It seems that the item you get is affected by what you were worst at protecting. I got the Young Man's Crew Sequester twice and both days I was worst at protecting my crew. --OldJanitor 11:06, 4 January 2013 (CET)
It's actually crew remaining. 0-10 crew = sequester, 10-20 crew = cargo, 20-30 crew = outfit, 30+ crew = ornamental sextant.

I don't recall my exact crew number, but I had more than 30 crew remaining at the 9th log and somehow ended up with a cargo load. I did not have the hydras active, and was loaded with protections, enough combat initiative that half the time I got the jump and was able to kill first turn.
