Talk:Picture of a dead guy's girlfriend
Who's dead?
The name of the item, "picture of a dead guy's girlfriend," leads one to believe that the guy is dead, not the girlfriend. But the item description's grammar indicates that the girlfriend is, in fact, the dead one:
This is a picture of some soldier's girlfriend, long dead now.
The "when used" text is no help either, as you "shed a tear for the soldier's girlfriend," which could be because
- The soldier is dead, or
- The girlfriend is dead.
So is it a picture of the girlfriend of a dead guy, or the dead girlfriend of a guy?

- The Cola Wars took place in the distant past, so I imagine they're both dead by now. --Rebug 15:40, 9 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)
Either way, is it terriblly relevant which or if both are dead? The point of the item is that their love will forever be unfufilled if he, the girl, or both are dead, which is what makes it sad (and therefore cause the rainy day miasma) --Rikmach 03:03, 10 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)
Affecting Cola Wars Battles
It seems that having a Picture of a dead guy's girlfriend in your inventory can stop a Cola Warrior from attacking you. This should probably be noted, if it has happened to anyone else.

- Has this actually happened to anyone else? I don't recall it happening to me, but I'll try it during my next ascension. --Gleezus 16:54, 26 January 2007 (CST)
Misc
This is a question I've always worried about, but haven't found a good answer for: Is the item consumed when used? It would make sense narratively for the item to remain, and you could look at it anytime to get depressed (Rainy Soul Miasma, whatever)... but since the item is less-than-common I don't want to lose it when using it for the NC's gates. --Sir Clement the Meek 23:33, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
- It's consumed. The tear soaks into the photograph and dissolves it. For the Gate of Morose Morbidity and Moping however, you should use a thin black candle. --Yatsufusa 16:32, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
