References having other familiars.

I don't think there is a situation where you could ever not have at least one other familiar. You will have had to have killed the NS on your first ascension, meaning 2 tower fams from that alone before you could ever ascend under a muscle sign to get the black and thus golden mushroom. The only time you could have an empty terrarium would be in Bad Moon, but of course you can't get this item under those conditions. So its a null point, there is no normal way you could have this item and have an empty terrarium.
