Talk:Kiss of the Black Fairy
Effect ID
I don't know how to add them to this page so that they link properly, but the effectid is "280" and the descid is "8348ca470188c975bcb78c67a58c39ab" --AtroPhied 12:28, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
Does not alter MP cost of skills
I tested this out when I first sawthe effect listed. When I tested it with 'Seal-clubbing Frenzy' out of combat, it still cost its normal 1MP. And Thrust-Smack still took 3MP. Neither skill's MP cost was affected in any way! Are you sure that this thing adds 3 to the cost? Qaianna 02:09, 14 July 2007 (CDT)
Alter Monster Level?
I'm pretty sure that this increases ML, since I had no post-NS13 buffs or post-NS13 equipment, went in battle, and the hp was like 50 higher. -Goffrie 20:30, 16 July 2007 (CDT)
I tested the effect in The Treasury, roughly 10 rounds against each Guards and Counters each with and without the effect (~40 total turns of combat). I assessed HP with the Detective Skull and Toy Space Helmet. I did not see any measurable effect on monster HP, damage I did to the monster, meat gain, or stat gain, suggesting no effect on monster level. However, it may be a percentage increase rather than an absolute gain, in which case low-level monsters would be less likely to show an effect. I will continue testing.--Mis2027 12:13, 23 July 2007 (CDT)
Similar data obtained in The Junkyard (Post-War) showing no Monster Level effect, or at least one so small that it's irrelevant.--Mis2027 13:47, 23 July 2007 (CDT)
I've noticed a decrease in combat initiative, though that could be a side-effect of increased monster level.--Hand-E-Food 19:14, 4 September 2007 (CDT)
Is "Evil" equivalent to Spooky?
This effect does NOT increase melee damage, does NOT cause additional spooky damage, does NOT increase spooky resistance, and does NOT convert any damage to spooky.--Mis2027 14:01, 23 July 2007 (CDT)
== Perhaps it increases the effectiveness of Spooky spells.--Knobula 12:05, 24 July 2007 (CDT)
== Just tested it out for about 30 turns with Spectral Snapper on The Battlefield (War Hippy Fatigues), and it does not seem to increase Spooky spell damage.--Knobula 12:45, 24 July 2007 (CDT)
- Spec Snapper isn't a spell. Wouldn't be effected by +spell damage. - JohnDoe244 10:58, 28 July 2007 (CDT)
[Frank Warshaw] [Lung Fung in game]I adventured at the mysterious Island(during Wartime) was doing +18 damage spooky without kiss of the black fairy. With Kiss of the black fairy i was doing +56 damage. So yeah this increases Spooky Damage
As of today, September 17, I can confirm that the above post is correct...although, I am 100% certain that prior to today, there was no spooky damage, so either it wasn't doing anything, or it was doing non-elemental damage (although I hadn't seen evidence for that, either). Formula is Drunkenness x 2 in spooky damage.--Mis2027 21:47, 17 September 2007 (CDT)
Speculations
Unlikely:
- tied to the moons? (I did some testing on Jarlsuary 1 when the moons were dark and still didn't see much)
- item drop (preliminary evidence does not support this)
- I couldn't get a snakehead charrrm while under this effect. No quest items perhaps? Finalliberator 05:20, 3 September 2007 (CDT)
- I got a Spanish Fly Trap and 5 Spanish Flies while the effect was active...it's more likely that you either haven't unlocked the Snakehead charrrm drop or that you already have two of them (either alone or in the form of a Talisman o' Namsilat)--Mis2027 19:57, 4 September 2007 (CDT)
- I couldn't get a demon name (only tried the Spooky Forest) while having the effect...-- gizpotato 10:44, 5 September 2007 (PST)
- I just got a demon name at the Beach with the effect active - demon names are estimated at 1% frequency as of right now, so it takes 300 turns just to have an estimated 95% chance of seeing one, so this was probably just RNG flukiness at work--Mis2027 16:20, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
- combat encounter frequency (preliminary evidence does not support this)
- some effect on the Imp (preliminary evidence does not support this)
- Has no effect on demon summoning. -- gizpotato
- Has no effect on chat --Gizpotato 22:04, 10 September 2007 (CDT)
Possible:
- some link to the Grue and it's ability to do damage?
