Talk:Nemesis Cave

From A KoL Wiki

I'm a sauceror, fought a pernicious puddle of pesto, and got a torn paper strip and a creased paper strip. --Jimfromtx 04:33, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

  • Also a slithering hollandaise glob, got a rumpled paper strip and a nauseating reagent from it --Jimfromtx 04:33, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
    • It seems each is class specific. I'm a DB, fighting psychedelic fur and talking heads. --Laparapa 04:51, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

I found eight paper strips (creased, crinkled, crumpled, folded, ragged, ripped, rumpled and torn). The paper strips have differently torn edges and can be connected like a puzzle. A first strip seems to be missing. (I'm a seal clubber and got the strips from seal larvae and seal spawn.)--Don Enrico 06:01, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

For interested turtle tamers, you can get Turtle Wax with Eau de Tortue in this area.--Spiny Twizzler 09:15, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

  • I suggest this page be re-organized with major headings "Combat Adventures (Seal Clubber)" . . . "Combat Adventures (Pastamancer)" rather than having that info be only a little bullet at the bottom of each possible adventure.

the torn/rumpled etc strip

I thought that there was one missing as well but realised that, like the tickets you (used to) get at the supermarket meat counters, they dont always start, nor end up perfect, so the password you're looking for is combined from all that joins up, including the two straight edges and starts and end up with the two that dont join.

Arion

  • Just to clarify: the straight edges are not the ends of the strip, they fit together. There should be two strips with no match, and these are the end pieces. --Spud603 04:43, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
    • Huh. That was needlessly difficult. -Captain Video 06:23, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Conditional Drops

Looks like every item here is a conditional drop. The scraps form a mutually exclusive drop group (you can get at most one per combat), and you can only get each one once per ascension. The non-scrap drops are also conditional, as witnessed by my failure to get anything from a major yellow ray used against a hollandaise glob. I've gotten 15 reagents from the hollandaise so far, and haven't seen any more in awhile. --Flargen 17:54, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

I wouldn't be so sure. I got a evil vihuela after disintegrating one of the mariachis.--Toffile 18:49, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
You still have your normal shot at getting conditional drops after a yellow ray. The yellow ray guarantees all non-conditionals. So any failed drop says they're not a standard item drop. --Flargen 19:04, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
I realize that, but it might be slightly different depending on the classes. All I'm saying is not to write it all off at once. (I won't disagree with the scraps, that's obvious)--Toffile 19:47, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Yellow rayed a psychedelic fur and a talking head; nothing. --Fig bucket 19:49, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Turtle soup seems to have a cap of 15, as well. Haven't gotten another soup after 77 adventures. The first 10 soups dropped really quickly (first 10 tureens, in fact), which is also what happened to me with the reagents. Then it took progressively longer to get the remainder. Maybe one drop rate for the first 10 drops, and then the drop rate declines thereafter, like a absinthe kind of mechanic? Possibly a 30% base rate, then 25% after the 10th soup, then 20% after the 11th, 15% after the 12th, 10% after the 13th, 5% after the 14th, and 0% at the 15th. We'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if this is a per-day sort of thing, or "on character" sort of thing. Putting my soups in my DC and then adventuring another 20 times at the same item drop bonus didn't let me get any more soups, so I don't think it's a "in inventory" thing if it's not a "per day" thing. --Flargen 21:39, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
I think we're dealing with a 15 day limit on the various items. I can confirm on reagents that 15 seemed to be the stall point. A clannie got evil noodles to 14, but decided to do other things rather than try to push to 15 and further. My TT got 15 Turtle soup and doesn't seem to be able to get more. I didn't think about any of this with my AT before burning all my turns. I did use one of those potions, but when I play her turns later after rollover, I can see about that.--Spiny Twizzler 22:57, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Next day, ate all 15 of my turtle soups. And 14 tureens later and still no soup drops. This could be a 15 per ascension limit. >_> --Flargen 22:17, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

