Talk:Meat from Monsters
What about familiars that affect the meat drop rates? Coffee pixie, Leprechaun, Cheshire bat, etc... And also the Tam O' Shanter... --jin 15:42, 3 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
You're right - I need to add the familiars & their equipment. I've been putting off adding familiars to these tables for a couple of reasons:
- I need to research exactly what the gains are.
- I've been struggling as to the best way to present the information.
- Should they be shown as X gain from a 20 pound familiar? The problem with this approach is that it's not overly helpful - most people don't have all their familiars at 20 pounds, especially if they are doing ascension.
- Shown as X gain per pound of familiar? The problem with this approach is that not all familiars scale linearly as they gain weight. Also, as with the above method, it's hard to clearly see at a glance just how much gain there is with various weight familiars.
- Show X gain at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 pounds? This is the most helpful approach, but it's a little messy.
I'm inclined toward the third approach, but I'd appreciate some feedback.--Gymnosophist 18:53, 3 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- Which of the familiars does not scale linearly? --Snickles 19:29, 3 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- Specifically, the Howling Balloon Monkey. Antidotally, the Angry Goat and perhaps others. I know that neither of these get meat from monsters, but I'm trying to implement a general methadology.--Gymnosophist 19:42, 3 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- Can you create a second table on the page that would show the familiars and gains?
Angry Goat | Golfball Familiar | CraZY zEBRA | |
---|---|---|---|
1 | +5 meat | +274 meat | -145 meat |
5 | +6 meat | +12312 meat | -12312 meat |
10 | |||
15 | |||
20 | |||
25 |
I have no clue what the numbers would look like, but it'd get the info across easily, I think. --jin 20:02, 3 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- I like it. I'll start work on a separate familiar table below the main table. --Gymnosophist 20:54, 3 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- OK, I've got the new table up. The explanatory text is maybe a little verbose, but what do y'all think of it? :) --Gymnosophist 02:31, 4 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- Would have to be a percent, as no familiar has a straight meat drop. Chesire, Coffee, and Leprechaun are 5% per level. The crimbo elf is presumably less, although I don't know of anyone that has hard data. --Snickles 20:31, 3 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- Yeah, lots of numbers will be hard to come by, not just the Crimbo Elf, but results for, say, the Ghost Pickle on a Stick are sketchy at best. Ideally, I'd like to show stuff like average damage and how often it hits. I'm not even sure how the monster level plays into things. And what does that caustic juice do? Researching familiar results could easily be a big research project similar to Ohayou's food/booze project. --Gymnosophist 20:54, 3 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- Screech. My mind doesn't read that wiki table code well. The Tam is a 50% increase (10 levels * 5% per level). I'll let someone else add it to the table. --Snickles 20:33, 3 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- These tables are (mostly) autogenerated, which is why the funky pipe table format is used. There was no way I was going to manually generate all these tables! Here's the link --Gymnosophist 20:54, 3 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- Well dang... That's pretty nifty. Thanks for the link. --Snickles 20:58, 3 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
Does anyone have evidence that the Hand Turkey is as powerful as a Leprechaun? Past comments in the KoL Discussion forum have indicated that combination FOTM are not as powerful as familiars with only a single ability. --Snickles 18:56, 4 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- I really don't know for sure - I was just going by general comments. --Gymnosophist 19:26, 4 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- That's cool, since I don't know either. Perhaps we should set up a VKoL donation service so that we editors can get ahold of such things for "research." --Snickles 19:44, 4 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- That would be extremely cool. Detailed info like this would be the holy grail of KOL spoilerism. What would it take to start something like this, I wonder? --Gymnosophist 19:56, 4 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

