on the main page. Also making sure that my hypothesis of +25% actions is correct across all familiars. (So 50% actions normally would go to 62.5%) --RoyalTonberry 19:26, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Jingle Bells on Familiars
Familiar Type Base Action Rate Rounds Total Actions
with Jingle
Percent Action Rate
with Jingle
Mosquito 20% 4500 1317 29.26%
Cocoabo 33% 1500 645 43%
Killer Bee 33% 1500 635 42.33%
Whirling Maple Leaf 25% 1500 518 34.53%
Clockwork Grapefruit 50% 1500 905 60.33%

I think that Jingle Jangle Jingle increases actions taken by an absolute 10%, rather than +25% relative, based on these numbers, it fits perfectly, and my previous hypothesis of +25% does not fit. --RoyalTonberry 22:38, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

I applied RT's method for a 1-lb potato (with bathysphere; 30 rounds using facsimile dictionary--very nice way of preventing familiar experience gain, btw; at gremlins to guarantee hits), and confirmed the lack of jingling, even at that weight. Also, Potatoes apparently do block at that weight: 46 blocks in 1500 rounds observed!--Jambosque 08:39, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

  • It does affect a Baby Bugged Bugbear. I had one with a bugged bonnet on, making it basically a fairy/potato. Got this message today:

You fire a potato pellet from your potato pistol. It doesn't make a hole perpendicular to anything, but it does hit for 29 (+5) damage. BIFF! KAPOW! BARF! SOCKO! WHAMMO! BIFF! Torvalds's bells jingle merrily Kepkop asks your opponent if he is getting enough oxygen, which is pretty much guaranteed to be "no," because of the choking cloud of spice around his head. Torvalds //ℵ±entangles your opponent with powerful vines, preventing him from attacking you. --13:36, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