I don't know if this is just coincidence, but I seem to be finding that the maximum number of reagents and noodles (on successive ascensions) is either 15 or level-4. Maybe it's just a function of the diminishing drop rate, but it seems I get them relatively quickly as long as I'm below the level-5 cap, and then not at all from then on. Of course, I might just be giving up too quickly... --GroovyJ 10:58, 23 September (PST)

Has the amount changed? I spent 40ish turns after obtaining 13 turtle soups w/o any more drops--Grimdel 06:22, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

  • short answer, possibly. slightly longer answer, the drop rate drops away as you find more, so the last two will be a lot rarer. there is always a probability that you will never find the last one, or at least not for thousands of turns, since that's the way randomness works. forty turns is not many, keep going, a couple more days' turns should establish whether the next one's going to drop. so, considered shortest answer, no. --Evilkolbot 09:34, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Elemental Resistance

I'm not sure how to add this in, but neither of the seal clubber creatures have any elemental alignment/resistance.

"You're fighting an infernal seal spawn

You viciously bludgeon it, dealing 270 (+5) (+5) (+5) (+15) (+5) damage. SMACK! WHACK! BIFF! ZOT! BARF! BONK! SPLAT! SMACK! POW! POW!" (have Snarl of the Timberwolf effect)

"You're fighting an infernal seal larva

You deliver a Pesci-esque blow to the back of its head. 270 (+5) (+5) (+5) (+15) (+5) points' worth of blood oozes out of its ears. ZOT! KERBLAM! KERBLAM! BIFF! POW! SOCKO! WHAM! ZAP! KAPOW! WHAMMO!" (Same effect)

I'm bad at these wiki things, but I wanted to help because I find this place helpful.--Snowdove

Weird. I'm getting the same thing, but its going to break our templates, since there should be 2 elemental weaknesses, not just 1.--Toffile 18:53, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
I don't see the problem. He's saying there is no weakness, which is clearly supported by his data (weak creatures don't take odd numbers in damage, unless they're frosty/zombo). --Flargen 19:06, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Ah. I must've had something equipped that was dealing bonus spooky damage in addition to the dagger. My mistake.--Toffile 19:45, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

More on paper strip drop rates:

I just got 8 paper strips to drop in 8 combats (as a Pastamancer, though that shouldn't be important) with +127.5% items. Unfortunately, I haven't noted how much +items I had on previous runs through the Chamber, but I believe it was usually much less (due to 100% familiar runs with non-fairies). On those previous runs (69th with slimeling...if I recall correctly it took only 9 or 10 encounters that run, 71st-72nd, and 74th-78th) I definitely recall much spottier strip drops. As far as useful information goes, I'm concluding that paper strips probably are influenced by item bonuses...--Jambosque 00:01, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

8/8 at +243.69%... I'll try to remember to run less next time, so I get actual useful information. --Jambosque 02:46, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

8/19 at +55.0%--Jambosque 06:54, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

8/13 at +84.0%, so I suppose I should start testing for a 35% drop rate, and then a 30% drop rate if that fails.--Jambosque 12:21, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

  • Missed at +209.19%. Also got 8/9 at that, so they're not 35%, almost certainly 30% drop rate. --RoyalTonberry 05:46, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Just got around to testing 35% today, and also missed at +189.24%... Thanks, RT!--Jambosque 08:29, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

8/24 at +40%--Jambosque 07:39, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

8/19 at +57%--Jambosque 07:44, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

8/8 at as close to just above +233.3_ as I could manage. Not surprised, thanks to RT...--Jambosque 07:05, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

+132% item drop got 8/8. Had +32 ML, only one data point. Any other info for/against a +ML effect? could be just The RNG messing with me. --MadonKody 01:51, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Oh! If someone really wants to go crazy on spading the drop rate out on a multi or something, I (accidentally, on a previous ascension) discovered that autoselling paper strips before speaking the password will allow them to be re-obtained. (I think I even had 8 strips. It may have been only 7, but I'm almost positive it was all 8.)--Jambosque 15:39, 29 July 2011 (CEST)
