Talk:Octopus gardener
Is there any sign the straw hat drop hinges on having some underwater effect active, or does it just have an atrocious drop rate? The seed packet and the spade definitely don't require any extra effects, but the brinier deepests have items that don't seem to drop at all without having fishbreath active, and which are themselves consumables(obviously, The Sea isn't done yet, so it's also possible those items might be intended for future areas.) Is there anyone who got a hat who also had no extra underwater buffs(aside from fishy)?--Noskilz 22:54, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Probably low drop rate. Got just 2 in a few hundred adventures (albeit usually sniffing flytraps). Abundant +item%, but nothing fish-related other than fishy. --Fig bucket 23:02, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Funny. I've gotten three of them (I think) but _I_ haven't managed to get the spade yet. Not even by making a spooky putty copy so that I could fight a few of them topside without the SCUBA gear on.--Harlock the Bard 00:17, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Now, I don't know why it says there is no meat drop; I've been getting meat every time from the gardeners. Taking +meat into effect, it seems to be about 37-40 per.--Pastian 16:26, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- Interesting thing is, I've taken several characters in there and gotten no meat on a consistent basis. And there are reports of people getting negative meat drops. So...the thing's screwy is all I can say right now. --Flargen 16:43, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure it has a higher base meat drop than we think, but something is being subtracted. I get ~10 meat with Gnefarious Pickpocketing as my only drop bonus, but my sister has Nimble Fingers and she gets ~30. The people who were getting negative meat probably had negative meat drop bonus. I'll have to spade this tomorrow. --Ted the Red 01:00, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

The only integer percent that explains the spade drop rate is 2%. The higher item drop bonuses indicate the seeds drop more than 29% of the time, and less than 31% of the time. --Flargen 07:18, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Added data obtained while determining the sea radish drop rate. Hat and spade are now both uniquely (up to integers) explained by a 2% drop rate, and the radish is uniquely explained by a 3% drop rate. --Flargen 04:57, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
While getting the drop rate for the sea lace, I noticed I was observing an unexpectedly large drop rate on the radishes (and also that my spade and hat numbers weren't as accurate as I desire these days). So I collected a whole new batch of data, and it in particular establishes that the radish is a 10% drop rate. Either it got changed since I first spaded it, or I got extremely bad luck the first time around; most likely it was changed.

Drop rates for the other 3 are consistent with previous results (and are even more definitely the values listed on the page if all accounted for). --Flargen (talk) 04:33, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