I'm pretty sure Meat Vortexes give about 50% of the monster's base meat drop when used. I remember buying a lot of 150-priced Vortexes before the Meat drop at the Peak was nerfed, and being annoyed that after using every single one of them I had not made any profit on the Vortexes. Zaku
- evil flaming eyeball pendant needs to be added to the table.--Dalgar 14:57, 5 February 2007 (CST)
Omphaloskepsis doesn't guarantee 20%+ on meat drops - it only happens one in four times or so. So it shouldn't say "always". ----Dandandandan 08:28, 24 March 2008 (CDT)
- Then... edit the page so it's correct? --Bagatelle 08:49, 24 March 2008 (CDT)
Cocoabo Stats
Samples: 103
No action: 38 (62.1%)
Action: 25 (37.9%)
Amount of meat dropped: Y=4.09+8.23
Damage done: Y=1X+1.7
HP/MP gain: Y=0.61X+8.98
Obviously, with only 103 runs, it is difficult to get valid information. It's a start, anyway. --Snickles 19:44, 4 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

I'm going to go ahead and update the section on familiar weight...the maximum is higher now with the discovery of the Plexiglass Pith Helmet. --Birdofprey161 23:28, 15 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
maybe it is an idea to post the base drop on the peak. 200 meat. since drops dont multiply, this makes it easy to calculate the new % on items. also note that there is a variance in drops, but over 1000 turns it should streigthen out.--Shlaan 02:15, 13 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)
Your Cupcake Senses Are Tingling needs to be added to the table...I can try my hand at table-cahnging, but I don't want screw it all to hell...--Animus 22:56, 20 June 2006 (CDT)
Sticky Fingers needs to be added, when there will be more % datas --Kaiou 08:32, 30 August 2006 (CDT)
Ant-icipation
Looks like the five new "ant" items (ant sickle, ant hoe, ant pitchfork, ant pick, and ant rake) need to be added here, especially since all five pages refer here, but none of them seem to give exact percentages for the items. Time to get one to drop, I think.. :)
New Spading work
- I've finished going over all the +meat items, verifying and correcting the +meat bonuses of every item in the chart. My method was simple - when boosted, meat will not drop in a continuous range. This is because the original monster dropped a continuous range of meat, but the meat bonus was applied after this value had been chosen. By comparing the discontinuous meat drops to the meat drops possible due to various +meat enchantments, I was able to find the exact +meat bonuses of any percent bonus quickly and accurately. All items should have the correct enchantments at this time.--QuantumNightmare 18:40, 26 July 2007 (CDT)
Hobo power stuff
Since Hobo Power can influence +Meat, I've added the hobo power items to the Special category. They may need to be moved. --Demarken 12:53, 19 June 2008 (CDT)
Idea: List of monsters with the highest meat drop
Maybe this could be of interest to those who read this page...what about mentioning monsters which have an unusually high meat drop, such as cubist bulls, rotund ducks and beefy bodyguard bats? --Edir 18:17, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- I started one recently. It's the sort of thing the wiki does poorly since it requires manual updates with every new monster and with new information about old monsters. Of the top 70 monsters, most are hard to encounter (Knott Slanding, Knob Goblin Embezzler, Knob Goblin Elite Guard Captain, and war heros), can be encountered limited numbers of times (ducks, Huge ghuol, Conjoined zmombie, Booty crab and Beefy bodyguard bats) or have underwater penalties (Killer clownfish, Giant squid, Fisherfish, Unholy diver, etc). That leaves these as good choices for meat farming (ordered by high end of meat drop):
- Cubist bull (181-280)
- Knott Yeti (160-262)
- Wealthy pirate (160-240)
- Sabre-toothed ferret (160-240)
- Rock scorpion (165-237)
- Swarm of scarab beatles (142-209)
- Pygmy headhunter (143-207)
- Flock of Stab-bats (139-181)
- Raver Giant (120-180)
- Procrastination Giant (120-180)
- Possibility Giant (120-180)
- Goth Giant (120-180
- Giant giant giant centipede (120-180)
- Furry Giant (120-180)
- Black panther (120-180)
- Alphabet Giant (120-180)
- Everything below there is under 180 for the top drop. All numbers taken from the wiki about a week ago. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 00:50, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Crown of Thrones
I think the Crown of Thrones needs to be added to the table, with a note "With Leprechaun-type familiar" or something similar. --Eitheladar 11:00, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
