Talk:Negative Status Attacks
Ancient medicinal herbs?
I noticed a distinct lacks of these herbs being mentioned here, when I was looking for something better than the listed accessories. I remembered having problems getting cursed by the shamans in the hidden city during my last HCO run and remembered them just now. I just tested them against the snojo snowman and noticed it blocks nearly all it's debuffs (-200% stats, -100 stats as well as the halved HP and MP debuff), except the one that limits stats to 200. I'm not quite sure how to add this information to the entry.
Would something like this, minus the brackets, be acceptable? -> The ancient medicinal herbs block (with some exceptions, because those effects probably cound as neutral?) all negative status effects. --Nanimonai (talk) 17:19, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
Teleportitis?
I think it would have to count as a Negative Status Attack; after all, What's that Smell is included, which is a positive buff, and teleportitis can easily send you into danger if the zone is too high, or say, it sends you to the sea to accidentally fight a trophyfish. - On the hot tub page there is a note citing Jick that it removes all "negative status effects". So any effect from an attack that the tub doesn't remove, isn't a negative status effect. I'm not sure about teleportitis, but Fearless doesn't look like one to me. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 21:02, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- The problem with that theory is...well look at the enchantment of Fearless - -10ML. It sucks to speed leaders or simply stat gain. It's an ambivalent one, to say the least. Argus 06:25, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- The drop in monster level ends up hurting your stat gains, but it doesn't reduce your power. I'm guessing the NS would clear Fearless off of you if you battled her with it. As noted on the effect page it can be useful for fighting bosses. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 17:36, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- Does the Giant Pinky Ring prevent Teleportitis? Should this really be negative status effect, or any effect that a monster can confer upon you during combat? I'd vote the later. --Darkwolf 15:47, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Status Attacks
I think that we should instead move this page to another page called "Status Attacks" and then split the page into two sections denoting "Negative" and "Positive". Mad at Science, for example is probably a positive effect, despite being on this page. --CG1:t,c,e 22:39, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- That would probably work. Maybe 3 sections would be better? "Positive, Negative, In-between"? Or maybe Balanced for the third one, or something else that sounds good. I wouldn't quite go with Neutral, since they're not really. The third category would contain most effects from special BM adventures and teleportitis, and anything else that people might "think" is a negative status effect, but is not treated as such in-game (tub, all-purpose cleaner). --Flargen 22:45, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- The BM effects are just from adventures, not enemy interactions. Though, I have been meaning to go through and figure out all the effects that the game considers "negative"... But this isn't exactly the place for me to start that project. --TechSmurf 22:55, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I think I'd rather see a Negative/Positive/Other Status Effects breakdown. Or would like to see it, also. I suppose a page that deals specifically with monster-inflicted effects is interesting enough to be retained. Just becomes a pain to update if we do it without a Category. --Flargen 03:04, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- Until more effects are added, which are indeed a pain to find because of the current lack of a category, most of these are negative. There are maybe only two definitively positive effects: Mad at Science and What's That Smell. Teleportitis and Fearless go both ways, so until more effects are added to the table, it's pretty safe to say that the two good effects out of the thirty odd in the table don't deserve their own category. Perhaps special mention in a notes section, but no more. Argus 15:54, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- I separated out the Mad at Science, Fearless, and What's That Smell? effects, specifically labelling them as positive. Although it's arguable that the Fearless is a negative, I think the fact that most negative status attack curers don't remove it suggests that it's intended as a positive. Teleportitis can only obtained from a monster after discovering the dungeon, so I think it should count as a negative effect. A couple of questions:
- should the Slime effect be included?
- should this page also mention which cures work (antidote, tongue of walrus, disco power nap)--Foggy 14:22, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
