For the record, the way it works on Half a Purse (tested with a talking spade, casting Offhand Remarkable, then equipping Half a Purse, then consuming a Flaskfull of Hollow; doing this in other order can give other results):

1. Without Merry Smithsness or other +Smithsness effects it gives +40% Meat: "+5 Smithsness" is doubled to +10, then "+20% Meat from Monsters (+Meat Drops based on Smithsness)" is doubled too, giving +40%.
2. With Merry Smithsness it gives +140% Meat: "+5 Smithsness" is doubled to +10, which gives +35 total Smithsness, then "+70% Meat from Monsters (+Meat Drops based on Smithsness)" is doubled too, giving +140%.
