'Player X's suggestion'

I'd like to point out that it was never my original goal to come up with the optimal Picky skill and familiar setup, but rather to create a basic structure for other users that could be criticized and messed with. In my experience it's always easier to alter something than to find the time and motivation to come up with something from scratch. There hadn't been a single strategic advice during the first three days and what I wrote up was better than no advice at all. I don't think this is some kind of contest so I'd rather see a collective effort than a collection of Player X's suggestions – like on any other strategy page.
Because of my believe that the community benefits the most from a collaborative work, rather than from individual viewpoints, I'm removing my original suggestions again. Feel free to look it up in the history and pick the bits you guys deem useful. However, this is my personal decision and I'm not forcing it on Greycat or anyone other that might be interested in listing his or her suggestions separated from those of other editors. --Yatsufusa (talk) 20:29, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

I wasn't trying to be confrontational. Your suggestions were extremely different from mine, and may be better suited to a player who has absolutely no Items of the Month, no Olfaction, etc. My strategy relies on having most IOTMs and every skill available to choose pick from. For all I know, there may be some benefit to offering both strategies. --Greycat (talk) 17:57, 21 November 2014 (UTC)
I never was under the impression you wanted a "contest" either, but I was worried that it could develop to something like that if it would stay split up the way it was. Like stated, my suggestion was not much of a complete artwork (hope that's the right expression) that would have needed conservation but was rather there to be modified in the first place. And because I know some editors aren't that good with wiki-tables...
Maybe I can add another angle to some of the suggestions, but I'm somewhat short on time these days, so it could take a while. I originally thought about listing Olfaction rather than AT songs and somesuch, but decided against it because it is not a widely available as regular class skills. Similar thing with iotm familiars: Many Players might have one or more, but I wouldn't want the strategy to read like they were demanded. Especially since I don't have most of the newer ones and lack first hand experience. A fairy type and a stat-familiar type should basically be everything your average ascender needs, but iotm familiars are always a bit better. --Yatsufusa (talk) 20:40, 21 November 2014 (UTC)
  • I feel a bit odd about player names appearing in the body of the wiki. too personal. a discussion here would be better. and the page itself set out as an evaluation of the relative merits of each choice. like the hc skills page. there are, what, billions of different runs? (that's a lot of leaderboards.) perhaps subpages of this one to set out and critique each player's reasoning. --Evilkolbot (talk) 17:02, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Pick Discussion

I'm still in the early trying out phase of my run and am also trying the new PM for the first time, but I already have some remarks:

  • Elemental Saucesphere: I took Astral Shell over this, because without Tao, DA is worth much more to me. I mainly see the use for elemental resistance for zone access and elemental tests for players who didn't pick the Gelatinous Cubeling as a familiar. I haven't had my ass handed to me yet, but there's might be an angle to Saucesphere I'm missing right now.
  • Leash of Linguini: On a whim I picked Leash for flexibility, because it seemed to offer a more condensed option that having to choose from +item, +meat or +ML AT-songs.
  • The Sonata of Sneakiness: On a somewhat similar note, Sonata of Sneakiness as a second +noncombat song seems a bit excessive to me. On the other hand Type69 as well as the reduced range of skills narrowed my MP-regeneration. Maybe I would have chosen differently if I had more iotm that were allowed in the current Type69.
  • Cannelloni Cocoon: Listing this seems overly careful and while I would still list it, I'd like to move it down next to Pulverize. From my perspective, the VIP key is the most useful and common iotms and therefore the most likely to expect, even on players who didn't donate much.
  • Batter Up!: Without Ire of the Orca it would make almost no sense picking to me, as it only becomes available one level earlier that when you would buy it.
  • Musk of the Moose: It just seems like a rather niche skill when operating with only 11 skills. Carlweather's Cantata of Confrontation looks even less attractive and I'd remove it completely because of the higher costs and the "or" part.
  • +Meat: Depending on the limited number of familiars, I'm not sure if players without a Volleychaun/Spleen familiar will find/make the room for a Leprechaun. In the light of that thought, would The Polka of Plenty or Nimble Fingers be worth mentioning?
  • DB: All other assumptions aside, right now DB (again) seems like the best class choice for a challenge path where you are going to buy a lot of class skills. Should we write something about that or am I just imagining things?

Please be aware that pretty much all of these statements are assumptions and questions. I've never been much of a speedy ascender because my adventures per day tend to exceed my hours awake per day. --Yatsufusa (talk) 11:57, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