- special effect in The Spooky Forest?
- special effect in The Worm Wood? (suggested by the acquisition message)
--Mis2027 11:06, 24 July 2007 (CDT)
- Spirit of the wormwood is the stench flavor for pastamancers, also stench references in the acquisition message - maybe it's similar to Easily Embarrassed--MoreCurious 05:59, 26 August 2007 (CDT)
- Uhmm, spirit of wormwood is the spooky one. --Wonka Loof 01:38, 2 September 2007 (CDT)
- I haven't seen any effect in the Worm Wood yet, but still testing. -- gizpotato 10:52, 5 September 2007 (PST)
- special effect in The Spooky Gravy Barrow?--Dunsel 11:59, 30 July 2007 (CDT)
- On reading the description again (again, again, again...), I got to thinking about the word "fortified". To me, that suggests it gives an effect that boosts something. Stats, HP, MP, damage, whatever. Or maybe it's like Milk of Magnesia - giving extra output when items are consumed/used. Thoughts?--Gizpotato 17:07, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
"GNAA First Post" ?
On looking at the source code for the description pop-up, there's the text: "GNAA First Post!" I "used" several other effect-giving things, and none of them had this sort of comment on their description pop-ups. Any ideas? --Gizpotato 13:06, 9 September 2007 (CDT) NOTE: I went poking around the GNAA website for clues; do NOT do this! Computer crash-inducing pages and disgusting pictures abound there.--Gizpotato 16:59, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
- GNAA is a group on the internet; their premise would connect them to "black fairies" rather well, but I'm not sure I even want to know how that fits into KoL. If anyone wants to explore further, I'm sure a Google search for GNAA will reveal their identity.
- Well, that's certainly... interesting. Anyway, I did a bit of research, and it turns out that this is a now-defunct group, and one of the requirements to get in was to have a first post on a message board, preferably slashdot. Hence, "GNAA first post!". From this, and some other stuff on this page, I'm wondering:
- Does this have some effect at the The Gnomish Gnomads' Camp?
- As Dunsel asked above, does it have an effect at the The Spooky Gravy Barrow?
- I'd try, but I don't have access to either place.--Gizpotato 22:04, 10 September 2007 (CDT)
- I have access to both Camp and Barrow on various characters, so I'll try to take a look, but obviously welcome anyone else to do so, too. I'd also add the following to the list of things worth considering:
- a relation to using Duct tape? (their "Ask Slashdot" template referenced it)
- some effect in The Black Forest?
- saw no effect in The Black Forest, The Spooky Gravy Barrow, Thugnderdome, or McMillicancuddy's Farm, nor using "other" numbers of pieces of Duct tape up to 11 (so far)--Mis2027 13:15, 12 September 2007 (CDT)
- maybe it has to do with Trolls, as GNAA was a trolling organization? I battled 2 flaming trolls and nothing special happened, but there are other trolls in the game.--Mis2027 13:27, 12 September 2007 (CDT)
- I equipped a Tiny Plastic Ancient Yuletide Troll; no effects so far. --Gizpotato 23:32, 12 September 2007 (CDT)
- I searched the regular KoL forum, and found this J & S radio show from August of 2006 which mentions GNAA:
- They mentioned Blood of the Wereseal - maybe the effect is tied to the Moons, or maybe it automatically confers the effect of all-dark moons on things like Grue and Temporary Lycanthropy.--Mis2027 07:28, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
- Bor 6 - 7 moon units, saw no effect of KotBF on Grue (it didn't attack) nor on Temporary Lycanthropy (still 10 turns, 63% Muscle bonus)--Mis2027 08:27, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
Sudden turn of events
On September 17, this effect suddenly started causing spooky damage...perhaps they fixed more than the IotM today?--Mis2027 21:52, 17 September 2007 (CDT)
Website Edit
I edited out the website from the notes, because the site now goes to Goatse. I don't think that's appropriate for the wiki. ~Erich t/c 16:24, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
