Talk:Knob Goblin King
The quest is given at level 5, but I had to wait until level 8 before I could complete this quest (stats: 65/71/65). It was an annoying couple of weeks pilfering for perfume, trying, getting smacked down, and leveling up to try again. Would it be too spoiler-tastic to mention suggested level/stats for defeating monsters/quests?

Monster pages tend to not include recommended stats.
But maybe a warning? superknijn
Also, the oddjob reference is probably not there as there is another oddjob reference (I forget where) and hat-throwing =/= oddjob.

The part about needing the Mind Control device for the Crown drop may need to be changed. I'm going through this game for the first time, don't have any mind control device, and I got the Crown. I took a screenshot just in case confirmation is needed. Oh and definitely agree with Mozai, I'm lvl 7 and needed to buy a kickback cookbook to take him down. Mecnor 15:30, 7 September 2006 (CDT)
- I'll clarify that--MrCyborg 10:45, 18 November 2006 (CST)
- According to KoLmafia and some other spoiler sites, his monster level is 55, so wouldn't that be a gain of 11 substats, not 7 substats as the page has now? --Dalgar 15:59, 3 January 2007 (CST)
I found out that it was more effective to use a ranged weapon, once I started playing accordion I was able to defeat him with the help of a Stab Bat. I'm level 6 and the bat is level 9, luckily it didn't attack me. ;) --Redhat 01:46, 12 February 2007 (CST)
- I forgot to say that I also had a high moxie due to Sneaky Pete's breath spray (Daily Dungeoning with a Shiny ring) and high HP from a Big red clown nose and Walrus-tusk earring. --Redhat 02:16, 12 February 2007 (CST)
- Since ranged weapons use your moxie to hit (as opposed to your muscle), they are generally easier to attack with if your moxie is higher than your muscle. This is especially the case for Moxie Classes (Disco Bandits and Thieves). That's just a general strategy. (The downside is that ranged weapons tend to have lower Power and gain only half as much a damage bonus from your stats as melee weapons, if memory serves.) If you weren't aware of this, you may want to read the Game Mechanics pages. --Nifty Nobu 07:57, 12 February 2007 (CST)
NS13 boost
He definitely got some sort of boost, as I just defeated him and was given 72 substats. I'm at level 10 and had forgotten to do the quest so I went back and off'd him and was surprised at the stat gain. I'm running with a 35 pound CPM and an annoying pitchfork, so that should equate to about 9.75 (at least it used to) additional stat points, but does not explain the other 50+ that I was not expecting. --J12601 13:50, 26 June 2007 (CDT)
30 pound volleyball, Muscle Stat Day
You work up a Lunging Thrust-Smack.
You viciously bludgeon him, dealing 99 (+16) (+3) damage. KAPOW! BOOF! SOCKO! BIFF! KAPOW! WHACK! BAM! BOOF! WHAMMO! BIFF!
You win the fight!
You acquire an item: dense meat stack You acquire an item: dense meat stack You acquire an item: Crown of the Goblin King
Will smiles approvingly.
You gain 50 Strengthliness. You gain 24 Magicalness. You gain 10 Chutzpah.
He DEFINITELY got a boost.
When I defeated him, I had a buffed main stat right around 60. I obtained about the same amount of stats from him. After beating the clown lord, nearly the same thing happened. I gained approximately the same amount of stats as I had muscle. I know this isn't spading at all, but someone else might be able to take that information and run with it. Torg smiles approvingly. You gain 32 Strengthliness. You gain 27 Enchantedness. You gain 19 Sarcasm. Myst day, 30 lb vb. My mucle was 75, so it being based on main stat seems unlikely, I've noticed that all bosses are giving a lot more substats, now. Im going to go ahead and change his substat gain to ~50, and add a tag. (Even though im getting 73 points (-vb), 50 is a nice even number for an estimate)--Currman 12:28, 2 July 2007 (CDT)

Falling down drunk?
Today my multi had accidentally over drunk, and was still able to fight the goblin king. I don't know if this was always the case, or is new with the recent changes, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere else. --Sporky McForkinspoon 16:28, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
- This happened to a clannie of mine today as well. I say confirmed, but will verify independently the next chance I get.--Hastifer 22:15, 19 April 2012 (CEST)
