Talk:Reassembled Blackbird

From A KoL Wiki

If anyone's obtained a blackbird, and then ascended with it (and not finished the Holy MacGuffin quest) and kept the blackbird, please let me know. It would be interesting if there was a way to keep this temporary familiar always. -MarcyRoni 05:36, 25 June 2007 (CDT) Could someone with a Comma Chameleon feed it this familiar's equipment, then burn it in the adventure? Would that enable the keeping of the bird, at the expense of the Comma? --DrKirre 05:56, 25 June 2007 (CDT)

Even if it were the case, you'd lose it next ascension; the only way to keep it would be to never ascend afterward, and never finish the quest. ---Sparksol 06:09, 25 June 2007 (CDT)
Idea: Ascend with it like suggested, then when you get to the part where it would be consumed, you can just make a new one if the pieces drop, then do the quest, and use your newly-created hatchling version. Rinse, lather, repeat.--Olaf

---It wouldn't matter. If you ascend, it would still ask for a blackbird the next time the quest is actually required to ascend. And as you know, Jick insists on making the game as ... linear... as possible. As such, even if you kept it through the gash, you would still have to offer it to the map. And it would still disappear. After all, you can't put a familiar in your terrarium if you have the same one already in there, eh? *get what i'm saying?*--Argus 00:02, 26 June 2007 (CDT)

Oookay.... Ascended - still have the bird ! Fubushi 11:51, 25 June 2007 (CDT)

Good job. Now I'd say don't use the map until you've built a new bird. When you get there, of course.--Olaf 12:01, 25 June 2007 (CDT)
Heh - I'm at that point, and triggered the NS quest before NS13 rolled out, so I could have done the same if you hadn't. I'm thinking the game won't drop the parts if you've already got the bird (whether you have it with you or only in your terrarium), but it's definitely worth trying to see for sure... Hossenfeffer 12:50, 25 June 2007 (CDT)
Awesome! Nice job; I was thinking the familiar would be marked quest and go away - guess not (or guess not yet). One of my multis has this option (not my main, grr, chose to do the MacGuffin quest), and I'm thinking about just ascending now for the hell of it, with the bird. Whatever the results, I'm 99.9% sure that the 500k meat parrot familiar has the same effect as the blackbird. -MarcyRoni 18:32, 25 June 2007 (CDT)

Very nice! But if you can ascend and get the parts again, then can't you make one & then gather more parts? Unless they're one time only. Nagyss 00:26, 26 June 2007 (CDT) --Arledge 08:02, 27 June 2007 (CDT) The question is more like: Will the parts drop even if you have the bird (in terrarium or as familiar) or not. If they do you should be able to keep the bird (just use it for the map and then build a new one with the previously gathered parts). What I don't think will work is to gather the parts after using the map. Someone now just has to try it out...

---i would highly doubt quest items drop more than once. usually one per ascencion. and yes, you could build another one, if only temporarily. The parts should still drop if you have a black bird in inventory, because jick is trying to be linear. and as a familiar (in inventory) it's a quest item. and you have to gather parts before the map. xD Although that would be an interestig idea, feeding the comma chameleon the bust and seeing what happens...--Argus 19:48, 27 June 2007 (CDT)

  • I can't really imagine anyone risking the loss of a Comma Chameleon that way -- what if using it the bust and then reading the map actually works? I'm much more interested in finding out whether the broken wings and sunken eyes drop if you already have a Reassembled Blackbird in your terrarium from a previous ascension. Anyone? --Baltar 12:30, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

Just to see what would happen, I tried giving my Comma Chameleon a tiny bust of Pallas. She won't take it. I think we have our first familiar the Comma won't emulate. --Sparksol 23:24, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

  • According to Talk:Tiny bust of Pallas the Comma Chameleon now can eat the equipment. Maybe this was fixed when they corrected the "equip on any familiar" issue? --rholliday 00:29, 19 August 2007 (CDT)

Say, what happens to the familiar's equipment when it vanishes after you use the map? That would be a really unpleasant way to lose a plastic pumpkin bucket or something like that. --Baltar 01:44, 29 June 2007 (CDT)

I could probably check to see if you could keep re-getting the Blackbird, but is it even worth the trouble? Does the familiar even do anything? --Sevault 14:44, 29 June 2007 (CDT)

  • If nothing else, it makes it that much easier to get familiar-weight trophies. Yes, please check! We know that the broken wings and sunken eyes drop only once per ascension, but I would really like to know whether they will drop even once if you already have a Reassembled Blackbird already in your terrarium. --Baltar 15:39, 29 June 2007 (CDT)
    • Jick said on the latest radio show that he was pretty sure it was possible to keep re-obtaining the blackbird. So, is this case closed? --Sevault 20:25, 29 June 2007 (CDT)

I did the trick to keep the blackbird from my previous ascension--already freed the king in prep for NS13, assembled the parts but didn't finish the quest. I just did around 60 turns in the Black Forest, 20 of which were even with a blue snowcone. My character has all the permanent item drop skills as well. I did not see a single set of broken wings or sunken eyes during that entire time. Considering how easy they have been to get with other characters, my evidence suggests that they will not drop again if you already have the familiar in the terrarium, so no way to keep the familiar forever. --Greg1104 22:36, 30 June 2007 (CDT)

  • I have done a good 40-50 and got no parts either. Do the parts drop before you try to use the map and it tells you that you can't figure it out? --Plater 08:49, 14 July 2007 (CDT)
  • Thanks for the research, Greg, you saved me from having to do it =)

And to answer the previous question, no, familiar equipment is not used up when the black market map is used. --Sevault 22:26, 1 July 2007 (CDT)

Blackbird trophy possibility

Has anyone tried leveling the bird all the way up to 20 or using it for a significant number of adventures to see if there are any trophies associated with (mis)using it? --Dayv 13:52, 4 July 2007 (CDT)

I got mine to level 20 (combination of painfully pathetic arena fighting and adventuring) and no trophy. --Thunderclees 02:48, 7 July 2007 (CDT)

FYI: 50 pound blackbird in Hardcore, 20 natural + item and buffs, no trophy. --Eugene 10:12, 13 July 2007 (CDT)

I have over 1000 combat adventures logged with the blackbird this ascension, no trophy. There might be something for having it as your favorite familiar with some minimum percentage.--GoldS 15:24, 2 December 2007 (CST)

"Flight stick, the 35-pound Reassembled Blackbird (4,952 experience, 35,090 kills)" No trophy. Now that the familiar name is kept across ascensions, I'm wondering if the kill count, too is kept? Anyone know? --Club (#66669) (Talk) 14:58, 4 February 2008 (CST)

Name may be remembered, but kills and experience are both reset to zero. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 17:35, 13 May 2008 (CDT)

Actually, just experience is reset to zero. I'm in bad moon, doing a 100% mosquito run, and just put a lime in my terrarium. 0 xp, 512 kills. Not sure if this is different for the blackbird, though. If it is, please just ignore this. -- --Depravity 11:29, 9 July 2008 (CDT)

Does the Blackbird have any messages?

  • Depravity: BM may be special. I've reaquired my blackbird twice now, and both times the kill count was zero again. It is something you tend to notice after bringing a useless familiar up to 57k kills. The blackbird does nothing and has no messages. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 12:25, 9 July 2008 (CDT)
